I know this sounds quite strange but i actually do want insomnia ao that i can actually enjoy life more and stay up instead of sleeping. Has anyone ever had this experience? Also I just think it would be quite amsing because I am kind of pissed off with life and want a "kwik-fix" situation like winning the lottery. What is everyone else's views on this?

I have suffered with insomnia for five years, trust me you do not want it. If you are sleeping to much reevaluate your diet. You perhaps are low in iron, which will cause you to sleep alot and or you could have depression, which could cause you to sleep and or you may need to add physical activity and well balanced diet. stay away from the processed foods. Talk to your doctore, trust me this is the worst thing you could possibly have it ages you by ten years.3453

Hm.That sounds like your day must be real crap then to come out with something llike that. On the contrary, insomnia is not something that enables you to go out at night like batman,it's lonely, once i had not slept for nine days no word of a lie. Then i blacked out in town, can you imagine all those people looking at you? I still have to go to work. I still have to be there for my friends, while all the time i am awake i am exhausted. Not fun. Maybe you should go clubbing, do something new with your life.

In fact i'm taking this a whole step further by these rules.

INSOMANIA PLAN

1 drink at least 7 cups of tea before going to sleep in one day. As much as needed untill you feel like
2 Watch T.V for as long as you feel and get U NO WOT without U NO WOT
3 Make yourself as uncomfortable as possible. eg, put uncomfortable clothing on
4a. Increase your temperature body. e.g, thick clothing
b. decrease your body temperature by not many layers (Whichever you feel like)
5 Make sure that you do not lay down as if you are going to sleep.
6 Keep a diary on the times you achieve after 4.00am
(must be a work night. This is only an achievement if after 4.00AM)
7 treat yourself at weekends with a lot of sleep
8 Keep the curtains open while in bed
9 stimulate the brain with comedy or U NO WOT
10 Enjoy being depressed and make sure you feel satisfied with what you're doing
AND REMEMBER:
I WANT INSOMNIA

Andy, it seems like youre treating insomnia as a game. It's not at all like that and i do actually pity you for saying that stuff, insomnia isn't a nice experience at all, its really frustrating.

Andy dear, I feel you pain. Unfortunately, there are no quick fixes. We have to deal with life as they hit us each day. There is nothing we have control over out there....but we do over ourselves. There are no quick fixes. I can assure you from experience that after hard work, change in your attitude toward life, i.e., seeing some positive and working hard on that positive, I assure you in time, you will begin to see some improvements. It's so very hard..but I am a perfect example of what all the meds have done to a very sucessful carrer woman. I'm in recovery (after breaking my leg) so at this point, I am on leave at work and this has given me the opportunity to work with individuals and help them through my experiences. This is a fellowship that we can feel comfortable with. My IM for yahoo is a_elizbeth03 (That's for yahoo). if I'm not here, catch me on Instant Message on yahoo for a_elizabeth03@yahoo Good Luck!

The inability to get to sleep at night is a HUGE problem for many people. If you fall into this category, be assured there is hope to break out of the cycle.

Take a look at this blog. You will get the answer that you want. http://www.yourinsomniacure.com/blog/insomnia...

I hate my life and apparently if you don't sleep for ages then you hallucinate, I may only be 13 years old but I hope that insomnia ruins my life so that at least it will be different than the one I'm suffering now, at least if I eventually go insane, it will be a better life than the one I'm living now!
I agree with Andy, I WANT INSOMNIA!

