Luke.. i was wondering if you continued the Accutane and what side effects you have at the moment. My son has taken Isotretinoin and it has Ruined his life. He has just turned 18 and has no life now and since taking this 16 months ago. This drug is Poision... my son has no diagnosis and will not take medicines and is suffering with Pain on a daily basis

thread reviver wrote: well its 2012 now, accutane is said be taken off the shelf in the US. Im still not sure what to make of this. I've started taking accutane, 3 days so far, but im still doing research. Now, for anyone who has taken accutane, and showed back side effects; can you tell me if you TRULY think you drank enough water during your treatment, didn't drink alcohol, and ate a somewhat less grease diet? I ask because i have a theory that says that most people who did get the bad side effects werent drinking enough water, for the most part, and were eating an unhealthy diet. On the other end, is there anyone that has had a healthy pass through this, with years after having used it, remember what they might have been doing to make the side effects less likely? The answer could help thousands. Check out prescription drug info ..longterm side effects of Accutane and you will find plenty of bad reports. THIS IS A CHEMOTHERAPY DRUG. It was designed for Pancreatic Cancer and Brain Tumours !

I am having severe joint pains and I'm wondering if it is due to the meds or something else. Anyone else having ankle and elbow issues (sounds weird, but it hurts)? Liz, This is my 2nd time being on acutane.Last year I had bad acne & got on acutane. The 1st time I was on it my acne cleared up really fast.By the 5th month I was very pleased with the results. But I did have bad side effects & these were chapped lips, sensitive skin(I had a hard time washing my face without it burning or becoming irritated), my lower back hurt most of the time, & I sometimes became really depressed.I don't blame the drug for depression that much though because it's not really a side effect; I consider it as a person being emotional...I am now on my 2nd round because my acne came back again, so I was a bit disappointed about that..but this time, my skin isn't as sensitive & the only side effect I get is my lower back aching.my acne is cleared up again, so hopefully it won't come back when I get off the drug.

Hi everybody,
This is my sixth and last month of Accutane and before I would only get red if I was embarrased.I started out on 40mg twice a day, but because of the severity of the redness I cut down to 40mg once a day. I get red if someone talks to me, if i talk, pretty much whenever my face feels like it. I hate it so much. I always feel like my face is sweating and always feel hot. I never feel it unless I am in front of the air conditioner or in a cooled climate. This is the worst side effect for me, the dryness and chapped lips was not so bad it went away after while. I just hope this ends after I get off the drug which is less than a month away so excited! If anybody has any questions about the Accutane journey feel free to ask.

Hi everyone,
I had real bad acne all my life, had it from age 12 and I am now 26 years old. It affected my confidence in many ways and ultimately has played a role in shaping my character.
I was on antibiotics for a long period of time but this acne ( real painful in some areas) would still come back. I decided enough was enough and went on roaccutane. It was painful during the first few weeks and I have had a great deal of side effects. Just about to start my 3rd month and my skin is beautifully clear. I am very tired, quite sore on the lips, suffer from very bad itching and blurry eyes.I also get noise bleeds and red faced a lot. The min time you can be on this with a near enough guaranteed chance of it working is 4 months. So even though my skin is clear now I still have to suffer through for the next 2 months.
I do recommend anyone who is frequently unhappy to take this drug. It can leave you feeling quite ugly and alone. And possibly more self conscious than ever before. I am hoping it is all going to be worth it and I can stop taking it in another 2 months. I am hoping all the dryness, tiredness and other nasty stuff clears up quickly after I stop taking it.
Thanks, bets of luck.

Keep in mind, people who are reading this and deciding whether or not to take the drug, that many MANY people have tried it. It is the people who were not happy about the results who usually go to post about it. For every 1 person who says you get depressed from it, there are hundreds who were amazed by the results. Usually, patients who are considering taking it are already predisposed to depression due to self-confidence issues brought on by acne. For about 99.2 percent of people who took the drug, the only side effect was dryness and loss of acne.
Always talk to your dermatologist before taking any prescription drug, and if you are simply going to a doctor for a prescription, seriously consider seeing a profession dermatologist as they will be able to accurately and more completely advise you on how to get rid of the type of acne that you have.

