My partner recently had a kidney transplant but post surgury he developed an incisional hernia that was repaired with the incertion of mesh. However the mesh has debilitated him as he cannot lean forward or bend. He is constant discomfort as the mesh is pressing so hard against his organs. Has anyone experienced any similar feeling and does it pass with time. It has now been six months with little improvement.

Katya, There is a larger hernia blog on this Topix site. I can give you much research regarding complications from mesh. There are surgeons who have much experience with these problems which prove difficult to cure. Please e-mail me directly at brosenberg1@bellsouth.net and I will forward the research and contact #'s to you. Please tell your friend not to give up. Bruce |

I had an 8x8 inch mesh placed in my abdomen because of a large incisional hernia and now I have another hernia that is over the top of the mesh. I don't know what to do. Do I go back to the surgeon I previously went to? Did he do something wrong? Who do I trust?

I am new to your site but by reading what these people have been through I feel it is as familiar as can be. I have also had hernia mesh repair. In November of 2006, I went in for hernia repair. They did not at that time put in the mesh. It was 4 months later when my hernia tore out again and I wound up with a Double incisinal hernia. At that time is when my doctor put in the mesh. I have been living in constant pain since then. Can not bend, move side to side, lift anything over a gallon of milk, and suffer every day. Now, as of today, I have been scheduled to go in on October 11th to the hospital because supposedly the mesh did not hold the hernia and now possibly problems with my bouwls because of it. I have read alot about the Kugel mesh recall, but has anyone heard about GORTEX MESH? That is what is inside of me now, and I am having the same difficulties as people who have the Kugel. My doctor insists that it is the strongest possible mesh, and I also asked the question, "Is my body rejecting it" I was told the same thing. No it is not a common thing. I was just wondering if anyone has a comment about the "GORTEX BRAND MESH, AND HOW DO THEY FEEL ABOUT IT". THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME Christine

I have the Goretex mesh and have been in pain since it was put in in April of this year. My dr has said the same thing but I am wondering what other complaints are out there for this mesh. I can not cough, sneeze, laugh or lift my head without feeling like it is cutting me in half.

My mom is complaining about the same thing. She has the Gortex Mesh and got it from Dr Cornwell, or Cornwall at St Lukes in Meridian, ID. Be wary of this mesh. She is in constant pain.

My son had his incisional hernia repair in Nov 2007,he was ok for a few weeks but then the mesh seemed to have moved and is almost sticking out of him.(He had it on the front of his tummy)..my poor 7 year old son has been in constant pain,it took 12 weeks to be seen by the surgeon, who said they would arrange for a scan, that was 5 weeks ago and no scan as yet.My son says it hurts him most of the time and to eat, therefore he doesn't really eat much at all now.He has thrown up a couple of times too.He was very slim due to being a heart surgery child and now his soo skinny, its aweful.
They promise another surgery,to explore the problem and to replace that mesh with another different type -yet we wait and wait for the appointments, its such a battle. My son's school is arranging him to see a therapist as to why his so fed up all the time... I just want my son to be well again... |

Lucy, I see this is an older post, please update us on the larger topix board "FDA Warns of Death and ...." It is specifically stated in the product directions that these mesh products should never be used in children as they are growing and more mobil than adults. Please contact me if you read this at brosenberg1@bellsouth.net or meshoma1@yahoo.com I hope I can help you. Bruce |

I had sugery in 2001 due to post-surgical internal hernia, and had a 6x6 piece of gortex mesh placed. I have not had any pain per se, just some problems with bending forward and backward. However, for the last 6 months or so, I have all these little bebe-type internal bumps that I can feel, which are becoming very itchy and increasing in number and size. Anybody else have this?

I was stabbed about 6 1/2 years ago in the upper abdomen/lower chest. I was rushed into emergency surgery to repair internal injuries. Since then, I've had two ventral hernia surgeries where they inserted mesh that covers my entire abdomen and a 1/3 of my chest.
After those surgeries, I'd feel better for a few months, but soon after that they'd come back. It has gotten to a point that it hurts to even sit up. I've gained about 50-60lbs since that time due to my inability to exercise. My surgeon told me after the first procedure that I could return to my normal activities which included heavy weightlifting, softball, and any other outdoor activity I could do. I've had to give up all of those things. It got to a point that it just hurt to much to be enjoyable. I guess my question is this: Am I the only one like this? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Just had incisional hernia surgery with mesh inserted, today is 3 weeks. My doctor said it was from having 3 - sections that weakened the muscle in my stomach. Will the swelling in my abdomen go back to its original size? I look 3 months pregnant. Can't get jeans on or anything with a zipper. Very sore and can't bend forward. Alittle cranky!

I had hernia repair in June 2008; Inserted Gortex mesh to repair; Tomorrow, I'm going back for the second time since the original surgery to debride and drain infection. The doctors in the emergency room were telling me that this is common with the Gortex mesh, because your body will reject it. Seems I am allergic to it. The surgeon is going to take some more of it out this time. Does anyone know about a recall on the Gortex mesh? Anything I can do to help get my medical bills paid? I don't think it's right that I have to keep going back for surgery. If it's as common as the ER doctor said, why are they still using it?

I had the Gortex put in on Jan.15 and I had the same problem. I went to see another doctor and he told me that Gortex Mesh has caused alot of problems for alot of people. One of the main problems is that it can set up infection inside your body. Thats what it did to me and which caused my tissue to die. It is very advisable to have it replaced with another type. |

I had a kidney removed in 2008. Within a year I developed a large incisional hernia that was repaired with mesh. I am in constant pain. I am now trying physical therapy but nothing seems to help. I saw the surgeon last week and he said either I am developing another hernia under the mesh or the mesh may have a small hole in it. He suggested another surgery. I need some feed back; I am so confused and disgusted.

I had 3 operations starting in 2006 of Oct.For a Inlingual Hernia was implanted with a Darvol,Bard Compsix (MonoPolyproplene Large)Prefix Mesh Plug.Had swelling,tenderness,@ the site.Pain you name it.went to the Doctor, had a CT Scan.Had surgery to remove it,was displaced, the Doctor had to remove tissue, muscle from the abdomen wall, from where it had enbeddied itself, also it was wrapped around my intestines. This was #2 operation to remove the Prefix Plug but of course it was not supposed to have any problems with it,yeah right!!!!! then to make matters worst...
he decides to put in sometype of product that was to make tissue grow.which was to disolve into the lining and the lining to grow while it disolved, yeah right.(pain, swelling,) yet, another CT Scan, nothing showed.# 3 operation this past Jan 2009,Guess what else I had.Which was not even told Large Mesh, which was not even charted in my medical files and can't even get anyone to even listen to me,much less get anyone to even tell me how to file a complaint so the limitations won't run out.Anybody can tell me some good advise or has anyone had the same thing done to them? Have had at least 3 lawyers look at my claim all they seem to even care about is "Kugel Mesh Recall LawSuits that Are On the List" they don't even care that the stuff is made out of the same material that the products that is recalled is made out of...Oh,and yeah,my lower left side is still sticking out further than the right(its flat as a pancake) everytime I have seen the doctor he has told me to wear a Control Panty,)Yeah,Right. Well, Mister what about the soreness, swelling, and the pain? and what about the swelling the goes into my left leg? and the numbness that goes into my left side area to my thigh and the pain and the constipation?and the stomach swelling too? I know exactly where some of you are coming from I have the same symptoms and I have had it all supposed to have taken out unless they left some of it floating around in there that they missed. |
