Just wanted to see if anybody else who is on methadone for chronic pain and also takes 800 mg Motrin 3x per day has noticed any hot flashes. I am a 51 year old male and I have been having terrible hot flashes which last 10 to 15 minutes at a time.
Also, has anyone been watching the Anna Nicole death news? Ity seems like they are all saying the only people who take methadone are addicts who want to get high? Will anyone set them straight on this?

i'm on methadone for pain. i had a hysterectomy when i was 23, i'm now 31 and have been on methadone for, about 3 years. i flipped a car on the highway and ripped my the bones out of my right leg from my knee down. and broke my back. i have also been having hot flashes, for at least the last 1 - 1 1/2 years. but i thought it was the hysterectomy. i will say, i hate these pills. why anyone would want to take them for the down deppressed uuggghhh feeling is beyond me. sometimes they don't make me sick, and that is when they work for my pain. when they do make me sick i hurt all over. what i need to understand is, if they put us on them for pain it is to get us off the pills we were on, then we're suppose to go to something called, suboxen, or something like that. it has less pain killer so we will get off the methedone. WELL HELLO CRACKHEADS, what about us that take pills cuz we truly hurt. this is where abuse kicks in, less pain killer = more pills taken to stop hurting. stop trying to find things to help your poor deppressed life seem better (by being high) so the people who really need it don't lose it. shoot go to church or something. take care

Hi, I am also on methadone for chronic pain and take advil. I have been having bad hot flashes some last a while some only afew seconds. I am only 23 and have been on narcotic pain meds since 2004. I was on vicodin till this jan. My doc cut me off saying I was just adicted, my pain has been hard to prove cause, I went 2 days with nothing I was also on adivan 4mg a day went off that all of a sudden too. I went to my doc telling him I was going to die and he said he wouldn't help me, I refused to leave with being put in hospital, I was scared! Then I had a seizer in the waiting room and cardiac arrest in ambalance! I was put in hospital and given methadone. For some reason they have me on 40mg a day! I thought that was normal untill I joined a chronic pain group class and everyone else is on 2.5mg or 5mg. Would like to know your thoughts.

I am also on Methadone for chronic pain. I have 5 ruptured discs in my lower back. I am on 40mg a day, which is down from 60mg a day. I also experience the hot flashes and can't stand them. Pain is different for everyone. I also take Percocet for breakthrough pain. Its a lot of drugs and I can't stand it but to be honest it is the only thing that has worked. I was on Fentynal and Oxycontin and those were horrible. The Fentynal made me comatose and the Oxy just wore off too quick. I would question why the people on the lower doses really need the methadone. Are they on something else? At that level, they are not treating chronic pain. It seems more like acute pain. Hang in there. It gets better.

I am a 32 YO FEMALE and have lupus and am on Methadone, I also experience "Hot Flashes", Yes I have followed the Anna Nicole story. I am afraid that they are going to freak out about Methadone and treat it like they now treat oxycontin!! Methadone is the only pain medication that has worked for me. There are two different types of people who are on Methadone, those who ARE addicts and those who suffer from chronic pain.

Dennis, I am not using motrin but I am on methadone, when I was on a higher dose (90-120mg) a day I constantly had hot flashes. I would just start sweating out of nowhere or the slightest activity. I am now on 40mg a day and the hotflashes have stopped. As for the Anna Nicole situation I think the media handled it poorly. Methadone saved my life. I was taking up to 100mg of hydrocodone a day for pain as well as keeping from withdrawl. Once I started on the Methadone I was able to re-asses my pain as well as break very bad habits. Now I take my meds once a day even if I am in a moderate amount of pain. When Anna died and methadone was getting such bad press I was terrified that my doctor would be leary about continuing prescribing to me. Thank God that did not happen. Methadone alone does not kill(she and her son had other drugs in their systems)I believe they gave it to her when she was pregnant which I have heard is a safe alternative to stronger narcotics as opposed to withdrawl. As with any drug people will abuse it. Those of us who are on it to stay away from dangerous narcotics I truly believe are safe. I have been taking methadone for 9 years.

I have serious chronic nerve pain from spinal nerve root damage and take high doses of Oxycodone and Lyrica.
The relief is far from adaquate and I am considering Methadone..It seems to have some promise from my reads online.

