What is a Margon type of THR? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about them. I may be getting one soon!

I had a Margron Total Hip System in 2/2005. The acetabular cup failed, and had to be replaced in 11/2008.

I had a Margron hip replacement in 2004. I have been in pain everyday since the surgery and have been inactive because of it. I went back to the surgeon and he said it looked fine. Recently I went to a new ortho. and he said the stem needs to be replaced. I was told this replacement is no longer used. I have lost 6 years and now need to pay for another surgery. Any suggestions? Is it the manufacturers or surgeons error? I am very frustrated since the surgeon did not let me know there was a problem with the Margron hip once he found out.

OK, my Margron femoral stem came a bit loose, and I've now had it replaced. Not a pretty picture.

I Had a Margron right hip replacement in January 2007 which was a disaster. The stem had rotated and I had revision surgery in June same year. Still in pain I consulted an alternative surgeon and had a 2nd revision in December same year. The Margron was removed and replaced with a different brand.
In 2008 I had THR on my left hip.
All this was due to road accident.
Can now (2011) walk unassisted, and have completed 9 holes of golf, but can't go further (yet). Stairs and hills are difficult.
I have strong symtoms of cobalt poisoning, and about to have blood tests.

My Margron hip prosthesis was fitted by Dr. Sekel in early June 2005. I rate it about 7.5 out of ten because I was told not to lift it more than 90 degrees. If I accidently go further than this, the joint is sore the next day.
Walking gives a little pain, & standing on that leg is not as strong as the leg without the prosthesis.
A next door neighbour had to get revision or replacement on her Margron hip joint.
Was cobalt used in the device?

My Margron was implanted in May 2004. The US FDA ordered a recall of Margrons based on the high rate of insecurity for the femoral prosthesis. I think that was 2008. My femoral stem came loose in 2008. In November 2010 I had a revision to replace the femoral prosthesis only. I retained the pelvic implant that matched my margron fermoral prosthesis. Here in the states we see countless adds by law firms looking for patients who received the DePuy implants. Over 80,000 of those implants were sold. By comparison, some 4200 Margrons were sold before they were yanked from the shelf.

Rather than waiting for an attorney to sign us up on their case, is anyone interested in forming a group to hire an attorney to see what liability the margron manufacturer may have?

Hi Matt,

I have a close family member who had a faulty Margon hip replacement in 2005. She was able to get compensation from the company through a law firm. I don't know the exact details of how much she was able to get, but this is what she used:

http://96.125.161.151/doc/hip/

Fill out the form with your information and they'll submit your case to multiple lawfirms to review. It took a couple of days to be contacted.

It's for US residents only.

I have not heard of this type of hip replacement but I am trying to learn more about the different types of hip implants since my uncle is about to have one. Based from the comments here, it seems like it is not very popular either. I hope it does not cause any serious complications like other hip replacement products such as the one which was issued with a DePuy hip recall. http://www.hiprecalllaw.com

The Austalian company (Portland Prostesis) that produced th Margron unit withdrew the product from the market a few years ago. The business went into offical management and was sold to an American company. I doubt very much that the Margron product is still used.

Here in the States the FDA recall prevents the sale, distribution, & implantation of the Margron prosthesis. When mine came loose they checked for cobalt poisoning, which can occur. My test was negative. DePuy and Stryker manufacture several different models of implants, so if you are researching be sure to get from your surgeon the exact model no.(s) proposed to be used. It may be that the final prosthetic selection is made in the OR once they have you fillet'd open so they see how thick your femur is, etc.

Matt, I had a Margron failure in 2002 which included a fractured femur. I tried sueing my doctor but got no where. When I had the replacement surgery I requested that the hardware be given to me and they did so. I still have it and would like to see if I can get any conpensation as I have been left with many problems.

I know what you were feeling and I am almost positive it is Margron failure. My doctor in Seattle used this on me and it was a total failure and left me with permanent damage. I have the hardware and would like to sue the company but unfortunately they are no long in business. Wish I had know more about the failures before Margron sold out.

Do you really think we could still have a case against Margron? If I thought there was a snow ball chance in hell of winning I would go for it.

Daily Horoscope for May 19

Scorpio

There are days when you feel you can't say or do anything right, but happily this isn't one of them. In fact, it's a wonderful day in which everything goes well and it's remarkably easy to get on well with whoever happens to be around. Not that you want to spend your time with just any old person. You'd much rather get together with some close friends or that special someone in your life.
