are you eating while you are asleep? If so do you take any kind of sleeping medications?

Even when I started the high protein diet low carb, it took many months for me to feel better. So if you think you're a hypoglycemic, you really need to give the diet months.
When you wake up at night try to eat some protein, cheese, chicken, etc. Just a little. I eat a small amount of protein right before I go to bed. It helps better. I use to not eat for hours before I knew I had they hypo... Then I'd wake up for hrs. like someone had given me an adrenalin rush. It turns out when you crash in the night or other times, your body compensates by releasing adrenalin to try to raise your blood sugar, and have energy for your body. |

I have the same thing, but I find it to eat crackers with a little peanut butter. Just enough. Or just like 4 Ritz then go to bed immediately. Then eat a full breakfast when I'm starving.
I guess I shouldn't be worrying so much. Can it get severe? |

Hi Everyone,
I have been struggling with hypoglycemia for 6 years. I am from the UK and have had no success with getting a GTT form my doctor - i even went to an endocrinologist who said my problems were psychological. Just wondering if there is anyone from the UK who has had more success. We are very backward here! Also i'd be interested to find out if anyone has these wierd symptoms - pressure in nose and bad sneezing, ice cold feet, numbness in lower legs and also i've noticed i'm getting lots of skin tags (kind of flat raised freckles), don't know if thats related. Thanks |

sounds more like circulation problems have you been tested for diabetes and high blood pressure? You may need a full physical. Get a A1C test done that checks long term blood sugar. |

1 Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents on the subject. I have reactive(also called "combined") hypoglycemia. There's been a few comments here with ppl that have had a GTT test to try and pick it up yet the results came up negative. Make sure you ask for an extended GTT. My results were normal for the first 2-3 hrs, but on the 4th it went down to 3.1 mmol/l (55mg/dl). More info on BG curves here: http://tinyurl.com/72sm6f |

Hello, I was diagnosed with being Hypoglycemic in 2002, and it seems like some of you people who wake up depressed and are late night/super early morning munchers have a WHOLE other issue than simply being hypoglycemic. Sounds like some of you are dealing with eating disorders in general, which, hypoglycemia is not. Some of you also sound like you're dealing with depression, which, hypoglycemia is not, either- and does not cause depression. You should see a doctor, or 2nd opinion- because you either don't have hypoglycemia AT ALL or you have something else on top of it!
ummm actually DANIELLE , some hypoglycemics get very bad anxiety it affects their daily life and therefore they get depressed that they have a continous cycle of anxiety, you should be thankful that you don't have it instead of telling us how we're wrong and right, trust me i suffer with great anxiety and depression because of my hypoglycemia |

I had gastric bypass nearly two years ago and am now at goal weight. Over the last year I've had escalating anxiety coupled with strange lightheadedness or the sensation that I'm fainting. Almost always, these episodes occur at night. Lately everything seems to be getting much worse. I wake up at night drenched in sweat and actually fainting. Often I wake up ravenously hungry, craving carbs (though I still do not eat refined sugar). My sleep cycle is completely disrupted and I often am up wandering around until 3 or 4am. Sometimes when I get up at night, I'm not fully cognizant of my actions. In the evening my blood pressure is usually 90/58. The worst part is the overwhelming, staggering anxiety. Making matters worse, I have ADHD and because of the gastric bypass, my meds no longer work. I was managing fairly well, but I'm nearly nonfunctional these past few months. Reading these posts, I'm now wondering if I have reactive hypoglycemia. If so, then there might be some hope for me.
Any feedback would be very very appreciated! |

Hi Rose. You are NOT crazy and there IS a reason for your trouble. In all likelihood your nighttime eating is causing a sugar spike, which unfortunately causes a sugar low for the rest of the night and the morning. You may or may not have other related conditions but your blood sugar is definitely at issue here. Your low blood sugar is also probably what causes or contributes to your awful feelings in the morning during the day. You also may possibly have adrenal fatigue going on, or other hormonal issues. These are all things you can learn about online or through books. The good news is, other people have experienced this and gotten better. THERE IS HELP AND YOU ARE NOT CRAZY. Best wishes, Dave |
