Thanks for your concern. I alluded to that being an issue for current employees in a previous post. However, Scully apparently thought that he/she was "outing" me. Truth is everybody knows who "HIH" is. This is York County after all...how many Black men have worked directly with Dr. Bassett during her tenure as Executive Director??? Scully was not making any major discovery; he/she was just stating a fact that was obvious to most people a week ago? As Black Boy asserted earlier, we don't have a very diverse county government. That's a topic for another post. Bottom line is there are people, some who remain nameless or some who assume other names (With today being Mother's Day, I don't think his/her momma named him/her Scully anymore than my momma named me HIH.)who have opposing views when comes to what has transpired. Scully was right though; the truth is out there.<quoted text> I do not think we should say names because it is our opinions some of us have facts, with the way the county is going there could be retalition!!

There may be an opportunity here to really bring things to light and effect a wee bit of reform in this, ah, rather "traditional" area; and for the betterment of the public at that.
Certain commissioners in office at present are an embarrassment to the progess of civilization, even by York County's standards. |

I believe that we should converge on one of the Commissioners PUBLIC MEETINGS which are broadcast and usually attended by the press. Let's decide a date and go for it. There are plently of QUALIFIED people out there could do an excellent job as a York County Commissioner. It's time that York County start voting for the most qualified person and not just someone who is a Republican.
Well, there's a thought, and the beginning of a plan. Who's on the bandwagon? |
I agree someone pick a date. Also there is the LAC meeting coming up. May 22 @ 9a at the 911 center. The legistrative folks will be there along with the commissners and Steve Warren a key player. Going to a commissners meeting is a great idea. I watched it last week and two people did stand up and ask about Dr. Basset resigning. The commissners said they could not discuss it due to it being a personnal reason. |
Well they found a reason to stop the LAC meeting blaming a employee that is know longer working there that she did not let the legistrators know the date!! Well we will just have to go to a commissners meeting. Anyone have a wednesday in mind?

Let's go with Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

yes i was off work as i am today. Just to setthe record, even though we are employees of this county we are first, and foremost, taxpayers without a voice. If we speak out in public - say at a commissioner's meeting - we would lose our job. Just a thought - as a taxpayer whose taxes assist in paying county employee salaries and benefits - I'm paying myself to work |
so how do you feel being an employee, hopefully you don't work with children & youth because this department should be called ruin the lives of children and youth. |
There is no difference that can be made here, they are all related somehow. You need to go farther, and yes in numbers.

Timing is everything. I agree we all need to come together and confront the powers to be. The more people speak out about their experiences and what they know has happened behind closed doors the more those afraid will step forward and speak up. We need to get the word out. Maybe starting our own web page to communicate would be more effective than through forum blogs.

Great idea, I defer to you with respect to the web page set up...I have technological impairments. Keep me posted. |

I am that employee and I am extremely upset that I would be blamed for canceling this meeting. Notices were sent out to EVERYONE just as the Assistant Director instructed. I made sure that all the arrangements were made before I left. So apparently the person who thought they could step into my shoes dropped the ball not me! For the HS office to state that I did not do my job is a slap in the face! There were numerous days (more than I can count) that I worked through lunch, without pay, and took work home just so it was completed - all this without being compensated! Homeboy in Hellam you know! I have moved on to job where I am treated as a professional and valued employee and compensated for my work! It's a shame that York County is not able to retain the employees who are willing to go the extra mile and work hard to make a difference. I am now planning to run for York City Council - hopefully I can make a difference there! |

every county ran department is a disaster.
911 dispatchers are working mandated 48-56 hours a week! While the directors get thier Mon-Fri 8-4 hours with weekends and holidays off no wonder they are grumpy and cant handle it when a major storm hits the county! Wonder what the combined turnover rate is for county employees..... |
no, i do not work for CYS although they have made great strides under the guidance of Dr. Bassett and Dr. Anderson. There a many great employees in that dept. and Dr. B and Dr. A had "terminated" several employees that were doing illegal and unethical things. Unfortnately, it is a union dept AND civil service which makes it more difficult to terminate employees. Dr. Bassett had planned on getting York County out of the civil service arena so the county had more flexibility in hiring competent, caring employees. Guess that's out the window now. These commissioners can figure out the difference between a resignation and termination. I loved my job. I loved Dr. Bassetts vision of combining the services. Many of us did not always understand her direction and that caused some confusion but we all understand what outcome she wanted and supported that. Just so you know that is now GONE. It has been decided that the county will no longer be a tier 1 county (which provided us with funding) but will go to tier 2 (no money given for this) so we can more slowly integrate the departments because directors want to get control back over their departments. I'd like to know which directors felt they didn't have control over their departments. I'm thinking the one who didn't should have control since his department was out of control when he did "have control". Just a hint at which department that is - it reports to a joinder board (York/Adams Commissioners) and not to York County Human Services. That department employees comes and goes as they please, get one hour lunches - allegedly they go out, get their lunch then come back and clock out for lunch. Pretty shifty. The thought is he probably should not be in control of any department. Just so everyone knows, CYS employees were looking forward to MHMR having to report to Dr. Bassett (that was an agreement that was to be signed by the Adams County commissioners - that MHMR would be directly under York County Human Services - not happening now) so she could clean house there like she did at CYS. |

"That Employee" was not only an extraordinary county employee, she is an extraordinary person. Best wishes with your bid for York City Council. My only regret is, living in Hallam, I can't cast a vote for you. But go ahead and "cut your teeth" with the York City Council...there may be a bid for County Commissioner in your future. |
Thanks for helping to give what has transpired over the last two (2) weeks some perspective. I was aware that the particular Director your speak of was quite resistant...my concern is, beyond power politics, what is at the root of the resistance. Is there something that he and the Commissioners are trying to hide? If so, what??? If there is someone who knows, please speak up and/or attend the May 21st Commissioners' Public Meeting. |
I hope to be able to attend the commissners meeting, Please read the post on the York Dispatch site to the article from Friday Quite interesting!!

There is a good word - Agenda! It is all about who you know - but the question to those in higher positions is who do you serve? It is about the citizens of York and those in positions to protect those who don't know or understand the system. As soon as someone shows compassion for the community, they boot them with a gag not to speak. I have heard that word gag a lot in the judicial center as well. Read the news folks! Get to know those who are spending YOUR money and on what.

The York Dispatch article is very interesting. Bassett submitted her resignation on May 2nd effective immediately. Yet the commissioners offered her a serverance package. Does that usually happen when someone submits a resignation?
She agreed not to sue the county and/or discuss her termination with the media. I thought she resigned now this article says it was a termination. If she resigned why would she need to sue the county? What does she know that we need to know? Was she terminated or did she resign? Remember the commissioners meeting May 21st, 10:00 am, 28 East Market Street. Demand truth from the commissioners. |
