The county makes you pump out every five years, hows this going to help.Com e down Brays point, the trailor court drains theirs to the creek.A pipe their drains right to the creek. Sewer run over the curbs and runs down the side of street to the creek. The Health Dept. was paid off years ago. A few years ago they came and looked, said do not touch, but when he got back to his office itwas nothing wrong with it..

I'm curious where the $52,000 came from. My guess is that this money is not voluntarily contributions, but maybe I'm wrong.

If it is tax money, I'm not sure why these people are getting their septic tanks pumped out with OPM. I've always paid to have my septic tank pumped out and believe that others should do the same.

Jeez, instead of gossip, just call it in and follow up. If the health department won't take care of it, and if you're not pleased with your BOS rep, Ressler and Theberge are two of the best 'at large' reps who will hunt it down and kill it for ya!

Perhaps the reporter, who wrote the article, can explain where the $52,000 came from.

Why don't you research it before gossiping?

Actually, I am raising a question and not gossiping.

I called the reporter, who wrote the article, and left a voice mail message. He hasn't called me back.

Perhaps you are getting your septic tank pumped with OPM and are embarrassed at your socialistic tendencies. If you think that people from Nebraska should underwrite the cost of maintaining your septic tank, it reflects poorly on you.

It is good that you are embarrassed.

The research is being done to determine how septic effluent affects water quality in the bay. There is much accusation of septic systems but little research. So are you criticizing science? Are you criticizing people concerned about the environment? Are you just trying to make rumor? How else will the research get done? I don't think private industry is concerned about the Bay, tax dollars may be the only method available.

Reporters are THE WORST resource. Their only interest is in selling papers. The only info you'll get from them is an occasional 'reference', good luck. Why not go to the source yourself. You can do research, can't you?

Don't let the jerk who wrote the snotty post quoted above intimidate or discourage you. He enjoys butting into discussions among others, using different pseudonyms in the same thread to appear that he's a group of jerks. Don't bother trying to reason with him, because he's not here to discuss anything in good faith, only to try to bully people he doesn't know with childish sarcasm and insults. Notice I'm not addressing him directly. It's best not to do this, because attention -- negative, especially -- is all he really wants. Obviously he's getting some from me right now, but I know he'd prefer I address him directly. It's not worth the effort.

Starting out with x number of recently pumped septic tanks is good research design but unnecessary to promote a cleaner Bay.

Human nature being what it is, we prefer to study things to death rather than act on what we already know. Just look at how many "blue ribbon commissions" study Social Security and how best to fix it.

Regular septic tank service promotes their effectiveness. Research that enables us to measure their effectiveness to the fifth decimal place is silly and shouldn't be underwritten by the taxpayers until we have found some political will to act on what we already know.

As others have pointed out, if municipalities were required to have a moratorium on building permits until their water treatment facilities met federal standards, the citizens would demand that water treatment facilities be repaired so that they might build their additions, homes, etc.-- to the benefit of the Bay.

This is all common sense, and we don't need government workers in kayaks with test tubes and corks paddling up and down Sarah Creek.

I didn't believe it until sailing the lower Bay last year, but the Bay is 90% DEAD! Could there be better ways of gathering information? Probably. Why don't you get involved and fix it? Instead of intellectualizing and criticizing, you could actualize!
