Thank you, thank you for running this story! After my visit to this wonderful bakery I had cupcakes for the first time in 15 years! I'll be a regular and frequent visitor. Over the years there are many foods I have just learned to do without - although
you never really stop missing them (biscuits and gravy!). Holidays are especially difficult. I live in Tahlequah and will be happy to drive to Wagoner to shop at this delightful shop! |

I will be visiting Tahlequah in April and am looking for GF places to eat. Do you have any suggestions? Also, how far away is this bakery? Thank you!

There is a gluten free bakery in Alliance Ohio called Kathy's Creations. I believe there is a website. I'm sure if you google it you could find it if anyone is interested. I hope this helps someone.

What is the name of your shop and where are you located? |

Because a restaurant has a Gluten Free menu, does not necessarily mean that having a meal there is risk free!
I was sick for weeks after eating at PF Changs! I asked for the GF menu, but clearly they did not prepare my food the way they were were supposed to. I also read on that link of other restaurants in the country, where more folks mentioned PF Chang's cross-contamination problem. Please let them know you heard about this so they will be more diligent. Also ate at Outback on 71st and had a reaction. They put some type of seasoning on the steak even though I asked for their GF menu. Won't go back to either of these places in the near future, but I plan on complaining loud and clear until they understand what happens when there is cross-contamination. |

Q - did you specifically tell the server that your meal was to be gluten free? There are times that they get very busy, that they honestly don't remember that you have a gf menu...but if you tell them that your meal is to be gluten free (I usually do so 2-3 times while ordering), Outback and Chang's are really good about it. I have had problems with a Pei Wei in Tulsa - found wheat noodles in my gf meal - but I've had really good luck with Outback and Chang's. I do make it a point to confirm with the server at ordering and meal delivery that it's gluten free, though - we're all human, and mistakes can happen. These two restaurants in particular are more than happy to bring you a new meal if anything on your plate is suspect. By the way...CC's is wonderful! I'll be heading over there this weekend. Thanks to the owners and to News on 6! |

Hi Coasters, Celiac affects people in all different ways - it's an autoimmune disease, which means that your immune system starts attacking your own body. Celiac affects the part of the small intestine that allows your body to absorb nutrients - basically, you think you're eating healthy, but your body can't absorb anything helpful. Because of this, your organs don't get the nutrients they need to function, and it affects everyone differently. When I get "glutened", I get symptoms that are very close to chronic fatigue - I'm achy and exhausted for 3-5 days straight, so much so that I can't function. My son, however, gets insomnia, GI problems (everything from severe constipation to feeling like there's broken glass going through his gut), random joint aches, extreme lack of focus, and his skin feels like it's on fire. Not fun. Other people might not have many outward symptoms at all, but the constant lack of nutrients causes so much damage to various organs and tissues that they can contract things like diabetes and cancer. Because they don't have symptoms to warn them that something's wrong, these things come seemingly out of the blue. I'm really glad that more food companies are realizing the danger that gluten poses to so many people - and that places like CC's are there to help us. I don't so much mind a different diet (though it does get difficult at times), but I know that one of the hardest things for my son is feeling like he just doesn't fit - and one of the hardest things for others is trying to find things to let him fit in without making him sick. |
