I've had this pain in the area of the spleen for several years also. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia also, but I have other pain issues. This pain is different and I've had it much longer than everythinng else. I had my lungs, heart and who knows what else a few years back. Just went for a new sonigram. it is getting so bad.

I get naesous and feel as if im going to vomit, i also have sweats and i get very hot. the only thing that seems to make it go away is something very cold like an ice pack or a very cold wash cloths set on my upper left abdomin. Hi everyone. I am having severe pain under my left breast, above my rib cage. I'm in a lot of pain. It's been consistant for 3 days now. When i turn my torso around - like getting something out of the back seat of my car - I get immediately dizzy and almost pass out. The pain under my breast is HORRIBLE and unbearable. I've had this pain before and I had an endoscopy done about 2 years ago and they found nothing. This pain is back and I just can't take it. Also, when I lay down or stand up my heart starts pumping really, really hard and it almost takes my breathe away. Anyone know what this could be? I'm scared.

Most pains resolve themselves with a little aid from natural therapies, a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle. The Human body is built to recover by itself. Healthy diet does not mean eating raw vegetables or salads (Include Pavel Yogurt, probiotics, fruits, Cheese, lentils and rice. Leave out milk for a start).

A Healthy lifestyle includes walking a few miles every week.

As many of us can testify, doctor visits result in lots of tests & some times a diagnois, but sledom in any sustainable meaningful treatment. Specialists believe they are required to bring down pain and show quick results. They tend to neglect long term effects.

I'm 16 years old. Much too young to have major medical problems..
However, for quite a while on and off I've been experiencing this pain inside of my rib cage to the upper left. It sometimes hurts when I do nothing and if it doesn't then it hurts when I laugh or take a deep breath. The only organ I could pinpoint to my area was my spleen. I looked up spleen pains and found that people with an expanded spleen had very similar symptoms. Could I have an expanded spleen? If so, what would have causes it?

My daughters have pain in the same area as you and it seems to be something to do with the pill as the problem seems to go away when they are not on the pill, the doctor agreed that it may be from the pill??

Be careful with this, get it checked out and ask for a cat scan don't let them fob you off with an ultra sound, tell them to check for lymphoma just to be on the safe side, it is probably just something small but best to get it looked at

I have been dealing with left side discomfort beneath the rib cage for 2 -1/2 years. My family doc did some x-rays and ultrasound about 2 yrs ago and said that since nothing showed up, it must not be "life threatening." Maybe the condition wasn 't at a stage where it could be diagnosed then. I really think my doctor feels I am making this up or exaggerating the level of pain. If you have this -- you know how horrible your feel! Anyone had luck with going to an endocrinologist or could you suggest a different specialty to get a diagnosis? Thanks.

Anyone had any luck with either a chiropractor or acupuncture for this pain? If you cup your hand and place your fingers beneath your left rib cage, that's where my pain is -- though it does radiate to the back as well. Sometimes I can't tell if the pain is in the rib cage itself -- or an internal organ behind it. Maybe its musculoskeletal? Doctor said just two days ago that it appears as "bony pain" for "no apparent reason." Any thoughts on that possibility?

After a bout of this pain for several months a couple years ago, it's back and even more fierce since I took a bad hit in ice hockey. I saw the doc, and he said it was just a soft tissue injury, so he prescribed me 2400mg of ibuprofen per day. Now, I'm still in tons of pain and trying to decide when might be the time to pull the trigger on the E.R.

I've also been dealing with pleurisy and acid reflux for years.

There does seem to be a correlation with acid reflux and the left-sided pain for some of us. I ended up going back on Prilosec, 1 x day ... and taking taking one Aleve per day for reducing the internal inflammation/itching feeling, has seemed to made me feel at least 50% better.
Recently I discovered that I do have a hiatal hernia which my doc had not disclosed to me back in 2008 -- hence I underwent lots of probably unnecessary testings/ CT scans etc. So be it. I am inclined to think the balance of my discomfort may be the presence of the h. hernia which I will just put up with. Bryant - do you still take something for the a.reflux? It takes about 2 wks to get into your system to be helpful. How was your pleurisy diagnosed? Good luck.

I've been on Prilosec/proton pump inhibitors for years for reflux. I hung in there and tried to get some sleep and not worry about spleen pain. I went back to the doc today, and he said it was built up gas from eating less. I had been eating more carrots the past couple days, and it did in fact help bring down my bloating feeling. It makes me wonder if I was actually feeling my spleen or the top of my colon.

My pleurisy was diagnosed 10 years ago from just general pain around my lungs in my rib cage. I went through some chest x-rays, but nothing turned up, and nobody has been able to find an underlying cause. Hopefully someday!

As indicated, the Prilosec and one Aleve per day have made a remarkable difference. A physician acquaintance also mentioned it might be an air/gas bubble at the splenic flexure (that sharp right angle of the transcending colon on our left side.) So I have also added chewing one Beano tablet (it's OTC) before I eat my breakfast. I wonder if the "guarded-ness" caused by being in pain, tenses the muscles and causes an air/gas bubble trap in the area. Just for what it's worth to you .......... Good Luck. J. P.S. So is the pleurisy only on the left side? I don't know much about the condition.
