I'm not a fan of this article. I can't answer for the rest of the medication listed, but I started Wellbutrin about a year ago, and I can't believe how much it has helped me.

Yes, there are side effects. When I first started taking it I was anxious, moody, restless, and irritable. I did not feel well. However, it takes your body a few weeks to adjust.

One day, about 3 weeks into treatment, they just stopped. I felt NORMAL. I still feel that way. I did lose weight taking this product, but that was no problem for me, and I haven't had any trouble keeping my weight up. There are still some side effects: my hands shake slightly. Big deal!

Before, I was so depressed that there were days I couldn't leave my room. This doesn't happen anymore. If the cost of that is a nearly unnoticeable tremor, well, I. Don't. Care.

Antidepressants aren't the complete solution, but they can really help you turn your life around. I think that this article, while biased, provides some useful information, but I would hate to think of it turning someone off of the idea of taking these medications when they could really use the help.

You must be the exception and only represent a small amount of people. mainly yourself. The drug is dangerous and has a history. The drug doesn't work the way you disscribe for withdrawal..

Let's look into the other mind altering drugs. How about the abundency of heart medication that kills , maims and destroys lives or fat n's up the patient for the dieticians in America. What about the lie of the Statin drugs... How about lorazepam to calm the nerves keep the blood pressure down that is addictive or keep the person from getting angry or getting the so called "depression". What about the pain pills. Pain is known to increase blood pressure and we can't have that with arteries from the legs just cemented in to by pass the normal blood flow arteries in the heart. What about lisinopril and the mind affecting substance or Metoprolol? What about the catastrophic problem of having a cartiologist with narrow or corrupted insight raising the amount of the prescription to create future addiction or damage to the heart or other organs of the body for a few extra bucks? How about the psychiatrist roaming around with his / her bag of dirty tricks to bilk the insurance company or the government programs.

There are a lot of problems with psychoactive medications, but they are certainly worth it for patients suffering severe symptoms.

The reason that the treatment doesn't work for everyone is that most medications were discovered serendipitously. Since we lack a complete understanding of the biological nature of mental illness, most pharmaceuticals are made by trial-and-error (more or less). Until we have a better understanding of these illnesses, our antidepressants will not work anymore effectively, they will just have less side effects.
