The drug Colazal that my doctor prescribed for my ulcerative colitis does work and has helped me to manage the symptoms of the disease.

Recently I was given the generic version of Colazal.

IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!!!

Fortunately, my excellent doctor called my pharmacy and specified that I receive the prescription for the Colazal. I am now on that drug, and the symptoms are under control now.

The Balsalazide did not work for me. I understand from personnel in my doctor's office, that many people have declared that the generic version, Balsalazide, did not work for them either.

It is a failure. It should be removed from the market. No one should be suckered into thinking that "it's the same thing as the Colazal"

Because it is NOT!

I am probably reading your comment few months late. Have been on the generic for the last 5 months, just because I couldnt afford Colazal anymore. The generic is far from effective and all my symptoms, suffering have come back full force.
If you get to read this, did reverting back to Colazal give back longer remission.
Cheers

Several months ago the magazine called "The Inside Tract" published by the Canadian Society for Intestinal Research published an article warning about the use of generics in treating colitis. It said that the coating on the generics often dissolve at the wrong place in the digestive system and then you wonder why you get worse! The generics are often made in third world countries where the supervision is lax and they are not as good as the name brand drugs.

Many drug companies have assistance programs for persons who need to take their drugs but are unable to afford them. I would defintely contact the maker of Colazal and find out if they have such a program and ask how to apply. I take Lialda and Canassa and I recently inquired as to how much my insurer is paying for my meds and found out it is a whopping 6 grand a year just for those 2. And that is at the discounted rate they get cause of volume. I am self employed and pay my own medical insurance premiums.

The makers of Colazal now have a coupon that is good through March which is good for up to $900 on monthly refills of Colazal. Go to www.salix.com . The coupon in on the home page of the website. It is helping my daughter stay on this medicine while we fight with our insurer about not using the generic.

I pray this generic works for me, because I can't afford colazal anymore. I have been on colazal since 2000 and the price gets higher every month. Last refill 427.00

I have used colozal for many years and due to the high price I have gone on and off it. Colozal has always worked great for me but the monthly bill was killing me.I tried the generic and I have found no difference. It is working great and a great savings as well. I use the generic from Mylan Labs. It is made in USA. I'm sorry the generic has not worked for the others. UC is a daily struggle and has been for me the last 15 years. Good Luck!

I takea generic formof the drug from Roxane Lab in Ohio. I have a mild case of UC and was diagnosed in 2004. I have seen no difference in the generic drug. In fact Iam only taking it twice a day instead of three times with colazal under my doctor's suggestion and I have been fine. Maybe effectiveness varies with severity of disease
