That should have happened a long time ago and the County would still have some good quality employees left who knew the business.

Its sad that the newspaper can not post more information, or won't post more information such as the mass exodus of qualified staff that left due to Bassett, or the untold amount of money the county wasted on botched firings, or keeping on loser employees (Wayne Bair). Bassett offered nothing to the residents of this county and we are better off without her. Move back to Florida Bassett!

Dr. Bassett brought fresh ideas and higher professional standards to some county agencies that for decades were content with delivering marginal services to the residents of York County. Those celebrating her departure represent the "quick to criticize but slow to act" who are the very reason we came to need the talents of someone like Dr. Bassett in the first place.

I agree. The county was moving in a direction of holding employees and providers accountable for their delivery of work and services. Again, it will all go back to the "good old boys" network and we will once again be divided. This will never service the citizens, especially the children of York County. When will you naysayers learn that change is good and inevitable.

Who knows the business now? No one, that is why it has been run into the ground for years. Shame on you, there are many quality employees, and we keep losing them, not due to Dr. Basset's ideas, but due to others incompetence, and those are the ones who are for her leaving and pushed her out.

This is a great opportunity for the county to diversify its senior leadership. Deputy Warden,Director of Youth Center, Director of Facilities, etc. Has anyone taken a look at the County's EEO-4 report lately?

It's amazing how the County doesn't reveal the truth. Citing confidentiality reasons. Let's be real. It's a disgrace how the county can determine who they make smell like a rose, and how they hammer the dedicated workers who are truly the victims of a corrupt group of so called leaders.

I totally agree- why not do some research and figure out how bad things were during Judith's "reign". Why let her get off with no explaination.

Finally a step in the right direction, now if we could only get rid of the remaining corrupted political cronies within the county who only care about climbing to the top so their egos can be stroked instead of making sure the needs of their departments are met, not to mention the seriously disgraceful behavior of do as I say, not as I do

I think that we all are missing the point. I believe that whenever there is change rank and file employees see it as an opportunity to move on or to make a statement. C&Y, AAA, YDC and the prison are all governed by labor contracts and therefore getting rid of any poor performers/laggards is nearly impossible.

When upper management leaves it is time to take a look at the elected persons above them. How many upper management left (forced to resign) the last time Chris Reilly was in office...'nuf said.

As a former employee of York County Human Services and having worked with Dr. Bassett I cannot believe the comments that I'm reading - and I can tell you right now that these comments are being made by employees or former employees who apparently don't care about serving York County seniors, children, families, and veterans -they simply want a paycheck and great benefits. Dr. Bassett was hired for her knowledge and experience and her ability to implement change. Someone who wasn't afraid to bring York County to a higher level of services. She has worked extremely hard to make York County Human Services programs and it's employees accountable to the their real employer - York County Taxpayers!
York County Residents need to know the amount of time and money that is being wasted by employees who feel that they are not accountable to anyone simply because they are government employees and after all it's been that way forever. I have seen this waste first hand and it is time that the residents of York County start holding EVERYONE in County Government accountable!!! Including the County Commissioners! Dr. Bassett tried to bring a new level of professionalism and service to Human Services and obviously those not willing to step up to the plate and 'earn their keep' are glad that she is gone.
York County taxpayers wake up - start holding your 'employees' accountable - after all we pay their wages. Demand an answer, instead of a politically correct answer -'it's a personnel matter.'

Well, OK then. Why doesn't the YDR start sniffing around a little? Seems like there is a story here. Oh, that would require originality, a staff who can report, and a little time. Hmm, well, let's see what else is on the wire service that we can rip off?
Besides, we can't report anything that might upset certain people of authority, or certain advertisers. I know, let's do another nifty story about that cute baseball team of ours. Oh, those kids!

I like the sarcasim. YDR should not waste their time on this matter. Perhaps it would benefit them to report on worthwhile news, such as GOOD things occuring in the York area. Dr. Bassett leaving the county is ashame because as others have said she brought experience to the County. Though the micro-management style is not popular, she had a lot of great ideas.

YDR should investigate the top dogs who are responsible for the releasing of so many top officials! Of course this is all political, if you are not liked you will get the boot in the butt.....Welcome to York County where it's not about who you know it's who you ...... well you get it

What or whose agenda is being pushed here? There is a veteran, county manager and seasoned Masters-Level social worker in C. Bruce Funk, the current Assistant Director of the Department of Human Services. However, Charles Noll is going to serve as the acting Executive Director for HSD? It is clear that political decisions are being made that have nothing to do with how to best serve the residents of York County. Chronister and the two "rubber stamp" Commissioners have some explaining to do. County residents, don't let them get away with this!!!

I think there are so many county employees who agree with you but are afraid to admit it in this current climate. Being former employees affords us the opportunity to give "voice" to those who are within their rights to fear retaliation or reprisal if they take an "unpopular position". After all, look where taking an "unpopular position" landed Dr. Bassett. I, for one, am going to keep speaking up. They better get some "good answers" together because I have a whole lot of "good questions".

Then let's confront them and hold them accountable - the Commissioners and for that matter - ALL York County elected officials were elected by the people of York County to serve the people of York County - NOT THEMSELVES! It's time that York County residents come together and start making it's so-called leaders responsible for their actions! It's 2008 not 1960!