I SUGGEST U TAKE IT BACK , U DON'T WANT INSOMNIA , NOBODY WANTS IT , BELIEVE ME ,U'LL REGRET NOT BEING ABLE TO SLEEP AGAIN .I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH INSOMNIA WHEN I WAS 14 AND I'VE TRIED ALMOST EVERYTHING , FROM EXPENSIVE MEDICINE TO ALL SORTS OF ODD PRODUCTS AND IT MERELY HELPED . I'M 17 NOW ,STILL HAVING TROUBLE FALLING ASLEEP AT NIGHT EVEN TAKING A SHORT NAP IS VERY DIFFICULT ,I AM VERY FATIGUE THROUGHOUT MY DAILY ACTIVITIES I AM EMOTIONALLY DOWN ALL THE TIME , N I GET SICK VERY EASILY (AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK) N I WAS HOSPITALIZED ONCE BECAUSE I PASSED OUT IN SCHOOL .THIS LIFE WILL BE MORE SUPERIOR THAN "INSANE" IT WOULDN'T FEEL LIKE YOU'RE A LIVING BEING , IT FELT LIKE A GHOST WALKING AMONG THE LIVINGS N SO I BASICALLY GOT NO LIFE N IT IS DEFINATELY NOT A HEALTHY LIFE .AND IF THAT'S WHAT U WANT THEN U WILL SUFFER THE PAIN I FELT,FYI I AM STILL WALKING IN HELL NEVER FELT BETTER ,WANTING A BETTER AND A HEALTHY LIFE IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME . SO PLEASE PLEASE I BEG OF U PPL DON'T EVER SAY "I WANT INSOMNIA" DON'T BE STUPID.

Insomnia is only bad if you do not choose to have it. No there is no quick fixes to insomnia for a common person. It simple takes practice and will power. I know people who willing only sleep for 1 hour a day. Saying it is not healthy is untrue. Just because it deviates from the normal lifestyle doesn't mean you can't make it healthy. Insomnia is not a serious condition therefore if you sleep very little each day or don't sleep for days. If you can manage not to sleep at all you may experience narcolepsy which isn't that great. The best way to become an insomniac in my opinion is to not rely on Caffiene or any other thing/drug that keeps you from sleeping. Make sure you get you're Iron from the most common sources chicken and beef. If you're a vegeterian I'd probably go with lentils or you could just google what is rich in iron.

Correction on healthiness/unhealthiness of sleep/insomnia. Physiological reactions occur in your body while you're sleeping that heal/rejuvenate your body. Insomnia can make you age faster, and sleeping more can make you live longer. If you have nothing to do and nothing fun to do, you should probably spend your time sleeping so that you can have more time for later in your life. Specifically your cells(just about every type cell I believe) won't have a chance to rejuvenate and this will cause you to age faster. I would suggest having insomnia only for important things. Besides there's no point in being awake if everyone else is asleep.
I don't know if there is a way to create these physiological reactions while you're awake or to speed it up while you're asleep.
Studies have shown that sleep deprivation results in a loss of strength, an impaired immune system and an increase in blood pressure. I'm sure with a 4th meal a day you can help keep yourself from losing strength, but I don't know if it'll help at all because your muscle cells may still need some of the physiological reactions that occur while you sleep.
Sleep loss can affect concentration and impair the ability to perform tasks involving memory, learning, logical reasoning and mathematical calculations. A recent study reported in The New York Times suggests that chronic lack of sleep may even make the aging process more difficult. The previous sentence probably means you age faster according to the study.

To Jen

I know I love having exscuses it is amazing escaping from reallity. WE could start a new craze! Its better than being like all of these emos that slit there wrists and threaten to commit suicide. JUst enjoy life more throughout the night and keep doing stuff. But remember at the same time, as a thirteen year old, you must be very careful that your parents are oblivious of what you are doing. YOu never know, you may have an exscuse for not going to school for a good couple of days!!!
Unfortunately for me I have only been able to complete this for one week and then i slept continuosly for most of the weekend. HOwever, I am getting better at it and once I was able to go two whole weeks keeping to the plan, and it was loads of fun.
We should contact each other through msn. add me andysinthehouse@hotmail.com. my asl is 15/m/kent

Your an idiot. Insomnia is a disease that prevents you from sleeping when you want to. You dont want insomnia, no one does. What you want is the ability to stay up later/longer without feeling tired. Caffeine sounds like the solution to me.
