Full story: TwinCities.com

An Olmsted County jury took only an hour and a half Wednesday to decide that Mayo Clinic was not negligent in its care of a 52-year-old Illinois man who died in 2003, a month after surgery in Rochester.

"Large doses of steroids that a doctor in Illinois prescribed for Nolan days after he left Rochester caused deterioration " So a month after he leaves, his Illionis doctor prescribes meds and he dies. Sue the Mayo... that's the answer. I am very sorry that there was a loss of life, but these law suits where people believe there's a buck to be made bothers me. If anyone needed to be sued, it was the doctor from Illinois.

“Relax. It's just the internet.”

There's a very good chance that the doctor in Illinois was sued as well.

Having been in a similar situation myself (as this family), I can say that the lawsuits for medical malpractice aren't always about making money. When someone dies, people go through the grieving process, and part of that process is anger.

It could be that the family is truly angry with the doctor from the Mayo, whether or not that is a logical response. They want someone to blame for the situation, and the doctor makes a pretty easy target.

In any case, my heart goes out to the family for their loss.

Another doctor gets off on a technicality. These doctors are out of control. Me and my neighbors in Forest Lake take care of each other--performing minor surgery on each other, prescribing medications, etc. We don't need all these nanny state physicians treating us anyway.

You are absolutely right! The medical - health industrial complex is destroying this country. They make my kids get unneeded shots; when I get physicals they probe areas where there is nothing wrong, all so they can get paid more.

No one dares to stand up to these doctors...

This family DID stand up to one of "these doctors" and i have to say, good for them. doctors, especially in large hospitals, have a god complex, and think theyre absolutely infallible. this guy obviously couldnt even admit the mistake that he made, a mistake that cost someone their life. i wish that family couldve sued his ass, and set the standard of care in hopsitals back to where it should be.

jury was probably paid off...
