I love hearing about kids and parents like this who never ask for or expect to be catered too or treated different. More parents need to say to their perfectly healthy and whole children, "you can, you just need to try harder".

This is an amazing operation. While unorthodox at this time, the functionality it provides is substantial. The boy is undoubtedly courageous, and at the same time it is heartening to see him do the things he did before the cancer, enjoying a high quality of life. Kudos to the doctors, nurses, surgeon and parents as well.

I've hesitated saying anything to you, because it just gives you a reason to say another mean thing, but I have to say something.First, if you don't like the Dispatch, don't read it. Second, why would you insult a young BOY.... who is trying to do his best to "fit in" and make a place for himself in this world? He is showing more character and displaying more strength than people twice his age are when confronted with a life altering event. For you to resort to calling him a crude name , just because he did not give up on his life is just plain hateful !!. I certainly hope you are never faced with anything as terrible as he. You could never make it thru as he has.Don't ever think you are safe as you get older, as my FIRST cancer didn't appear until I was 66 years old ! Then a stroke, then cancer again, then heart problems..........so you had better watch yourself and hope you have half the courage he has, if and when you are afflicted!!
