OKAY dipstick, How much cholesterol are you taking in? I know a lot of meat heads like yourself and they eat a lot of red meat and other forms of protein. The fact of the matter is, your diet is not as great as you claim it is and your 6-7 small meals is probably enough to feed a village. Burning calories is easier than expelling cholesterol and just because you burn a billion calories a day doesnt mean your processing more cholesterol. The fact of the matter is this:
If you do not take in any cholesterol then your body will not have any cholesterol problems. Obviously you are taking in cholesterol. If you do not like the drug then stop taking it and die. What do we care. But do not blame it on the drug company because to be honest only about 1% of the people taking it actually have the problems that you are stateing. IT HELP MORE THAN IT HURTS AND NOBODY MADE YOU TAKE IT STUPID! |

Spread the word - Lipitor is a killer. Pfizer or the FDA has not conducted longe term effects of taking lipitor. Long term use (4-5 years) can cause peripheral neuropathy

Cramps in my right arm...Feet at night. Never had them before. The arm is really bad because I am a craftswoman who makes jewelry and it tends to interfere with my process. Interesting fact is that I had the side effect during the time I was taking the drug....Afew months at most....and they went away but have re-appeared and are really rather annoying now. I took it about l8 months ago...As I am always using my arms and hands I found this VERY interesting as I never had experienced any cramping difficulties before my Lipitor use.

lipitor is the number one drug in the world for a reason. if monitored properly and your healthcare provider listens to you then the side effects can be managed or prevented. the majority of people who take any of the statin drugs are obese. check out how many diseases are linked to obesity and think about it. |

My right lower leg is aching nearly all of the time.I feel exhausted. I have only taken Lipitor for around 6 months, what is happening to me? If I stop taking them will these symptoms go away? How long will it take? I believe that I should be reducing cholestrol by eating oats everyday, please someone tell me what I can do to feel better and be more healthy!

I was on Zocor ( a Statin of course) and I go the same symptoms you are all describing. Muscle pains and weakness, chest pains when I coughed etc. I also starting having Acid Reflux like condition. I realized that all my muscles wore being affected. After a month off the drug, I felt 100% better. Thankfully, all my symptoms disapeared. However, my cholesterol jumped from 160 to 230. I am one of the less lucky ones who produces too much Cholesterol. I am now on Zetia and although the muscles pains have not appeared, I am losing too much weight and I am getting a tingling on my feet and also numbness like feeling on my forehead(Sinus),dizziness.

I have taken statins for over 15 years; I am presently on Lipitor and have excellent results in lowering my cholesterol. My physician does blood tests every 3 months. I am thankful for medications that extend health for a better quality of life!

I just finished reading a book by Dr. Ladd McNamara called "The Cholesterol Conspiracy". Excellent read and fairly cheap. You can find it online for about $7.
In the book he explains how having high cholesterol in NOT the reason for heart disease. Over half of the people who die of a heart attack have normal cholesterol levels. Rather, it is the Homocysteine levels that have a direct relation to heart disease. Never heard of Homocysteine levels? Your doctor probably hasn't either. Because there is not a drug made by the pharmaceutical companies out on the market to lower Homocysteine levels. Instead, they keep preaching about high cholesterol and rake in the cash. Over $17 billion last year. He also explains how, by supplementing your diet with a quality nutritional supplement you can actually receive the same, and in some cases, better results than a statin drug and with NO side effects. If you're already on medication for high cholesterol, I would HIGHLY recommend reading this book. If you would like more info, please drop me an email at huffster@usana.com. |

One percent? And how do you arrive at this figure, genius? |

Obviously this guy, using multiple names, has some ax to grind. Let's ignore his comments and pay attention to the real issues people are TRYING to discuss here.

I have been reading all your posts about Lipitor and statin drugs. About one year ago, my doctor prescribed Lipitor and after a couple of months I couln't afford it so I insisted on a generic form. I now take Lovastatin and I am assuming this would have the same effects, or would it? I know this sounds like a stupid question and I won't even go into how bad my body is feeling. They presently say I have rheumatoid arthritis and numerous other problems but I am really wondering.

