I would like to clear up and inform some of you who aren't familiar with salvia. first of all, u need to be 18 years if age to purchase salvia. And don't ever think you are hearing truth about this drug through the news. This report isn't as bad as the other news' reports, the other ones say that "anyone of any age can purchase it". That is bs. Salvia is a strong natural herb. It has warnings on every website and package making sure the consumer knows of its strenght. It is also sold as an incense, not as a smokable. The intense trip lasts about 2 or 5 minutes, but there are slight after effects for the following 30 to 45 minutes. The so called "drug" divinorum a (active mind altering product in salvia) triggers the same part of the brain that processes dreams. You are not fully conscious during this time span of a few minutes. But this is not really dangerous if you have someone to watch over you (as instructed in the directions of the salvia burning process). Please do research and don't choose sides against this plant. It has no bad side affects and certainly does not bring depression, it simply lets you explore your unconscious mind. SALVIA IS A VERY VERY STRONG PLANT USE WITH GREAT CAUTION AND FOR THE RIGHT REASONS. Thank you

R.I.P. Brett Chidester

well someone who is having an out of body experience wont be able to drive anyway so dont worry about it. and alos the the hallucination only lasts about 5-15 minutes. i think its worst what the evangelists are doing to kids than what salvia will do to high school students

I think it's disgusting that this is the first google result for "salvia news" and that the headline describes it as "dangerous" even though no where in the article does the writer support this loaded claim.

And I know from being around people on salvia that there's no way they could even get a vehicle out of a driveway.

And I find it funny that they didnt focus this article on that acne crap "that has been linked to depression" but instead on a plant that has never been shown to have any harmful psychological effects.

And lastly, this article was posted 2 years ago, and yet the only two comments are from this month. My suspicion is that someone is deleting all the comments because every one of them contradicts the entire news article. I'll be checking back.

Why bother getting salvia outlawed when there is obviously no proof that it had anything to do with his suicide? Get some scientific facts in here, for christ's sakes.

Oh, and:

"Brett was using a prescription acne medication that has been linked to depression."

If you truly loved your son, Mrs. Chidester, you wouldn't have let your damn son use ACNE (a minor problem) medication that is linked to fucking depression. How stupid are you?!

There are so many other reasons for a person to commit suicide. According to this article, I see no proof at all that salvia had anything to do with it. It was most likely the shit he went through in school and the stress of maintaining A's in school. That sounds much more likely to me.

""I, for one, don't want to be driving down Route 1 next to someone who is having an out-of-body experience," Peterson said."

LOL! Honestly. You people.

Either this article is written poorly with very little detail about WHY or HOW salvia contributed to his suicide or you are all full of bullshit and have no proof at all.

I'm outraged at how stupid this article is.... I've never done salvia, but I know enough about it to see that this article MIGHT JUST BE BULLSHIT. God, forbid.

Oh PLEASE! The Salvia was not the problem here and this is just ridiculous to focus on it. If he had been drinking alcohol would his mom want that banned as well? How about the prescription drugs in her medicine cabinet that he could have abused.

It's not the gun or the drug it is the PERSON who uses them incorrectly who is responsible. For crying out loud you can die from drinking too much water too!!!!!!
