Extreme dizziness and brain fog

hi my name is will and i live in nyc and was diagnosed with lyme in feb 06, since then ive been on doxycylcine,biaxin clarithromycin, amoxicillan and tindamax.

in the beginning i had severe dizziness with panic attacks and "brain fog".

has anyone else had these symptoms and got rid of them? im going on 11 months of off and on being sick but the brain fog almost never went fully away.

what can i take that would help me? i havent even been able to go to work in 2 months.

I feel your pain. I slod live in NY an have had chronic relapsing Lyme fore 11 years and every time I relapse I get the same symptoms: fatigue, brain fog, dizsiness, etc. Unfortunately, these are common symptoms of neurological Lyme. Have you tried IV antibiotics yet? who is treating you?

Hi Will,
I have very severe brain fog too. Also periods of dizziness. There are a lot of other things too..like very dry, painful eyes. Have the antibiotics you have been taking helped your lyme's symptoms. There was some question about me having it too, but I have not yet been diagnosed with anything particular.

Hey Linda, Your description matches mine almost to the tea. I experienced a brief but severe spinning of the room today and now my head is all fogged up and my eyes are killing me. I used to think it was alergies but it hasn't proved out. Good luck, please let us know if you find the answer. Respectfully, John

Diziness and Brain Fog are symptoms of problems with the kidney area.
I'd advise going to a chinese doctor to help with that or a nateuropath in addition to going to a regular doctor. In that way, you are treating the whole issue.

I have been dizzy for about 1 month. Prior to that, i have been dizzy but it did not last. I have a recurring rash, "patekei" (spelling not correct), headaches. When i was about 9 i had Lyme Disease. Polycistic Kidney disease is in my family, i recently had blood in my urine. Any suggestions? i am only 22 and can not function.

i went on the Iv from jan 2 til april 14th.. it was alot of ups and downs.. felt back to about 90% better.
then went to an ear Dr last week and she thinks i have some hearing loss and that i could have Mineres disease which could be the dizziness.. she put me on 60mg prednisone per day which helped out the most of all the anitbiotics ive taken and for about 3 days i was on top of the world, then it all went downhill and back to square one.. im back to extreme dizziness and brain fog, panic attack feelings and feeling like im walking on pillows.

im now tapering off the prednisone and i have an appt at presbyterian to see a neurolyme Dr tomorrow.

we took the iv out because my arm hurt and they found a small clot in one of my viens.

so ive been off the iv for 3 weeks and feeling terrible.
i cant stand for more than a few minutes without becoming very dizzy.. but as soon as i lay down i feel fine.

hopefully this is something else that can be cured... because the iv didnt do anything much different that the oral antibiotics didnt do.

try reducing your tea and coffee intake. a doctor i saw told me to try this

I was diagnosed with lyme, three weeks after the fact, went to the hospital and they dismissed me saying i had a pimple, then i was treated for an allergy..all along I had lyme..so taking amoxicillin and the droxycycline, i have had queasy stomach, diarhhea, dizziness which i can't walk, can't function at my job, etc. its been a nightmare, not to mention the bite in my right shoulder i could not move my arm on two separate occasions and my right hand went numb! Its been a month of a nightmare. I feel better now as I stopped taking the Droxycycline...it makes me dizzy, puke and sick to my stomach. I have not had lyme long, the 3 weeks into it...so not as bad as others, but i have missed so much work as i can't sleep, eat, drive a car or stop spinning when taking droxycycline. I feel good now and hope I'll be ok...I live on 2 acres with lots of roaming deer here and there and two foxes that frequent the area. Hoping everyone is feeling better soon, but I feel your pain, trust me..been there, done that! ;-0

I have chronic lyme that went mis-diagnosed for over nine years. I had all of the same symptoms and understand your frustrations. I was so fatigued, week and dizzy; could not remember anything or carry on a conversation. I also had severe twitches, and numbness in the left side of my body. Finally got to a lyme literate Doc who diagnosed me with late stage chronic lyme. I went on IV antibiotics in Jan. 2005 and remained on them for 10 months. I am now about 50-60 % better but still relapse occasionally; especially when I over do it. I take one week of oral antibiotics a month along with one day of Flagyl. I have not been able to work since Sept.'04. I have brain fog on a daily basis.Some days are worse than others.
You need to be checked for lyme co-infections. "Babesia" tends to be the culprit for alot of the brain fog and neurological issues. I took "Mepron" to help with the cognitive problems. It is a nasty yellow liquid that is very expensive, but is supposed to be very effective for treating Babesia with brain issues.
They have told me that I will never be completely "well" but am glad to be where I am. A couple of good days here and there are better than all bad days. Stay positive and be thankful for the small things in life.(except for the tick!) Stress and bitterness over your disease will only keep you sick.

