I was on the LO birth control pill for over a year an now just had a blood clot form in my leg an travel to my lung. I was never had anything wrong till now. Wish they would put the warnings on the packs saying that blood clots are a risk from the pills. Now I'm having high Dr. bills an hospital bills from it.

I started taking ortho back in 1997. I took it for two years & was fine. I was 28 years old & had a stroke due to blood clots. Doctor said it could have been the pill but never documented it. I almost died. My final diagnosis was TTP. I was 1 month in the hospital getting blood transfusions to clean out my systems from all the blood clots. After a month I continued the treatment for another month having to drive to NY blood bank in Westchester, NY everyday & sit there for 6 hours. When my treatment was over I had another relapse less then a week later & had to restart the treatment again. This took away 5 months of my life and almost left my 6 year old daughter without a mom. Thank God & my co-workers for driving me to the ER while stuffing aspirin down my throat which helped me survive but I have memory problems. I have lost so many precious memories & it seems to be getting worse. It affects my work & everyday life. I ask myself if this is at 36, will I even remember my kids when I'm 50? Someone has to help us shut this medication down. I am going to send this message to the FDA. Good luck to you all & please dont ignore your bodies. If somehing feels wrong go get checked before its too late. I ignored the symptoms for days & almost lost my life.

I was on Ortho (the lowest form) for 7 years. I just recently discovered last week on Valentine's Day that I have a blood clot in my left leg. Going through blood thinning treatments, and I'm scared to death. I'm hoping to do more research to get answers when this is over. Fingers crossed.

Firstly, just an FYI, I was taking MonoNessa, which is one of the synonym drugs for OTL.
I just got out of the hospital about 2 weeks ago after I was told I have a blood clot and bleeding in the brain. A week before I was rushed to the small ER, and flown by helicopter to the trauma 1 large hospital, I had headaches for a week shrugging it off that it was stress- working jobs and getting through the 17 college credits at 20 years old. The day I was taken in (2/2) my dad and I were told that there was a blood clot and bleeding in the brain at the first hospital, they couldn't handle it so I was flown to the trauma 1 center downtown. I couldn't talk, there were and still are deficits in my eyes, focusing, and memory issues. I almost died. The team of neurosurgeons saved my life. I was in NeuroICU for 6 days and a regular room for 4. Now, I'm on warfarin for at least 6 months and seizure medications because I had seizures because of the clot and bleeding. I go to have checks 1-2 times a week. If there is a class action suit out there some one has found will you post it please? |

I had the same exact issue, I am 21 now but I was 20 and i had a stroke, I was on the pill for a couple of years though, but my doctors were the same way and not wanting to say it was the pill. I am now trying to see if there is any lawsuit to be held against them

Amazing ... a law student with the support of Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi assert that there is no such thing as "Free Birth Control" when in fact there is.
Apparently Planned Parenthood does give out such at no cost, as this story at the link below shows. This is great because in these hard economic times, I do not have to spend my own money for contraceptives. http://cnsnews.com/blog/eric-scheiner/shockin... |

I also was hospitalized due to dvt and pulmonary embolism also while in the hospital for almost 3 weeks the doctor informed my family that the right side of my heart has been weakened due to the clots. This has been June of 2008, I was placed on coumadin for a year and a half and still have to go to the heart doctor every six months to make sure everything is ok. I think we all need ti get together and let the FDA and whoever else know what this drug has done to all if us and our family

I am 29 yrs old and have never taken birth control before this incident. I have no genetic history of blood clots. I recently began using Ortho Tri-cyclen and after using it for a month was diagnosed with deep vein thrombrosis. I had a huge blood clot that was in one of my major veins where my left thigh and pelvis connect. My left leg was swollen and I was in excruciating pain. I have had to inject myself with shots in my stomach twice a day as well as take coumadine pills and after 3 weeks I am still in pain and my leg is still swollen. I can't walk without a limp and it has completely altered my life in a negative way. I was told to look into a possible lawsuit against this company and ran into this page. It deeply saddens me that us as women had to suffer such pain and even death over trying to be responsible. I noticed this page began in 2009. Has anyone been able to make any progress in getting this pill revoked or possibly filing some type of class action lawsuit? If so I would love to be apart of anything that keeps this from happening to someone else. Please email me sharpesasha@yahoo.com. Thank you!

I had a stroke 9 months ago while taking ortho- tricyclen .I am 32 now and a mother of two girls.I was in the hospital for 2 weeks.I definitely agree something should be done.Doctors and health departments need to do more testing while women are taking this pill. When I was admitted in the hospital my triglycerides were over 1300.If this was discovered sooner this would not have happened to me!

