im 16 and ive never been on any birth contol before. my doctor wrote me a perscription for Ocella. when i started to read about it ive just heard a bunch of bad stories and terrible side affects. like i said ive never been on a birth control so i have nothing to compare it too but im scared to even start it due to everything ive heard. io have a friend who is on the same thing but was switched from yasmin to Ocelle about a month ago and she says sometimes her legs go numb and her feet feel tingly!! this definatly isnt a good sign!! im really nervous about starting this medication any advice

I haven't read any of the "horror stories" because I knew it would freak me out, however I've been on Ocella for a few years now. The doctors switched me from Yasmin to Ocella and I noticed no changes. I have never once had any side effects from Ocella, except for the occasional cramp. I switched to Yasmin from Ortho Tricyclin-Lo which made me extremely depressed and I have never looked back or been happier with a switch in medication. I recommend Ocella completely. Keep in mind that different medications affect people differently. It's hard to give specific advice but I've never had problems with Ocella.

I took Ocella for 2 months and developed multiple blood clots that settled in my right lung and right pulmonary artery. I just got out of the hospital a week ago Monday. I will no longer take any kind of hormonal pills other than the one for my thyroid. No way. I do not have a predisposition for clots as blood work has confirmed. And the only change in my routine was taking the Ocella.
If you suddenly are breathing hard for no apparent reason, feeling like you can't get enough oxygen, have chest pains when you inhale or bend over, or feel lightheaded seek emergency care immediately!
I saw my doctor 2 days after the severe heavy breathing and she (not being my normal GP as he was out of the office) diagnosed me as having asthma and (which I already have) and she sent me on my way with 2 prescriptions. One for an emergency inhaler and one for Pulmicort (a steroid powder inhaler similar to Advair). Those I routinely used before when my asthma was bad when I was smoking a year and a half ago. She said follow up with your GP in 2 weeks. So I waited 2 weeks and didn't get much better. I saw my GP and he was very concerned with my pulse rate when I walk. It was 159 just walking around a little bit... He listened to my lungs and heart very well and scheduled an emergency appointment for a CT scan with Contrast at a local hospital. They found blood clots. They sent me to the ER. The ER admitted me into the hospital. I was there Friday the 22nd, through Monday the 25th. I went home on Lovenox (an injectable blood thinner) as well as Warfarin (a pill blood thinner) I see my doctor on Tuesday for a one week follow up. I did blood work on Wednesday last week. Hopefully the blood thinner is now at a good level in my blood. The INR is supposed to be between 2 and 3. It was at 1.75 when I left the hospital. So be careful! Watch out for those signs!
I still have blood clots in my lung and artery so I have to be careful. And I still get heavy breathing when I walk any distance. But I'm alive and I'm thankful. So no more birth control pills for me! I was prescribed them to help regulate my periods as I have PCOS.
I was just looking up info on bc that reduces acne and stumbled on this site. I figured i should let you know that i also found a law firm talking about a class action law suit in the US and Canada for people who've suffered blod clots or pulmonary embolisms from Yasmin. merchantlaw.com I hope you are doing well. These side effects are too extreme to risk just to reduce acne.

Taking Ocella for 7 days. Prior to ocella I took Yasmin for 5 years with no probem. Was switched to the generic without notice nor choice. My OB swore she had no one complain and that its exactly the same. Unlike others who got a savings for the generic, my prescription went up. Way up!!! I have a $3000 deductible and it now includes prescriptions. So I'm going to have to choose wisely. I called for my yasmin but was deterred. Side affects are not in my head. They are on my face - acne that I haven't had in years on my forehead and the deep cystic ones around my nose. Dry flaky skin at the same time on my cheeks. Ive been at the cosmetic counters 4 times now in the last 7 days. I gained 5 lbs in 1 week with no change in diet or exercise. This never happens. Tired all the time. Head aches. Slow metabolism. Feel bloated with lower back pain. Vaginal mucus. Just yuk. I feel unwell. I'm going off of this!!! My body is saying "no way!". This stuff is scary. I'm not even going to mess around with this. Why? So the drug company can make a profit?

