My 14-year-old son with severe CP has chronic constipation. We have tried many things to help. I have the sense that he is "fighting" having a BM. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.

My brother who is 34 has severe constipation. We have tried everything, and although sentakot and such used to work, nothing seems to anymore.
Anyone with new ideas or miracle cures please let me know!

My 8 year old relies on Miralax.
It works by drawing liquid to the intestines and colon to encourage a BM. I only give it to him when he seems to be having difficulty having a BM. You mix it with any regular drink. It has no smell and no flavor.

It has worked really well for my son.

My son is 25 now, with cp. I daily give him plenty of liquids. I also give prune juice. When I know he needs to have a BM,I give a soposority(sp)?? I get a prescription from his Dr. every other day or as needed to initiate a BM. It's only a glycerine/biascoil so it can't hurt him. Within a hour or two he goes, and feels much better! Forget those fiber things--don't work.

My brother is 31 with severe CP. My mom gives him miralax which I think works well. She is always trying different things. For a while she was giving him enemas. It seems like a constant battle, getting him to have bm's. He also has a g-tube.

hi, my son is 2 years has cerebral palsy, he suffers from constipation as well, but we give him Lactulose, it does work, but I have to give it to him everyday, I think no matter how much fluids u give you still have to use medicine to help him.

My Daughter is 17 due to medication for her spastic cerybral palsy we were doing the apple juice thing but it caused gas pains and blowting.
we use mirolax on a daily bases and alot of yogurt. It seems to help but we need that extra i resort to a small little tube of baby lax. Thats what its called is babylax. Its actually a very small tube of mineral oil in a bubble with a enama valve. Its not to much and its just enough to stemulate the urge to go.It has worked for years! hope it works for you.God Bless you for taking care of your son. i comend you and will keep you in my prays.

Hi my on seth has cp and he was real bad with constipation and was having to have lacolose and enermers heaps but then i change his diet he now is real good we dont rely on those products anymore and i was scared they would be bad for him when he got older.
High Fibre food is great for consipation and fresh meat and veges not stuff that has been frozen and just heaps of fibre. And Kiwi fruit and Muslie works a treat to. So i hope that helps you out cos it was a nightmare for me to.

I know exactly how some of you feel, and I'm terribly sorry for it. It's extremely frustrating to not be able to find a solution.
My sister is 23 and she has cevere CP. She takes Miralax, and initially it did seem to work, but now we are desperate! She hasn't been to the restroom in about 3 weeks. The doctors and the hospital doesn't know what to do ... we've tried it all. She's hungry but all she can do is vomit. It looks like the vomit is actual feces now. What do we do? Take her to the hospital??? Who knows what the heck they'll do to her there. Please can someone help. At least reccommend me some good hospital, a doctor, ANYTHING! Please, this is way out of our control. It's life or death.

My son is almost three and has CP and suffers from constipation. I've started working with the scientists and Shaklee (www.shaklee.com )-- they have a product called Herbal Lax -- it is not a drug and your body won't become immune to it. My son has been taking it for a week now and has had a BM three times this week!!! So excited. If you need a Shaklee distributor let me know -- I paid for a distributorship so I can get my hands on this product much easier and cheaper (although it's only about $20 a month). Love it!!!

Hello, I have a 6 year old son with CP He has struggled with constipations at just a few months old. His stools would be so hard that he would bleed and scream in pain when he passed them. sometimes he would go a week and a half with out moving his bowels because he would hold it in. We don't like to use meds if its not neccessary and we tried everything we could think of before trying miralax. we had heard ppl argue that when they had used miralax on thier children, that the kids began to regress or have behavioral issues and that it took months to resolve after stopping miralax. Because we were so helpless, we tried miralax. We also had a bad experience with it. Miralx did help him move his bowels, every 3 days but he was miserable. He complained about everything, even things he typically loved. He was not a very happy little boy. He would not work at school and was throwing tantrums. we stopped the miralax after a month and it took about 3 months until he was acting himself again. that is when i came across FLAXSEED! it works great. I can't believe we hadn't tried it before. You have to buy the ground flaxseed. You cannot use the flaxseed oil ( you need the fiber in the flaxseed meal ) you can find it at walmart ( baking section ), weis, shopright ( among other places )we put about 3 heaping tablespoons in our sons oatmeal every morning and he moves his bowels every other day and the stools are very soft ( not loose ) it works perfect, it is good for your body and its natural. If we find he needs to move his bowels quicker we just give hime a few more spoonfulls and he sometimes moves his bowel as soon as a few hours. hope this works for you. it has been a miracle for us! Daily Horoscope for June 4

Libra

Someone is convinced they're in the right under the Lunar Eclipse, and they don't care how they get their point across. If there's trouble in your neighborhood, get it sorted out by putting your thoughts down in a blog, or on paper. Don't let anyone, even siblings, treat you like this, even if you balk at standing your ground under this moody cloud. Travel plans may be upset, and spiritual pursuits, and dealings with foreigners or people of other cultures is subject to pressure too.
