First off, I work hard. Secondly, I have health coverage, too. Thirdly, I pay taxes. Finally, had Rep. Platts voted for this bill, I would have voted for him this Fall.

Rep. Platts invokes the principal of do no harm, which he defines as increasing taxes, and increasing in health care premiums. Yet, he says nothing about the abuses of insurance providers, which also does harm and costs people money.

What Rep. Platts fails to do is join the principal of do no harm with do all the good one can. When I join those principals, I am led to conclude that denying health care coverage to 32 million Americans, allowing insurance abuses to go on unchecked, and blaming lawyers for high cost of medical care does no good, and much harm.

No legislation is ever perfect, and waiting for it to come along is nothing but an excuse for no legislation.

Sorry, Rep. Platts, on this one you come up like you always do: a back bencher whose conscience is no bigger than the majority whose votes you have to come to rely on.

And this is why I don't know whether I should cheer the passage of HCR or not.
I am happy that they eliminated pre-existing conditions as an obstacle to getting insurance. I can tell you from experience the BS reasons numerous insurance companies will give for denying you coverage.
But I am unconvinced at this point that we'll see any real cost reductions in health insurance. I do believe the poor will make out ok in this, but my gut tells me that the middle class will see only minor decreases in costs. It will be similar to Obama's "Middle Class Tax Cut" which only added about $14 dollars a week to my paycheck.
Cheer or cry? Don't know yet but I will give it some time and a fair shot.

How about this for all those who talk about the gov making medical decisions. Female colleague was told by her doctor that she SHOULD have a particular exam completed and many doctors are recommending that women get this exam at an earlier age than previously suggested. What's the problem? She works full-time and has employer provided health care, exactly what all those against this bill says we as American's should do. Well the insurance company in their great $$$ wisdom will not cover the exam so if she wishes to have it completed she will have to pay for it herself.

So in this case, who is making the health care decision, the doctor? NO. The patient, only if they can afford to pay for it in CASH (& not all people can) after they and their employer have already paid their monthly premiums. Who is making the decisions, the health insurance company that is who. Wrong, wrong, wrong...and this HAPPENS EVERYDAY IN EVERY CORNER OF AMERICA. WRONG.

Just look at all the happy fools they think they've been saved by our fearless leaders. Mama always said be careful what you wish for. The thing is, these stupid people have no clue that what they wished for and what they are getting are not even close. I guess you really can't fix stupid.
Going into the Capitol over the weekend the protesters against this bill called Barney Frank a "Fag" and John Lewis a "N*gg$r" and spit on them. These are the people you are aligning yourself with...bigots and racists. Who are the stupid people again???
I don't recall anyone on the right side of history saying this bill or our leaders were perfect. We just know that keeping things the same until we go bankrupt and are all excluded for pre-existing conditions isn't a good health care plan.

Platts and other members of Congress have an excellent health plan. Of course thanks to the passage of this, if he leaves office he won't be excluded from a new plan due to any health issues his family might have. So it's a win-win for Platts!

We don't know how this is going to turn out any more than the founding fathers knew how first the Revolution and then the Constitution would turn out; but I'm proud of the character of our country demonstrated by this law. This country is an ongoing experiment and the one undisputed fact was that the existing heathcare system was going to end in a catastrophe.

Kill it and start over? Yeah, right. Maybe in 1993 that would have worked, but you can't stop bailing water to do an analysis of how the hole got in the boat.

What a bunch of morons, everyone blowing their mouths off about how bad everything is going to be and no one knows what really is in this bill.Has it come to the point that everyone bloging on this site are rich upper class american, thats the only ones I know who would be crying and for one reason, they don't want the 6 or 5 or 4 figure working americans to have affordable health care.It has to stop, everyone in this counrty we think is so great should be able to go and get health care without the fear of loss of everything they have worked so hard for. This isn't the american way not the way it started out in the begining of this country.Insurance is to high and to easy for a company to back out of to save them money because you became a higher risk for them.Just think all that money you pay out over the years and when it comes time in your life to start using it you get CANCEL.

It seems obvious to me that the ones that are intelligent enough to make the kind of money that will be taxed aren't the ones writing some of the comments. I think some of the ones up in arms are quite the opposite.

Any name calling and stupid behavior by protestors this weekend is no better or worse than we have seen in the past by either side. Who are the stupid people you ask - that would be anyone who trades away their liberty for a hand out from a government that can give you something you may want today but tomorrow takes away something else you may not want them take. Stupid people don't understand "Life ,Liberty, and The Pursiut of Happiness" these three basic rights endowed to every person by our Creator impose no limits for individual achievment under the protection of The Constitution. It really isn't that complicated. That is until a Govenment starts to think they have the power and wisdom to create rights.

How can you have "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" when you can't afford to pay a doctor to prolong your life so you have the liberty of pursuing happiness?

The right winger who suggest that they don't want bureaucrats coming between them and their doctors apparently have never had to deal with an insurance bureaucracy that stands between a patient and a doctor. Frankly, I'll happily take my chances with someone who doesn't have a direct financial incentive to deny my claim so he can make his next boat payment.

Agreed. The whole idea of health insurance, run by a company whereby any claim they pay is labeled a "LOSS", how does one expect to receive high quality care? It's to their benefit to deny, obstruct, drop, and dispute coverage.

So many people is this country would do well to put down the anger, the fear, the rhetoric, and just simply think about some of these issues.

I am disappointed in Rep. Platts on his vote. While it was obviously expected given his district constituency, the ideas he expresses in his "news release" are worthless. Simply worthless.

Why, if he sees this deeply flawed health care situation, has he made no statement regarding it, crafted no bill, made no floor speeches or the like since he has been in office since 2000?

He waited until the Democrats proposed a bill, then opposed it and said we should do something else. Well, Mr. Platts, you had your chance with a Republican president and House/Senate for years, and you did nothing.

So, to say you want to do something now is simply disingenuous. Too bad you never have any decent competition in the elections, otherwise, I would be glad to see you gone.

do you realize that liberty suffered so very much more under the last 8 years that could ever be visited upon you by this single piece of legislation?

no, of course you didn't realize. You're either a racist, or in bed with the CON party

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Scorpio

Today's Lunar Eclipse at the Full Moon stirs up powerful emotions during the next two weeks (as it has done since the Gemini Solar Eclipse last month), and it may not be a very pleasant experience. Are you feeling rather compulsive and obsessive? Financial issues could be a problem,, especially if they appear to threaten your sense of emotional security. Don't let jealousy or envy make you do things that will set other people against you.
