I have Arnold Chiari Malformation. I have been given this drug to try to reduce the pressure in my head to give me some relief in the severe head pain I experience. What is your knowledge on this subject...

After the onset of severe headaches in December 2004, my daughter age 16 at the time, was diagnosed with Chiari malformation. She was started on Topomax but did not experience any relief. In October of 2005 she was started on Diamox. Her headaches never go away completely but she has definately experienced some relief with Diamox.

I had headaches for a long time, then started having memory failures. Finally they found the spinal fluid pressure too high. After reducing it and putting me on the Diamox the headaches are gone for the most part, but I am always tired from the sedative side effects. Stopped taking it two days ago and feel so good. But know I have to go back on it or find an alternative. Diagnosis was psuedo-tumor or something similar...whatever that is.

My grandmother has been diagnosed with Glaucoma and she has been prescribed Diamox: http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s3100-s-DIAMOX.asp... as treatment. But, I guess that the medication can be prescribed for different illness.
Concerning Arnold Chiari Malformation,it is said that:"Medications may ease certain symptoms, such as pain. Surgery is the only treatment available to correct functional disturbances or halt the progression of damage to the central nervous system. More than one surgery may be needed to treat the condition." |

I met someone who has a (now)12 year old daughter who took a natural treatment that worked for her and also someone she knows. Here is her email (copied and pasted) that she sent out. Contact me for more info....
I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas! As I look back over the past year, I am overwhelmed with how wonderful God has been to me and my family. To have the health of my daughter Sydney is priceless. She is a happy 11 (almost 12!) year old girl who is loving life. It is amazing how much she appreciates feeling good. Tomorrow morning she will wake up, enjoy seeing the presents under the tree and have a wonderful day full of laughs and love. She will be thankful for a loving God and that Jesus was sent to earth for us. Last year, she sat in my lap, crying, much of the day. I am so grateful. We, as humans, have the chance to participate in the miracle process. My friend Danielle did that for us by sharing this product. We can do the same. I look forward to a great year with all of you, changing lives through an amazing product and with a group of amazing people. We do have a couple of meetings this week! God Bless, Sarah contact me and I'll send you information if you are interested. I can put you in contact with Sarah and her daughter and even their neurologist, if you want proof. My email is agmacdonald@hotmail.com Merry Christmas to everyone! Aaron |

I have been taking Diamox for 15 years for severe headaches and chiari malformation. I had to continue it even after decompression surgery was unsuccessful at eliminating the headaches. I was then diagnosed with dysautonomia. I suffered for the better part of 12 years with low blood pressure and lightheadedness, exercise intolerance, basically being housebound. I was treated for dysautonomia unsuccessfully.
Recently, due to severe symptoms, I was referred for a second opinion with a cardiokogist. He blames the Diamox as a cause of the dysautonomia. I lost 12 years of my life because of the effects of this drug and the medical profession not picking up on it. I am now trying to wean off of it and hope it has not permanently done damage. I am having trouble with severe fluid retention and have been off of it for 3 weeks. |