I took accutane about 20 years ago. The results were fantastic, my skin was perfect. The results lasted for about 12 years before I started to get odd bouts of acne again and in the last 2 or 3 years it has become severe. I have decided to take accutane again. Obviously I am concerned about potential side effects but have to say I had no serious side effects whatsoever the 1st time. None at the time I was taking the tablets and none for 20 years afterwards. I can therefore say confidently that while I don't doubt some people do suffer from side effects it certainly does not effect everyone.

took accutane as a teenager and it changed my life for the better...I've had none of these side effects that are sometimes reported. My nephew and best friend also took accutane and couldn't be any happier with the results...I'm not depressed, I don't have joint pains or headaches or whatever else is being reported.

Hey everybody,
I have been on Accutane for 3 months now and to begin with I have had the usual side effects, dry skin lips etc. but about 10 days ago I got a small round patch on my ankle with a red dot in it. The leaflet mentions erythema multiforme which sound similar to this. I got it checked out by the doctor as I was due to go on holiday and they said it doesn't look like anything to be worried about at that point. The round patch has disappeared but there is a small red blister in its place (which itches like mad at times). I only have 1 and feel fine in myself. Has anybody else had anything similar to this?

Ok i took accutane for 6mths 6yrs ago, my skin was great for a year or so however ever since taking accutane ive had a multitude of problems, the worst being chronic back and muscle pain. I have terribly dry, thin and irritable skin. I have dry eyes, lips, sinuses and dry ithcy scalp. Accutane causes severe latent side effects some of which may not show for years after treatment. Do not risk your health by taking this poison. Just not worth it!!!

Acne destroyed my life. It started when I reached puberty (at the age of 14) and the sex hormones kicked in. Maybe I am too much of a perfectionist to accept bad skin. I just want a normal, disease-free skin, and acne is a disease. I don't want to hear that we (the acne sufferers) have to live with this disease till it clears up by itself eventually. We live in a world when being perfect is almost a basic requirement, and having bad skin puts you just down, I mean looking in the mirror in the morning , and being disgusted by ones own face ! that just sucks ! I mean we are all under stress and the last thing we need in the morning when we go to school or work is a greeting by those pimples! those pimples are our biggest fans I suppose lol. Well, i rather have other "fans". Because of those pimples I never had a beautiful girlfriend, actually I never had any girlfriend, cause Iam just too ashamed. If I was a girl, i wouldn't like to kiss me, a guy with acne - and vice verse. So I lost many quality years of my life due to this disease nobody has found a cure for yet! We are 6 billion people on earth, we do so many things, but how come we cant get rid of this disease `? Is it bad genes? bad diet ? lack of exercise? from everything a bit possibly. Please scientists, work hard and find a cure, and people don't forget to ask G-d, the Almighty, for help too. Anyway, I want you to know that taking this med is not going to cure acne in the long run. Maybe in the short term, but considering the side effects and the chances of reoccurring acne later on, it's not worth the risk, unless you want to make those stock holders of those pharmaceutical companies that produce this drug happy.
Keep fighting !

I started taking Roaccutane (which is what it's called here) when I was about 12, after trying two other drugs and every cream under the sun. I remeber it was a pretty hardcore decision at the time, since I was so young, and I got pretty freaked out when I read the list of side effects as long as my arm, it was pretty intimidating. But then again so were the massive cysts on my face, so it was an easy decision at the beginning.
Thankfully I had a pretty good experience, pretty much the only side effect I remember was the sweating, which I didn't connect at the time, and I had some problems with it screwing with the oil glands all over my body. My skin got massively dry all along my arms and legs, lips of course. My hair never got oliy at all, I remember once forgetting to wash it for a couple of weeks (:O) and it didn't change at all. It just sucked all of the oil and moisture out of my skin, so it helped with the acne at least.:)
Possibly the reason the side effects weren't so severe is that the dosage I was given was lower, but my older sister just came off it recently as well and she'd never reported anything in the way of side effects.
For me starting this drug stemmed from somehting hinging on desperation, my skin was awful, and when you're 12 most people don't have much in the way of acne, so I got heaps of crap about it from other people as well as myself. It was completely non-responsive to anything else and I was willing to try anything.
By the by, I discovered this thread because I'm re-researching Roaccutane because I'm considering going back on it, a good 5 years later, since my acne is rearing its head again.:( It's not as bad as before, just really stubborn.
I guess the main thing I've got from this is that side effects will alays be different for everyone. Good luck to everyone looking at starting this drug, or already using it!
