So you think your liberty to not smoke trumps everyone else's liberty, that only nonsmokers are free in this country. What a fascist you are! I'm a recovering alcoholic. I know I can't go into a bar and just sit there for a long period of time but I'm not out here telling those who drink that they don't have rights. I belive you don't have a right to take a drink and you should be as I am on the wagon. My liberty is being infringed upon everytime you take a drink friend..
if you can't stand the sports bars with smoke start up one yourself that is for nonsmokers only and advertise it that way. Just because you have a problem doesn't mean everyone else has. Your a typical liberal you wants to micromanage the lives of others and belives that you are owed something by everyone else. GET A LIFE BUD!

You have every "right" to destroy your own health and to commit slow suicide. But that "right" ends where my nose begins. No one has the right to poison the air that everyone else breathes.

Except the guy who wrote the editorial CAUSED HIS OWN PROBLEMS!! And now he wants the rest of the world to "pay" for his choices.

I don't want to eat in restaurants where there are fat people. Let's ban the fat people from restaurants!!!

This is where a smokeless tobacco product would solve this. The smokers could continue to pollute their own bodies without polluting ours and we could let them do it in peace without infringing on their rights.

I agree with you but our friend wasn't speaking of that only his "RIGHTS" matter no one else's.
If you cross over into "my" space it not your right to tell me what to do. It is your choice to cross over to my space, you weren't forced to. As I said if I go into a bar I don't have the right to tell everyone in the bar to stop drinking because I'm an alcoholic and I have a problem with drinking. Our "friend" believes that because he has a problem that everyone must yield their rights to him, that is completely UnAmerican and dictarorial to impose his choice on everyone else. He has a choice to go to the sports bar, if it bothers him stay out of the bar or seek a place that does not allow smoking but don't tell me I have to quit just because it may offend or bother him.

I agree with Frank's statement, just go to a smoke free place. You have that right just like I have the right to go to a smoke free or a smoking place.

Actually, the rep who wrote that bill only wrote it "to bring attention to the problem". He had no intention of it becoming law.

It IS a good lesson for all the smoke nazi's...be prepared even more rights will soon be the target for government restriction and regulation.

Fat people don't bother me - others polluting the air that I breathe bothers me. Second-hand smoke is proven to hurt others. What's really said is the people who have to work in places that still allow smoking. Can you imagine their lungs after 8 hours of breathing that stuff. Not much is said about those poor folks.

CHOICE is a wonderful thing ..
I believe there are bumper stickers with that logo.
People have the right to choose ..
to smoke till their lungs turn black.
to stuff their face to the point of obesity.
to drink in excess without causing harm to others.
to die in peace and dignity - assisted suicide.
to have and to hold in love - same sex marriage
to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
to carry a gun
to use stem cells for research
to practice the religion of your choice
to have uncounted plastic surgeries.
to wear clothes from the 80's
to be tattooed.
to marry more times than you have fingers.
to vote and be counted
to assemble in a peaceful manner
to pierce their body multiple times
to wear their pants below the butt.
to an education.
to not pay taxes - tax noncompliance
to a fair trial
to drive a gas hog of an SUV.
to hug the person standing next to you friend or foe.
to listen to country music.
to enjoy reality TV

there are far so many .. the list is actually endless.
I know that everyone that reads this will have issue with one or more on the list .. but rights they are ....
With each one .. the 'individual' will have to face or deal with the outcome on their own level - whether good or bad. But still their right.
There is no right greater than the one above or below the one you have issue with or agree with.
They are all of equal value.
So if you say that a smoker has rights ..
you are
PROCHOICE.

which is a good thing .. just remember that when you vote.

As a rule most smokers seem to ignore common sense and only consider their wish to smoke valid. Smokers could get the nicotine they are such slaves to by using several other methods, but most insist on using a cigarette.

Hi Anne,So sorry about your COPD. Would you care to share with others what it's like to live with with it? May I ask what stage you're in, and the Aprox number of pack years you smoked?

Fact is, times have changed. We now know that smoking and second hand smoke kills, that's the difference in the old mentality where "if you don't like smoke, don't go into a bar". You can't get away from smoke, no matter where you are. I don't frequent restaurants or bars that I have had a bad "smoking" experience with, but why should someone give that up so that you can light up your habit? Shouldn't there be a middle ground? It will never happen. I can handle alot but watching smokers throw their butts on the ground and from their cars is the worst to me. Where's the respect for others and your environment? I think smokers would find that if others thought that smokers had respect for those around them that this issue wouldn't be so hot. Last, I can't stand being in an elevator with anyone that is a smoker. The smell literally gags me. The smoker can't smell it anymore, but boy can the rest of us. Your clothes stink and you smell like old ashtrays.

The middle ground is let the business owner decide if he/she wants to allow smoking in his establishment.

Don't you just love the respectful ones who will never smoke in your car or home but will do so just beforehand, letting you get that nasty, stale smell that as you just described, they are never even aware of. It's like smelling an old ash tray. Yuck!

Let's ban drinking, smoking, and being fat. Anything that could bother someone else for that matter.
If I don't like it , you shouldn't do it. How absurd some of you sound. Cigarettes are not illegal. In this country we have what is called freedom of choice. If you don't like drinking don't go where there is drinking, if you don't like smoking go to one of the many places that ban smoking, if you don't like fat people don't go to water country.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Libra

Someone is convinced they're in the right under the Lunar Eclipse, and they don't care how they get their point across. If there's trouble in your neighborhood, get it sorted out by putting your thoughts down in a blog, or on paper. Don't let anyone, even siblings, treat you like this, even if you balk at standing your ground under this moody cloud. Travel plans may be upset, and spiritual pursuits, and dealings with foreigners or people of other cultures is subject to pressure too.