I was on a cocktail of Oxycodon and Percocet 3 a day for each for a total 6 pills. My doctor moved and I got with a new doc who perscribed Methadone 10mg 4x day. It works man! I've had 6 knee operations on both my knees all unsuccesful, but as soon as i got on Methadone it worked! I've been taking 40mg a day for 2 years with no side effects and as I understand you can take it for the rest of your life, it does not affect your liver live any Hydocodone because they all contain Tylenol, I don't know why but I've hear that your liver can only handel 2000 mg of Tylenol a day before your enzymes will be elevated and soon your kidneys will also be affected and then total shut down and bing your dead! Now Lorecet is basically Vicoden with 650mg of Tylenol, do the math take more than 3 and 1/2 a day and your fucked. Methadone on the other hand does not affect your liver in any way.

I have been on Methadone for over a year now. I started taking narcotics almost 10 years ago and have gone throug the roller coaster that all long term pain relief paitents go through. I took Oxycontin for almost 3 years and almost committed suicide. I started seeing a new doctor and I requested he go "cold turkey" with me because I was sick of living my life waiting for the next pill. He refused, telling me without something I wouldn't be able to get out of bed much less live even a semi-normal life. He prescribed me Methadone and my life is completly turned around. I take 160mgs a day, high compared to some of the other posts, but that's compared to 7-8 40mg Oxycontins and 3-4 20 mg Oxycontins per day. I cannot be any more thankful for the change. I have found my pain some days is very debilitating but I'm no longer a slave to a prescription and I can live with the pain I still have. So YES it works and YES I would recommend it IF you are someone who will be on narcoits for a long period of time.

hey david,I don't know if you are aware of this but I have never even heard of doses as low as the ones they talk about here.It is common practice to start a drug dependent pain patient on 30mg single dose and raise it to the working dose 5 to 10mg at a time.I am on 110mg single dose daily and my wife is on 130mg daily.I know many people in the pain community on both higher and lower doses. It all depends on your body and the only real way to tell if your dose is to high is a peak and trough test.I spoke to a federal regulator two years ago and he told me the highest dose he knew of was a lifetime heroin addict in his 70's who took 3000(thousand)mg daily.Don't treat your brothers and sisters badly because of your lack of knowledge.edu cate yourself.

Methadone saved my life too. But I'm moving to Puerto Rico and I don't know if they are advanced enough on chronic and will consider me a drug user and not be able to get my meds. It is a good pain killer, though.

I take 40-60mg of methadone a day and have been for quite some time,I dont think it matters the dosage you take I think everyone experiences some kind of side effect !! I have been on much higher doses in past years and I take it for chronic pain but anyway ,even though i'm down to 40-60 mg a day i dtill get hot flashes, constipatation among a few others,I dont think it ever stops completely, just when you think it's over you'll break out in a godawful hot flash sweating like you just ran 2 miles in 100 dagree weather !as far as it helping my pain it does. It never has tken away all my pain but at least now its at a tolerable level,I still hurt soooo bad but imagine if i did'nt have it what would my life be like then. To make a long story short even though i dont like takeing methadone it gets me through where everything else has failedand the only other thing is that my pain doctor is a fucking bitch!!!!!!!

Can anyone please tell me anything they can about how methadone and oxycontin are. A description of the pros and cons of both , how they make one feel, strength, duration, anything. I have taken plenty of morphine sulfate and hydrocodone but i've never tried OC or methadone. How do they compare to what ive tried.

Yep. I get those hot flashes every day since being on methadone. It's the only thing I really hate about the drug. It can be really hard.

I am now taking oxycontin 4/80 mgs and 4/30mgs
oxycondone a day, and I still hurt all of the time, and hate it. My doctor is going to start
me on methadone next month, and from what all I've read here, I'm feeling a little better about it...I was pretty scared to change, but I have to do something!!! When you take the methadone, do
you still need to take the breakthrough meds too? Thanks to all of you for posting, it has helped a lot...

Dennis well my mom is 52 years old and she is a concer patient that takes methadone. It is not really all about the getting high it is about the high you get to get rid of the pain you feel. The getting high was a side effect of taking the meds some people do not like to feel like that but get use to it. It's not like they asked for Methadone, they were perscribed you can't talk about people when the doctor prescribes meds that are habit forming...Good luck to you and God Bless You!!!!
