This may be the most outrageous plan I have ever heard. Embarrassing enough that your city is broke but to tout this soda tax as a great idea is much more embarrassing. You are lying to your citizens saying this will make everyone healthy and thin. Your citizens are fat because of lack of exercise due to third world conditions of city parks, lack of public pools and bicycle lanes, and video games / television. I drink soda every day and I drink a lot. I have a 29 inch waist. It's not the soda...stupid. It's lack of exercise. Anyways I thought caffeine was supposedly good for protecting against melanoma. Or is only Starbuck's caffeine healthy? Somehow coffee gets a free pass? El Monte needs to grow a brain.

While i agree that obesity is a problem due to lack of exercise and a poor dietary lifetyle I dont agree that all citizens of el monte are obese. My stand on the whole soda tax thing. Its not the worst idea ive ever heard..The city is trying to find a way to stay afloat and bring in monetary revenue to make the city grow.To make the citizens life better.

A Soda Drink Tax? What a stupid idea from our outrageously overweight Mayir and Council! They all need to look in the mirror, lose at least 100 pounds each, and then seek to criticize is normal, non- fat residents. As for Chief Armstrong' s $425k salary, Andrew, Jay, and Norma voted for it.

Why not have a city fat tax? We can have scales in various sites & weigh all residents and visitors? We could charge ten cents per pound of overweight. Our mayor and city council would bring in mucho dinero with their excess tonnage.

These greedy career politicians are just trying to secure there jobs and pentions. It ridiculous, they damn well now that people are not going to stop buying soda just because it is going to cost them a few cents more. They don't care for people's health they want the tax money. Dirt bags

I never stated it was their best idea.I simply offered my opinion that it wasnt the worst tax ive heard of. To state that noone likes taxes is an understatement. And yes the council does need to look at themselves also before spouting" live healthier lifestyles and obesity is a problem" The fact remains they have inherited money problems from past council members as well as by their own actions. The whole el monte city transit village now el monte gateway project has had a tremendous impact on our financial stability as a city.If this so called soda tax helps i dont necessarily regard it as a major problem. There are much more important issues such as keeping our city alive, securing jobs, making sure the council is held accountable for their actions, saftey, and making a brighter future for those still willing to stand here and fight for that said future. The american dream always comes with a price and taxes have always been part of that price.greedy poloticians the other.I choose to remain optomistic about the citys future.

Our hefty, overstuffed mayordomo and city council blimps have weighed in regarding a tax on sodas.
Unlike "Citizen," I prefer to run my own life snd not submit to Nanny Government busy bodies, like our local pollutiticians.
Taxes? Revolt against overtaxation led to our revolution. A glaring example of absolute abuse and greed is the "TOASTER" TAX at Subway.
They charge 80 cents tax to toast a sandwich. Sure stupidity.
Let's have a Tea Party and invite our Mad Hatter Mayor and Council.
Finally, Andrew Quintero has already RSVPeed for a calorie-rich Funraiser for Eddie Chowhounds bid for the Assembly. Why can' t Andrew forego the food, booze, donuts, and booze and donate the $125food to our town.
Andrew can take up a collection there a and pass the hat among all the so-called honorables, like Eng, Chu, et al.
Makes dollars and cents totax me!

With pharmacutical drugs like mind drugs given to children you can expect weight gain. 40 to 50 pounds in the first week. Then you have the Statin drugs that not only cause memory loss and muscle astrophy it destroys the metabolism and forever the person will have weight problems.
The profit of diets with new drugs for the pharmacutical industry is lucrative. Good investment just like the Statin drugs that made billions and killed millions before their time or the mind drugs in dumbifying America and other nations for the Republican New World Order.
The swelling of America's belly like other countries is the mind drugs for political reasons.

Welcome to the life styles of the rich and shameless. Our first adventure will be at the fabulous mansion of Santos Hernandez, located just off of Roseglen St. And Rodeo Drive. Just kidding Holmes.