Wow...I didn't think it would be so many complaints about Ortho-tricycle/LO. I had a pulmonary emboism and almost died on Sept 11.2009. The doctors told me that I was not suppose to be here. This drug has done some damage and I am also still on Cumidin. I am afraid to get on an airplane. Has anyone found out if you could sue for the damages this may have caused?

I was on Ortho for less then 5 months and developed a blood clot in my leg which then traveled into my lung. I was hospitalized for a week and on thinners for a year after. That was 5 years ago. I am not allowed to take any kind of BC in any form the rest of my life. I was never told or saw a warning against this. I have seen it on other BC I researched but at the time NOTHING on Ortho.
I'm now almost 8 months pregnant with my first and due to the damage of the first clot, developed two more in my leg at the beginning of my pregnancy. I felt the same sensation and went straight to the doctor who confirmed. I am on shots twice a day because the blood thinners in the pill form are VERY harmful to my unborn child. I would LOVE information on a suit against Ortho. I have almost lost my life twice and my unborn child. I have racked up so much in medical not to mention the time off work, travel time and such. Women NEED to know the risk they are putting themselves in! Please e-mail me as well! hmorales09@ymail.com |

The same thing happened to me over 12 years ago, pulmonary embolism. Hospitalized for 6 days then on blood thinners for 6 months. Less than a year later I got pregnant and the doctor put me on injections immediately. As soon as your doctor knew you were pregnant he/she should have known the increased risk for more clots and put you on heparin immediately. Did your OB/gyn know of your past history? I was worried what all this was doing to my baby...she was born perfect and healthy. She is now 12 and i worry about one day her starting ANY kind of birth control. |
|
Hi Sue, My OB knew my history but didn't start me on anything. I noticed the pain in my leg and went straight in when they confirmed I had two more clots. As soon as that happened, he sent me to the specialist. I'm so glad to hear your daughter is ok. I too worry about my daughter being on birth control one day. When I was in the hospital I asked the nurse how common it was (I was 19) for women with clots especially younger women and they said it was more common then anyone would think. How scary! I just think about what would have happened if I didn't see a doctor. What about the women who do not have health insurance or were like me and ignored it for so long thinking the pain would go away? |

I took Orthotrycline and ended up with a blood clot that went to my brain and caused a brain hemorrage. I was hospitalized for a month in intensive care where I continued to get two more clots. I was out of work for six month, had to go back to the hospital the have the bone flap replaced because my brain swelled. I could not work for six months, went back very part time for two years and then my Dr. decided I had to quit. I'm amanzed that some law firm or lawyer hasn't picked up on the number of people who have had devastating results from taking Orthocycline birth control pill

I took orthotricyclene and orthotricyclene lo for about a year after I graduated college. I was about 22 yrs old. After taking it for about 6 months,I felt like I couldn't breathe, I had terrible heartburn and frequently felt like I was going to pass out. I told my doctors I didn't want to take it anymore but they told me there weren't any other options and to keep taking it. Finally a cardiologist told me to discontinue it. Im 30 now, but I still don't feel like I'll ever be the same. I think doctors need to better educate their patients on the available options and side effects.

I took Yaz and then switched over to Orthotricyclene. I took it from October 2009 to July 2011 when I ended up having a DVT at 32 years old. I do NOT smoke. I had no idea how I could've gotten a DVT. My clot started behind my right knee and went to my ankle. They didn't know how long it had been building up. After a week in the hospital and months of being on coumadin. It is still not completely gone. I was told to stop taking my birth control immediately when I was admitted. It has been a rough ride. NOONE should have to go thru this pain and the financial burden of medical bills it has caused my family. I am sad to hear that so many people have lost loved ones from this as well. I'm amazed at how many people on here have had these same problems. So if anyone knows of a class action suit please let me know. My email is hintontk@hotmail.com.

I just found this site and WOW.
I went to the ER on March 8th, 2012 with what I thought was a Gallbladder attack. I had been on OTL for about 8 months. I liked it because it kept my skin clear from adult acne but on the other side it made me gain about 20lbs. Long story short, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Emboli. I had a medium sized clot in each lower part of the lungs. It damaged my liver and parts of the lungs that did not have any blood flow. I have no idea how long I had them for but yes, basically a sitting time bomb. The scary part is that about 2 weeks before I finally went to the ER because I had chest pains. They only did an EKG and said it was probably stress related due to a nasty divorce I am going through. Due to what happened I am off work for a weeks, my heart is working harder than it should, and I am on Warfarin for a min of 6 months. The positive side is that I am alive and here for my 9 year old daughter and my boyfriend and mother who has Dimentia. I am in Canada so our laws are different for Suing but I hope that this drug gets taken off the market. To think of how many lives have been cut short! |
