barkway,
I agree on the Wildlife Care Center. I quit taking the ducks there when I realized they put them all down. Then when they wouldn't even help out with BSO's poisoning investigation in our neighborhood, I knew they weren't going to help protect the ducks.
There is a lady in Tamarac (I think) who rehabs ducks. I've gotten advice by e-mail from her. She has a not profit organization called Duck Haven, if I remember the name correctly.
Did you happen to receive the new Wildlife Care Center magazine? They featured a tory in there about a muscovey that had been treated for being hooked with a fish hook. Now I'm not saying that didn't happen since we remove several fish hooks a year from ducks around here but the purpose of that magazine is to drum up donations and it made me more than a little angry to see them pretending to be recuers of Muscoveys when their OWN staff person TOLD me they have a policy to just put them down when people bring them in. That's misleading and dishonest.

Of all the states I've lived in throughout my life (and there have been a LOT), Florida and Floridians are definitely the least animal friendly and the most animal phobic.(And don't EVEN get me started on their really bad driving skills and their God-awful schools. It really is a different world here from the rest of the country).

No, I didn't see that magazine, but it would have made me angry. I've removed fish hooks and fishing lures from ducks. Several years ago some kids (who have since moved) thought it was fun to hook them and cut the line. I had to have a neighbor hold the duck (with the fishing lure in it) down so I could get the thing out of his leg.

I realize this is an old thread, but i did a search on ducks and botulism and it led me here. My daughter and I just wanted to remark that it is no wonder John McCain, American Hero, lost the election with moron douche bag supporters like the one spouting his foul (fowl-get it lol) mouth off here.
