Cutting-through the MRSA hype

“There are simple precautions we can all take to minimize risk, but the risk is still very minimal”

There's a lot of misinformation about the reality of MRSA infections. Local doctors say MRSA is really no more or less dangerous than most other kinds of common bacteria. via WNWO-TV Toledo

SORRY POSTED TWICE, I MEANT TO PUT MY INFO HERE:
My life has been turned upside down by a resistant staph infection left in my tissue from an invasive surgery. After 2 years, the infection had eaten away all the tissue in my body, and began coming out through the skin. Once that happened, it was a very rapid decline. I lost over 30 pounds in 8 months, I only weighed 125 as it was and am 5'7" so it was NOT a good thing. I had gone to 3 doctors in that first 2 year period after the surgery, they just gave me antibiotics, no testing, assumptions only, and things would get better at first, then I'd get worse again. Once the wounds on the skin occurred, the first new doctor I went to said he was so positive it was MRSA that he immediately prescribed penicillin, doxyciclyne, and gave me a shot of Rosefin for like 3 or 5 days. I got so very sick! Then, my son's doctor saw how bad I had gotten when I took the boy in for his annual physical. The year before I had told him my symptoms and he said to stay on top of it...then when he saw me that year later he said to go to his friend at a clinic in a city nearby for her opinion. I did, and she TESTED the wound, took a culture. For the first time, someone cultured the wound and found out that it was not Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, but the infection was resistant to Penicillin!!! These previous 6 doctors had been feeding the infection, which caused the rapid spread of the wounds and I was now only 98 pounds. She wanted to hospitalize me with an IV drip antibiotic, but I couldn't being a single mom, so I moved home wiht my parents and they took me to an infectious disease specialist. He did the culture again and also tested for possible rare disorders. His big concern was that it had gotten to a heart valve, which could quickly bring death. Also, my immune system had shut down and my red blood cell count was way too high. With all this considered, he began carefully treating with Erythromycin and doxy, but eventually we had to move up the intensity scale to I believe it was ciprofloxacin that finally knocked out the infection completely. Staph came back for months, but it wasn't resistant, only becuase it took time for my immune system to start functioning again. I gained back the weight over about 4 months. It was mostly new tissue and some healthy meat on the bones!! I've been able to begin working again, and only suffer mild infection from time to time, mostly when too stressed. I have scars, deep pitted, cratered, odd shaped ones, on areas of my arms, legs, genital area, but mostly my face was destroyed. The skin there is so sensitive, it just took over... that is the hardest thing to get used ot looking at it every day. But my son is almost 9 now and is just happy his mommy is alive and has no more "owies". I'm happy too! Definitely the alternative and herbal remedies don't work. I tried every single thing out there when I got fed up between doctors. I even went to China Town for therapies from 2 Chinese doctors directly for almost a year. Yeah, that was when I almost died. Please don't try to heal yourself, go to a professional and demand they test, treat and follow up. It's not all up the doctor, you have to take an active role in your own health and well-being. We know better than anyone else when something just isn't right in our own body. Thanks for reading, TRS.

I know what you mean about getting help from the medical profession. I had a friend who did not know she had MRSA and the first doctor gave her penicillin without running any tests. She was lucky enough to find a good doctor the second time that diagnosed her correctly. She now uses a product on all of her wounds and her families wounds that kills the infection on contact and keeps it from spreading to other members of her family.
I told them so

Those that prescribe or want antibiotics without first determining there is a BACTERIAL infection. Continue to promote the grow and spread of such "Supergerms" Any one that thinks they need an antibiotic should have the wound, sinus, sputum urine etc. cultured and reveiwed by a reputable lab and patho-microbiologist. This is natures way of eliminating the weak. There is a significant truth to "Survival of the fittest".

Please think twice before wanting an antibiotic. By all means ask your physician which bacteria they are want to treat with such antibiotic. If they cant answer it. Get a second opinion!

I had 8 surgies on my leg for MRSA. I should ave been dead. Had 4 drain tubes for 16 days. Leg swelled 3 times as usual. I make and drink colloidal silver. There is no doubtin my mind, if it wasn't for silver, I'd had a relapse.
Now, it's coming out of my skin, in kind of a cylindrical rod shape. It itches until I scratch it. It bleeds, I spray it with silver, and it heals.
Surgery was 8 months ago. It's so weird...