I got bit by tick twice and both the time I went for blood test. Both the time it came negatibe I used to feel a lot of pain in my body/muscles and fatigue.

Finally I went to a Doctor who gave me droxycycline I took it for two weeks and feeling very good

My doctor say take it for a month and I should be ok

Can anybody tell me wht should I do after I am done with my 4 weeks course of droxycyline.

Lyme is different for everyone. For me, it included memory loss, depression, brain fog, muscle twitching, insomnia, dizziness/head pressure, hot hands/feet, tinnitus, fatigue, heart palpitations, repetative thoughts and a sense of compelling agitation. the symptoms migrated Never had any pain or bull's eye rash.

After 71/2 months on doxycycline, I am 95% better. If you can, exercise. Spirochetes die in oxgenated blood and heat. This disease will be chronic, so develop coping strategies and research natural remedies for immune system strengthening. If socialized medicine becomes a reality, these things will singularly be our only hope as chronic Lyme patients.

Reading the comments written here is like reading a biography. I too have been diagnosed with Lyme and have not worked for since June 05. I had all the symptoms you described Nancy B of NJ..went to Dr. after Dr. after Dr...testing, MRI's, bladder, kidney, upper/lower GI, hearing & balance testing, nerve conduction testing, falling with injuries due to dizziness, been admitted to hospital.. use of wheelchair, walker and cane. The list goes on but I'm sure you get the gist. See in Florida "there is no lyme". I finally found a Lyme Literate Dr. and he has been treating me with Doxycycline since March of 07. He feels I've had this for probably 8-10 years. I have come a long way but am still about 80%. The main thing I need to mention, if the doxycycline makes you sick, please don't stop taking it. It could be the herxheimer reaction you're going through. This reaction is caused because bacteria is being killed off at a faster rate then your immune system can handle. It's a good thing. Trust me, it gets better. If my Dr. had not let me know in advance what I would be going through it would have scared me to death. God Bless each and every one of you and stay strong!!!!!

I was dx with lyme in Aug. after going to the hospital for extreme leg pain. was told I had restless leg syndrome. 2 wks later dx with lyme. The dr. thinks I might have had it a few years. thinking back probably 3 or more with very little symptoms until this past aug. being re-infected with the co-infections. My biggest problem is lyme fog. I was told that I am going thru a dieing phase and it should resolve. I am on the 6month of anitbiotics by mouth, didnt have lyme fog prior to tx. will this go away I am deathly afraid!!

I am reading a lot about the brain fog and other problems and may have some help. I was diagnosed with Lyme in Nov 07. Got bit by the tick in 02. Symptoms started sometime in 03. Give some of these a try:

Brain fog -

Try some vitamin B12. I take it as a shot every other day but some people take it every day. If you can't get the shots get the under the tongue tabs. I have heard they work pretty good also.

IBS or what ever your doctor is calling it.-

Try some Nystatin. Your regular symptoms have probably gone down with the antibiotics but the antibiotics may have given you a yeast problem. I had been on Levsin since 03 and don't take it anymore. I have no symptoms of my supposed IBS any more.

Eye problems, eye twitching, floaters, touble focusing or staying focused.-

I was given an eye test that checked for my ability to focus and adjust focus. I failed the test. My Dr. put me on antibiotic eye drops. Almost instant results.
I still stuggle with tingling and numbness and headaches but I am alot better. Hope some of this info helps.

Just came back from the dr. with a prescription for Doxycycline. apparently the lyme in me presents as a body rash - I have bought stock of Calamine Lotion. Thanks for the post above me and the suggestion of the B12 for the "fog" - I've read where b12 deficiency is sometimes diagnosed as early dementia, I am going to try that.

I've asked my Dr. about the brain fog. He has explained it as my "processor" in the brain being overworked trying to fight off the lyme. As mentioned above, I am taking doxycycline and am seeing results even with the brain fog. The Dr. told me that I will be cured and my brain will return to normal. I can't even remember t.v. or movies I've seen in the past year or so and he knows this. He has told me with no hesitation that I will be OK. My eyes are getting better as well. Everyday is a new experience.

Will, it sounds as though you are overloaded with toxins ... I am not a doctor but a patient. A great quick detox is called "Bioxy Cleanse" .. Renewal Enterprises sells it. They also sell a liver detox that is really good. They have been the cheapest thus far. You will feel sick at first but continue to do it. I do the Bioxy Cleanse at night. I have chills and perspiration during the night but a day or two later feel the relief. You have to make sure you replenish your body the next day with minerals and loads of good water.
