For the record you wont hear me arguing that Obama wouldn't have done the same thing. In fact, they likely did it together. But TARP was enacted under Bush, not Obama.

Think about it 26 trillion / 300,000,000 men women and children = 86,000 and change to every U.S. citizen. Where would the money go? right back to the banks! Mortgages, car notes, credit cards, college loans, you name it! Just as all roads went to Rome, All money eventually returns to the banks.

Why not you ask? Because the government as a whole depends on poor, uneducated people who need government. And the politicians depend ultimately on bankers, and industrialists to finance their campaigns.

So doing something like that regardless of the benefits to John Q. public would reduce the size of government (and all politicians want big government - thats how they remain employed and get the funds to look good. The repubs and demos just want a different kind of big government) And would displease those who keep the individual politicians in office.

And until campaigns are publicly funded, and politicians serve only one term, the cycle will continue and we will all pay the price.
