Myth: HIV/AIDS Rate Among Black Women Traced To 'Down Low' Black Men

Twenty-five years later, the origin of AIDS is widely believed to have originated in Africa when a primate (monkey) virus "jumped species" to first infect Black Africans during forced intercourse with the primate. However, it is important to note that this belief is theory, not proven fact.

That theory always sounded real ridiculous. It sounded like something racist whites came up with and not the actual truth. Yes I know how they came up with the theory but it still sounds very dumb.

Considering the number of partners a man can have these days it isnt hard for one alpha high risk male to infect many women. Since there is also a prevailing attitude among black females that its a man's perogative to use a condom or not, it isnt a surprise that many black females leave themselves vulnerable.

OOOO sister I have to say your wrong I have a gay friend that is black also and come 2:30 am every straight black man in Harrisburg to get Blow and get Blowed and what ever they want from him. I live right next door so I see it ever weekend . Some Brother are on the Down Low .Some brother well stick it in any hole .

Take out personal responsilibity and morality, you'll then find the true cause of AIDS. People don't catch AIDS innocently unless you are born with it. Racism and poverty myth has been played out too long. It doesn't explain why rich whites also get AIDS.

I do believe blacks account for more than 12% of the American population. People who blame whites, poverty, racism, and any other whim that comes to mind don't want to face the simple truth.
The unsafe sexual practices of blacks are to blame,
nothing more, nothing less. These men on the "down low" bring home every sick disease to their wives and families.
They are ashamed of their sexual orientation, so instead of behaving responsibly, they destroy innocent family members with a death sentence.

This is totally misleading. The title 'Myth' that HIV/AIDS rate among blk women traced to 'Down Low'Blk Men. There are no points made as to why its a myth outside of the blk males surveyed didn't admit that they engaged in high risk sexual activities!!!! You don't say? IT's called being on the Down Low for a reason!!!! They don't want anyone to know you NPR moron's. They even go so far as to say other 'high risk' behaviors such as injecting yourself with needles in recreational drug use isn't a factor because they can quantify that. So what is going on the HIV/AIDS fairy is visiting blk women in the middle of the night? M*th*r F'r PLZ!!!! The logic would be funny if it wasn't killing innocent women.

I can only say that more closing of legs (for males and females), being more selective of partners, private investigation and bloodwork are needed, along with seriously increased condom usage are in order.

In doing work with an HIV charity I can say that I think that in certain hot spot areas so many people are screwing the same people..the same hookers (male and female), the same town tramps, the same men or women with other risky behaviors....and it just works its way around.

If you go to places around the world where AIDS is high you can see how it is spread....because so many people sleep with the same kinds of risky people unprotected and then those people bring it to their stable partners, male and female.

If monogamy were practiced and sexual control, not to mention being much more particular about sleeping with people, a lot of diseases would not be spread.

Exactly. The highest risk black men tend to have the most black female sexual partners. If you are a man and can have any number of baby mamas, you can certainly infect all those baby mamas. What number of men are actually have sex with both men and women? Very few. What kinds of black men in the black community get the most females? Lets see...

Bottom line, wear condoms, PERIOD!
