With all the recalls from China endangering our lives and those of our pets we should dump China as a trade partner and go back to Processed in the USA, or rather USA.

Well, now it makes sense. I ate a Taco Salad for dinner from Steak N Shake on Sunday, July 15th. Beginning at 5:00 a.m. Monday, I had stomach pains and diarrhea. I didn't eat anything for 2 days. When I did eat, it was a bland diet.
Now, 1 week later, I'm better although my system has not fully recovered.

Interesting - My husband and his co-woprkers ate at the Bloomington Steak & Shake on Friday and all had stomach issues all weekend. So they say it is just in the product sold at the store? Wonder how true that is?

Does this mean that Steak n Shake serves "canned" chili?

Wonder where the "steak" for their steakburgers comes from?

This is a tad irresponsibly written, and clarification is needed.

Where, for example, are the 10-oz cans of Steak'n'Shake chile to be obtained?-- from the grocery store shelves?--from a Steak'n'Shake store/restaurant?-- or is it a main ingredient in the actual chili served to the public, as the article seems to imply.

As Steak'n'Shake is a locally-owned company, it would seem that the *local* newspaper would be a bit more careful by responsibly explaining the involvement of a local company's product in a horrendous recall such as this.

This article is yet another of the many "fear factors" fed to the population by the media.

Shame on the Star for being a participant in this trend, at the stake of a local company.

Hopefully more clarification will follow in the days to come -- however, the damage might already have been done.

Quoted from the sidebar of the Star -- my faith in the local Newspaper is restored:

(edited for space and relevance to the conversation)

"Steak n Shake statement

Steak n Shake is participating in a voluntary recall of their 10 oz canned chili product manufactured under license by a company called Castleberry Foods.

This is the only product Steak n Shake sells from Castleberry Foods.

The chili served in Steak n Shake stores is NOT affected by this recall.

The product served in the Steak n Shake restaurants is made from fresh ingredients in a kettle in each store.

***

If you still have this product in your home, dispose of the can and bring the label to our store for a full refund. Again, this recall *** does not *** affect any of our other chili products.

For additional information you can contact the following:

Castleberry: www.castleberrys.com or call them at 888 203 8446.

You can make the same thing at home. Do a search for Steak and Shake Chili recipe and you will find it. I live in Calif. and I was having bad cravings for it. My daughter found it on the WWW and it is now a once a week treat.Tastes just like the real deal.

Why didn't the Kroger store personnel tell me that yesterday when I purchased a can? An employee was in my way stocking the shelves. He asked me what I wanted and I told him the S&S chili. He didn't say a word.

do U actually think the lil guy stocking the shelves at Kroger would know about a bad batch of canned products? The real question is why havent the managers of the store given the lil guy a task of boxing the chit up? Oh, wait I know...it's next weeks 10 for 10$ hot item

You're a TEACHER? No wonder our schools are in bad shape.

Did you see this sentence at the top of the article? Kind of answers your question:

"Officials of Indianapolis-based Steak N Shake officials said the recall does not include the chili served in its restaurants."
