Before I was diagnosed with GERD I was convniced I had throat cancer. I was a smoker, and had developed a swollen feeling on the right side of my throat accompanied by a radiating pain in my right ear. When I ran a search on the internet those symptoms kept coming back to throat cancer. Does anyone else ever get pain in their inner ear that they associate with GERD?

Well, I don't have it myself. But my 4 year old daughter has severe heartburn (on 2 meds for it) and has had 7 ear infections since October 05. She complains of frequent ear pain.

Ive been afraid that i have throat cancer too. I have a sore pain on one side of my throat and pains in my ears that come and go. I have hoarseness that comes and goes as well.Im pretty sure its GERD but I scare myself by looking things up online. My ears also itch at times too...I'm a hypochondriac...

I have GERD and my doctor presribed LOSEC. My heartburn is almost gone but I have hoarseness, throat and ear irritation that doesn't want to go. I'm scared too having throat cancer and I'll go and see a specialist.

I've been recently diagnosed with GERD after a barium swallow. Never had heartburn in my life - I'm 54 - but had slight pressure on one side of my throat for a few years. It got worse in the summer -some asphagia (difficulty swallowing) and my doctor sent me to an ear-nose-throat guy who arranged for the barium swallow. I was told I have a lot of reflux and was put on 2 tabs (20 mg each) of Pariet daily. They have so far done very little for my throat symptoms (pressure and some pain now, too) and today the pain is stronger and extends into my right ear - almost feels like an infection. Am I assume this is all GERD-caused? Your original comment makes me think yes. Any update on your condition?

Also have ear pressure. Sudafed helps but wondering if it's associated with gerd. Doctor seems to dismiss symptoms. Doing a trial of prevacid for the last week but doesn't seem to help.

I have had some of the symptoms a lot of you describe...hoarseness, headache, ear pain and difficulty swallowing. I was scoped and found to have GERD with no significant tissure damage.
Also, I cough so violently at time that I almost hurl..and my ears itch too. MD says the itching is caused by acid refluxing up the eustacean tubes.
I am on one Nexium per day with some relief, but it is not curing everything.
Thankful that I don't have much heartburn pain, but I sure do have a lot of other weird, annoying symptoms.
The kicker is, I dont always know what will bring the symptoms on. Sometimes there is not any atributable realtionship to my eating or activities and the onset of this stuff. FRUSTRATING!

Yes - it's hard to make plans when you don't know how you're going to feel. What was the scope like? I'm afraid to have it done.

I have a diagnosis by HIDA scan and I have gallstones with a slowing of my digestive processes. This has been going on for two years with occasional classic gallstone pain however recently I have been getting very distressing pain and extreme irritation in my right ear and throat with bruised feeling at base of skull. I thought this was an ear infection and although the GP could not see any infection he gave me antibiotics in case. I also had drops which did not help. The condition comes on suddenly for no apparent reaosn and seems unrelated to types of food and I am on a fairly low fa diet now. Having read thse other posts I feel sure it must be to do with gas from my digestive system as described above. I am taking Protium at intervals for Gastric reflux. Right now it is 2.27 am and I am being driven insane by this part pain part itch inside my right ear and deep in my throat. It could well be an irritated eustachian tube but I can also feel very sensitised places just inside my outer ear..feels intensely inflamed .

I too have noticed that it starts with the swollen feeling in my throat then progresses to a constant right ear pain. This would be bareble if it wasn't for the severe lightning-like jolts of pain that rip through my head intermittently every few seconds/minutes. Also the entire right side of my head feels like I have a sunburn and even the wind blowing on it is excrutiating. I had GERD, don't have it anymore, but this seeems more neurological to me. Any ideas?

I did the Bravo test where they stick a micro chip in your throat and found very severe GERD. I have pain in my right ear and throat. I have been driving myself crazy thinking it is throat cancer but I guess this is common.
Do anyone have a tongue that doesn't want to move in there mouth correctly as a result??

For the past few months I have had a little sratchy feeling on the right side of my throat when I swallow.
It is there every day but not every time I swallow.
It doesn't hurt and i can't feel it when i am eating or drinking. It went away for about a week and has come back again. Occassionaly I get an ear ache which last for a day and sometimes I get what feels like heat in side my right ear. It seems that when my throat is dry it is worse and if I stretch my neck and
swallow it seems to go.
Does any one else have these symptoms?

Reading all this It seems clear to me that GERD must give symptoms of ear pain, throat pain and neck pain at times yet my GP denies that my similar pains could be connected to my gallstones and GERD. It is 2.07 am and I am suffering this again plus passing extrme bowel gas. I have just taken a Protium in case the pains are from the GERD. Ear drops have not addressed the problem..they wont if it is due to GERD. Why is my GP resisting this theory?
