So this means smoking strengthens the immune system?

I can see smoking bans lifted and cigarette taxes eliminated to lower health care costs.

I miss smoking in bars.

I had the 24 hour flu in the fourth grade. It was a nasty one. I'm pushing 60. Maybe a round of the flu without antibiotics gives you some kind of immunity.

Yale should do a study on how many smokers get the flu from having to go outside a bar during the winter. When I go to a friend of mines tavern eveyone is outside, including the bartender. It also funny that there are no Liberal Democrats who wanted the smoking ban drinking in there either. Liberals really know how to destroy businness they dont even patronize.

Gee, a bar without liberals. Sounds like a great tavern. I'll drop by if I ever get up your way.

Being outside has nothing to do with catching the flu. That's 1950's thinking!
I'm a die hard conservative Republican and I say keep your filthy harmful smoking habit outside too. It's not only the Liberal Weenies that look out for their health. Anyone with half of a brain knows the dangers of Second Hand Smoke, just keep it outside. I'll be damned if I have to stay home because of someone ELSE'S smoking habit/addcition. It's you my friend that is no longer socially accepted.

You do not catch a cold or the flu from being outside. You catch it from being INSIDE. You are around more people in more confined circumstances in the winter and that is why the cold and flu are more prevelant then. You HAVE to be around people to get the cold or the flu. THAT is how they are transmitted.

There is no evidence that second hand smoke harmful. That aside, you just don't like the smell which is OK with me. But what I don't like is how smokers have been stigmatized as social outcasts. Why aren't other addicts treated so poorly? Their behavior is far more damaging than smokers. Intolerance is ugly.

As a recently non smoking conservative, I'd rather drink with a smoking liberal, than you.

Because the other drug addicts don't have the same Second Hand Problems like Smokers have. Ever hear of Second Hand Heroin, or Second Hand Crack, or Second Hand Meth. Not me!!
Sure they have their own problems and cause other crimes, but SMOKING ADDICTS still think that in 2008 they can still inflict harm on innocent bystanders with their Second Hand Smoke.
Smoke if you want it's your addiction, just don't smoke near me.
I guess you are right, smokers really are worse than other drug addicts, at least SOCIALLY!!!

How many times must you be told? If you enter a business that permits smoking, we will be smoking ALL around you. Period. End of story.

My goodness. Better check your caffeine intake bud.

Much like the C02/global warming myth, it is a myth that second hand smoking is harmful.

http://www.davehitt.com/facts/

In each case, anti smoking and anti C02, the campaign is against individual liberty and does nothing to solve the problem.

Thats the problem here in Connecticut. The State issued a smoking ban in all bars and not in private clubs. My friends that own a small bar have lost 60-70% of their business , since the smoking ban was crated and there are no new non-smoking customers to replace the people who left either. They spent thousands of dollars before the ban was in place for air filters too. It's just some non smokers who don't go to these bars in the first place think that they should control eveyone elses business and roll out the red carpet for them when they finally do show up.

I know. It's a shame. I feel bad for all of the small time bar owners losing their bars or losing big time money for NO REASON at all where smoking bans have been placed. Adults should be made to be responsible for themselves. As far as my comment to smoke-free. He constantly says the same thing like if he walks into a business that permits smoking everyone will stop smoking. I just want to make sure he understands that will NEVER happen. He is wise to stay in non-smoking businesses.

On the bright side, here in Milford, Keepers, a gentleman's club <wink> <wink>, is a private club that offers beer, smoking and a brief respite from the anally retentive personalities of hypochondriacs.

"No evidence that second hand smoke is dangerous"?? Are you kidding me?? I would really research your statement if I were you becuase there are mountains of evidence that second hand smoke is MORE dangerous than the smoke smokers get.

If you can not find any info, let me know. I will provide it for you in the form of links to credible medical websites ..
