Hey Rob,

From the videos I've seen online, the volcano still produces a pretty smoky vapor. I would say try a standard whip based vaporizer. when I use mine, I don't see a wisp of smoke because you are able to control the temp by the speed of your draw and by removing the whip from the heat source.

Im 23 and have CF have been smoking cannabis for almost 10 years, iam considered by my doctor to be healthier than most CF patients he see's, the longest i been without pot is around 6-8 months, now days its one smoke every two weeks or so sometimes more, my lung function has gradually dropped it used to be very good but it has gone down , i searched this thread because im looking at buying a vaporizer and i wanted to know what effect weed has on CF sufferers, im not sure why my lung function has gone down but iam not as active (physically) as i should be or used to be , i.e aerobic exercise etc etc, after reading most of this post i think i will try a vaporizer (and probably more exercise lol), i read on wikipedia that THC is a "A mucolytic agent or expectorant" why basically means it dissolves mucus, generally from my experience i would say that smoking weed does put more mucus on my lungs, the day after smoking i get alot of mucus and i cough up a fair bit, but during the long break i had my mucus was generally less than when i was smoking, i haven't discussed it with my doctor though i did tell him once that i smoked weed and did other kinds of drugs for a while, he wasn't really surprised at all, like others in this thread i think that its natural for people who suffer from chronic diseases to want to "get fucked up" to just forget about everything....im not sure how CF and smoking weed affects me but i think i'll try the vaporizer and see. Anyway its a surprise to see how many CF people actually smoke/vaporize i thought i was the only one HAHA anyway good luck to all CF sufferers out there! And lets hope a cure comes along soon :)

Alex,

I'm glad to hear that you're coming off the blunts and bongs and reaching for some brownies and the vaporizer instead. Respect those 100% pfts dude. They don't last forever and the absolute least we can do to take care of ourselves is not cause more destruction to our bodies than we already have to live through.

I'm also in cali. I just got my card a few months ago. I don't know what the legalities are for someone under 18. You may have to wait until you turn 18, but CF alone is a certified condition. I got my card through one of the more well known evaluation centers and they asked for some sort of documentation that I was a cf patient. I had a recent note from my doc clearing me to go back to work that listed cf as my diagnosis and it was good for a year.

To all who are interested (and have the means) I encourage you to get a card. I'm not saying start using pot if you don't already. I am saying that if you use pot, do it as legally as possible. On a social scale, good dispensaries tend to use locally grown medications by other legal patients, and do not support violent grow or trafficking operations. Probably more important to most of us however, the meds available at dispensaries tend to be grown without the use of very dangerous pesticides and chemical fertilizers. More information about the growing conditions of these meds is available so you can make informed decisions about what you are putting into your body.

Hey everyone- To anyone still following this thread, or to anyone new who's come across the subject; I'm working at finding out the answer for myself. I'm 18 years old with cystic fibrosis, and currently researching the effects of cannabis in those with CF.

Follow me on my blog, it's new so give me time to add posts but I'd love some comments or feedback.

I want to know where and how much a vaporizer costs??? I need to switch to it. The weed helps me with my arthritis pain, my cf, appetite, etc. It works like a bronchodialator but I do not want to smoke it so I need to find out how to find a vaporizer
It is legal in Michigan for medicinal purposes so I cold get a presecription if I get a vaporizer

@ cfadult40,

easiest way to buy one is online, just google it and you'll come up with a variety of options.

Not sure about the states, but here in Canada you can get a decent quality vape for about $160. I got mine from Vapor Bros and it's worked great for about a year now, I'm sure they sell in the US as well.

Hope you find everything alright,
-Ryan

Any of your local head shops will have them. Do some research online first. Decent vaporizers aren't exactly cheap. They'll range from $150 to $300 with one model "the volcano" costing more than my first car did. The car was $250, the volcano is over $500. I don't know about you, but thats more technology than I need to warm up some dried herbs. On the low end of the spectrum, stay away from the ones that look like an upside down fishbowl on top of a soldering iron. You'll want something with some kind of heat control (either manual or automatic). As you do some research, you'll find some brand names and style types. Stick with some of the more popular when you go shopping.

happy vap'ing.

I have recently used a top-quality vaporizer, and I find it benefits my lungs. I can breath easier. I keep track of my O2 Saturation, since I have very poor lung function (less than 30%).

My CF Doc prescribed it for me to stimulate my appeitite. I discovered that Indica strains seem to make me more hungry, whereas Sativa doesn't. Both seem to benefit the lungs. Long term data would be nice.

I have read that THC may have an anti-inflammatory effect on the lungs. I would appreciate more research. Imagine if it is better than Pulmi etc.!

oops, just realized I forgot to mention (no, I am not 'under the influence'!) that my O2 Sat which is normally at @93, I can get to 97 when I breath with purpose while 'high'. 95 is my normal max with best efforts while not.

Jose,
Vaping MJ, just like every other medication or drug is going to have some kind of trade off. Yes, it does seem to open up your lungs for a bit, and it takes a little of the stress away for a few hours, and it makes us hungry and is usually a good time as well. I won't say don't do it, but if you're nervous about it for any reason, then look for something makes makes you more comfortable. Have you tried doing stuff that takes your mind off things? Ride a bike, learn to play guitar, or paint or something. There are tons of avenues to try first, and if none of them work, this option will always be there if you need it.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Gemini

It's easy to become distracted and confused because your mind is wandering about in all sorts of different directions. You're also in a highly impressionable state so will believe almost anything you're told now, whether it's true or a total flight of fancy. Be wary of muddling others by only telling them half the story or letting your imagination fill in any gaps.