I started taking Caduet and this medicine(?) is lethal! After 5 months I have lost muscle mass in my arms, legs, breast and I have experience severe fatigue. I have had test for nerve damage and MRI's due to sever flu like symptoms.....I finally figured out on my own as to what was causing my problem. I insisted on my doctor to do blood test, which he kept insisting that I had not been on the Caduet long enough to experience these side effects. Soooo, he said we'll start with a urine test...guess what came back with muscle mass in my urine. Sure would like to get in on a class action suit!

As I keep saying, I am praying for you all. Good Luck and hope by some miracle you can get over these horrible side effects.
Am going to my dr. for unrelated issue today. Going to ask her opinion on statins and memory loss (on behalf of my mother in law). I hope like heck a law suite comes up. Should put these evil greedy money grubbers in their place. |

I like to inform "The Man" that not everyone with high cholesterol is obese! I am 6' tall and weight 170 lbs. I, like my mother, who is a vegetarian and 5'5" 115 lbs., produce excess cholesterol. She has been on Lipitor for over 6 years and is 83 years old. So far, it has not affected her in any way. As I stated before, I am now on Zetia and I believe it is causing my sinus problems. I went to an allergist and I was told I had inner-ear congestion, as well as, sinus. No infection. I was given a treatment for 2 weeks and after, I am going back on Zetia and see... I'll keep you posted. I have always been aware of the possible side effects. However, memory loss is something new to me. If in fact it has been concealed, then the drug companies have to be held accountable.

Angel:
In searching for side effects for Zetia I found many people talked about dizzyness, vertigo and other "head" related issues. Sounds like your sinus issues could be related. Check out the THINC people and how they feel about this whole cholesteral scam...you'll want to throw those darn pills in the trash.... Check out (for starters) http://www.ravnskov.nu/ncep_guidelines http://www.ravnskov.nu/cholesterol.htm and Dr. Graveline's site: www.spacedoc.net Very interesting reading. ALL these new drugs scare me. I have hormonal headaches and have tried the migraine meds, sometimes work but most of the time make them worse...Doc. wants me to go on anti-depressants! I said no, I'll wait and see if headaches get better/worse with menopause..(I'm 47)....That is another class of drugs that really frightens me (SSRI's...) Good luck... Check out Dr. Graveline's book at the library. Very enlightening. I guess your mom has been lucky. Good luck. |

You are really a sad and angry person. Try to remember the pain and suffering these FEW people have gone through and possibly will suffer for years to come, if not for the rest of their lives. I'm one of the few you mention and I live with the Liptor pain everyday.. |
||||
I went off by slowly reducing the dosage over a period of three/four weeks and I didn't have a heart attack...But I was on a low dose. You should talk with your Doctor about that. |

HEY HARRY! Nobody works hard except doctors, and people are lazy degenerates especially if they aren't doctors, and they all must be on welfare too, geez, your a d....! and I don't mean doc. either,as for the rest of the lazy welfare recipients on this post, god bless you!Someone very dear to me is on Lipitor, her memory is terrible now and she has other side affects that have been mentioned on this post,I never even considered Lipitor as a contributer, thank you all for sharing your stories, unfortunately some folks take the word of there doctor as if it were 'GOD' and if they don't take medication as prescribed then they are not complying with treatment. You folks take care, oh and Harry, nobody's worked as hard as you,or is as smart as you!your the man.

Vesta, what are the benefits of the statins? Yes, they do lower cholesterol; however, reliable research is pointing out that many people have serious cardiovascular problems with "normal" cholesterol levels. I have an unscientific belief that statin usage does negatively affect CoQ10 levels (essential for good heart function) and may lead to inflammation caused by free radicals in the bloodstream. Bottom line is that the jury is still out on a clear cause and effect relationship between "high" LDL and heart disease/attack prevention. Mesa, AZ |
