6years ago I had the metalwork taken out of my fractured hip. Since then I have been having pinching feeling in my inside thigh on the side of the fractured hip.My consultant said I need a hipreplacement because of the Degeneration of the old fracture. I really really do not want to have this done. I lead an extremely active life. I am a full time gardener and I also do a lot of sports. I am only 55

Good luck!! Don't be nervous, my doctor told me that patients finds that recovery is much faster and less painful than they are expected. Keep us posted how you are doing! All the best!

I am 21 years old and born with Hip Dyplasia. I only found out this year. Went for a routine MRI scan to determine how serious it it and picked up SEPTIC ARTHIRITIS in my left hip. After many (4) operations in trying to get rid of the sepsis I now have 2 options. 1 to have a Athrodesis or 2 a THR. I have opted for the second. I am really nervous as I have spent the last 8 weeks in hospital and i have limited mobility. I can walk with crutches only very short distances and are in a wheelchair if I go anywhere else. What really concerns me is that in most cases the sepsis returns when you have a THR. Which Orthopic Surgeon can I see in South Africa? They all make me so nervous due to my experience I have had so far.... Anybody else in the same situation?

I am in my 50's and was diagnosed back in 2010 with a hip problem, back in April this year I had a further X-ray and the space between had completely gone. I do a dog walking job part time and walking for me is essential and despite my supposed being too young by a lot of people, I want my quality of life back in my younger years and know what to endure if I should need a replacement in the future.
I am a little nervous about surgery but have a very nice guy performing the surgery. I am told things will be a whole lot better for me once surgery has been done and I can walk.... without a limp again. Yes. I dont really have a weight problem, but a little worried that I will put on weight during the 6 weeks of not being able to dog walk, so I will be on a bit of a diet before and during my rehabilitation. Good luck to Pink. |

hey guys i need help PLEASE. I'm 28 and had hip scope labral debridement in 2008. i had ongoing Left Hip problems ever since and was never fully recovered after the surgery even tho the surgeon said I'm able to chase my dream to transfer to clearance diving or personal trainer in the military. 3 years later i was diagnosed by a sports physician of Left Hip OA between grade II-III (grade IV being the worst). the last three years was up and down battle to keep an active lifestyle, manual labour work and doing maintenance on the hip. i saw the sports physician last week and he recommended cortisone injection (i had it done today) and if this does not work, he pretty much said that i need to get HIP REPLACEMENT. he said he's seen it get it done at my age. i do still think I'm young and always live a very active lifestyle all my life. the last four months i am limited to work, exercises (limited core stability, swim and lots of hydrotherapy stuff). I am to the point where i don't want to lose any more that "could've been happy and didn't miss out on things i want to do" if i didn't have this ongoing problem on my left hip. i want to live pain free and i want my quality of life back now. i don't know how people pull up after getting hip replacement surgery at around my age or should i wait till i get a little older. i also want to know if hip replacement will get you back to being active and fit again and live a happy life instead of wasting those young years with pain and discomfort. i need your opinion / suggestion everyone.
THANKS SO MUCH : chewbakarrrrr@gmail.com |

should i get hip replacement while I'm young?
what questions do i need to ask myself to consider this major surgery? im scared to be honest. i did not have good outcome when i had Left hip arthroscopy back in 2008. please help guys. thanks so much |
I am currently 19 and I got a full hip replacement when I was 15. I was in serious pain for about 2 years before the surgery, and it got to the point where the doctor said it was up to my comfort and how much longer I could deal with the pain... I couldn't.. so I scheduled to have the surgery. I could not have imagined waiting another couple of years... I would say it is really up to how your husband feels. |

Hi I'm 19 and having a hip replacement because I am in so much pain from an agressive benign bone tumour, so I have to have it done, I have been in so much pain I feel i am missing out on life. My doctor said to me do you want to have no pain and be able to do things I'm fed up of crutches. I feel I am very young but it is what it is.

Hi Mari, I'm 19 and having my hip replacement soon, and I was wondering how it is with a hip replacement, can you do a lot of normal things like running ? I am worried about the limitations it is going to cause. |

Judged: 1 Hi there, I am 21 in a very similiar situation as you and although I haven't had my hip replaced (yet) I can tell you this much. Is it worth it? Pain, anger, frusteration, depression. Is it worth it? Not to me. I'm going to get mine done because I want to live a certain quality of life. You could die in 5 years not 20, and you can sure as hell bet you would regret not having the surgery. |

I salute your doctor for not allowing your husband to undergo hip surgery, you might be thanking him for that. Check this website www.depuyhiprecallcenter.com for you to realize that its best to wait or find other alternative which does not require surgery

I am 43, and have had 2 Birmingham Hip Resurfacings, the left hip 2 years ago, and the right hip earlier this year.
After years of pain, I am now completely pain free. I can run and play with my 3 year old daughter. I can put my own socks and shoes on. I can sit on the ground again. In short, I am no longer hindered by arthritis. Both surgeries were straight forward, and I was walking the following day. I was down to one crutch after 3 weeks, and crutch-free after 5 weeks. Because I'm now able to walk and run without pain, I have been able to lose weight, and am now far healthier than I was before my hips were resurfaced. The only downside I've encountered so far - setting off the metal detectors at the airport every single time :) |

Karen I was 14 when I had my first hip done.the main concern with me was i was still growing at the time but with adults they don't like replacing hips too early as they will have to replace them again sometime once the hip has had its time.they can only do this so many times so they ask patients to wait as long as possible before doing them.if you explain about the lack of quality of life and how it affects your "personal relationship" with your husband (if it does) they usually will go ahead with it early because its a major health issue affecting everyday life.i had no quality of life at all and was stuck in my wheelchair so they had to do something.hope you get sorted but the too young bit is a well used excuse x |