I have been taking ocella for years and have had recurring monthly headaches at the start of every period for the first day or two. When I ask my doctor she says that would happen to me regarldess of the birth control pill I take and that its not due to this particular birth control! The worst thing is I have had rash like pimples sometimes, I wake up with tons of them mostly below my cheekbones, and on my chest. Its like an allergic reaction...but everytime I go to the doctor my referral to a dermatologist gets denied! I have wondered if I was allergic to something I was eating or detergent I've been using but after reading up on ocella I think this might be it! I need another form of birth control that can be trusted to not do this to me...is yasmin safe?

I got the ocella back, but am feeling hungry again. Oh, I have recurring monthly headaches too at the start of every period. I have been on it awhile that I don't know if it is the pill or me.

I had been taking Yasmin for over 3 years without any side effects. After my last request to refill Yasmin I was surprised to see Ocella when I received my prescription by mail. I hadn't read anything about it before I started taking it and assumed there would be a rocky transitional period, as my body would have to get used to the new hormone levels and what not but I hope these side effects end soon! I am experiencing extreme moodiness and irritability, where as before (on Yasmin) I was pretty proud of my control that I had over my emotions and only really lashed out when I was on my period. Now I constantly feel as if I am on my period. I have only been taking Ocella for a week and am disappointed by the numerous changes that have taken place since. I have also had an unsatisfied appetite causing me to be constantly hungry, if I keep going at this pace weight gain is an inevitable outcome. I have also broken out on my face and back and have experienced increased bloating and fatigue, finding myself feeling tired for most of the day even after I slept well. I plan on finishing out a months worth to see if these symptoms subside, if not I will be requesting to be switched back to Yasmin.

I am currently on Loestrin and before that I was on Solia, so far, I've been on birth control for a little less than 2 years and the only bad side effects I've had was weight gain. First I only gained 5 pounds of what seemed like water weight, so that wasn't a big deal because I thought my body was just adjusting. Then when I was switched to Loestrin, I gained another 10 pounds, for a total of 15 pounds of I don't know what - water weight, regular weight. I have noticed that I am a lot more hungry now but I eat healthy and try to keep it under control. My lifestyle has also changed so part of my weight gain can be attributed to that, but I think most of it is definitely because of the pill. I'm on the pill for one and one reason only and it is for my acne, so I'm starting to think about trying to get off it because 15 pounds of extra weight for me is not okay. I have recently been told by someone who is on Ocella that they did not gain any weight at all on it, so I was wondering if other people had the same experience because I would gladly switch to something that will not turn me into a whale.

I have been on Ocella for 2&1/2 years. I have been on birthcontrol for 11 years consistently but longer than that at age 15 with breaks and having a child. Okay my take on Ocella is if it's right for you then stay on it. However, it was not right for me, I have gain 25 pounds over the 2&1/2 years and had crazy mood swings, no sex drive, tired and during excercise, palpatations. I am now trying the Nova ring. Ocella was the worst so far. I have done the Patch and it was great until after every work out I had leg cramps so my OB pulled me off it. I do know, alot of birthcontrol has the same side effects until you find the right one that fits you because each one effects everyone different.

I've been in ocella for this will b my 4th day. First three days I had headaches, nausea, fatigue. But nothing just a little tired. But I have a bad pain in my leg on my calf. It feels kinda Hott and painful when I touch or rub my leg. I'm hoping its not a blood clot. This is my very first time taking bc. Also I want to know if anyone had similar symptoms and how ling does it take to notice breast growth. Thanks

I'm 49 and have taken yasmin both brand and generic for years and have never had any problems. So far it has been great for keeping my hormones regulated as I approach menopause.

Had some of the same problems many years ago with loestrin and my doc put me on a continuous dose. I was able to skip my periods and avoid the headaches and pms.
