blood clots w/ortho tricyclen lo

I had been taking OTL since September of '07 (about 5 months) and developed several large and small blood clots in my lungs. I was in the hospital for 5 days until the Coumadin reached a therapeutic level in my blood. This wouldn't have been caught had I not gone to Urgent Care feeling like I was coming down with pneumonia. Blood tests were taken and one revealed a possible clot. The chest CT taken at the ER revealed several clots in both sides of my lungs. I was a walking time bomb and didn't even know it! I have not been able to find any information about lawsuits against the makers of Ortho TriCyclen-Lo; all I hear about is lawsuits against the makers of the Ortho Evra Patch. Can anybody help with this??? Please??? Thanks!

I don't think you can sue for this, is says in the insert that BCPs can cause blood clots.

The thing is though the ortho evra patch has a warning too in the insert about blood clots and lawsuits are being filed. I have been through the same thing that you, Maurine, went through. I am was in the hospital for 3 days. I went to the doctor cause I had a fever, my leg was hurt, I could hardly breath,etc. Comes to find out that I had a blood clot from mid thigh to mid calf. I had a CT scan done and I had clots in my lung due to a pulmonary embolism. This is the scariest thing to know that I almost died. It is just not fair that the people on the patch are getting their compensation, even thought they had prior knowledge of the risk, which by the way are very slim. I am interested in lawsuits against ortho tricyclen also as I have life long complications from it apd if any of you have heard of it ?

you can not sue for complications with the pill, however, you can try with the patch. good luck!

I want to be in this List my daugther was on ORTHOTRICYLIN lo for 3 weeks and has a stroke. 2 Weeks before her 18th birthday.

we can not get the dr. to say the it was the pill but she was a very Healthy girl before this
12 years of School with all A's & B's and now we think there is a problem with her learing.

My daughter was taking the pills Orthotricyclin for 4 weeks. She did not notice any side effect from the pills until, she felt lack of air and cannot walk. She was taken to the ER, which diagnosed with Pulmonary dishorder. My daughter was at the hospital for 1 week and alive thanks for the treatment. Can I do a lawsuit about the pills and the doctor gave her?

there are warnings on them all and they say blood clots are possible side effects. i just got out of the hospital with a blood clot on the back of my brain, went through what you did with the coumadin, it suxs. but dont think we can sue, we used it at our own risk

I just started taking OTL about a month and half ago. For the past two days my left leg and arm have been feeling weird and achy and almost numb sometimes and I when I wake up in the morning I feel like I have a dead leg. I'm 19 and perfectly healthy that I know of. I couldn't find much info on how to know if you have a blood clot. Does this sound like a blood clot?

My 21 year old girl died 28 days after taking this deadly drug!
She was going to get married in Nov, and died in Oct, 2008) 28-days after starting the bith control pill.
I don't care how many warnings are on the information packet, This Co. Should be forced to re-design this drug or take it off of the market.
If everyone that has been hurt or have damaged childrens lives from this drug would get a Lawyer and make this Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuitical Inc. take responsability for this deadly drug, Something might be done to Save another childs Life.

I have taken ortho try cyclen low for 3 and a half years before I decided to have another child.I am now 25 years old ,and had the second baby last year,and I decided to start taking the pill again 2 weeks ago.I never paid attention before to my body but I can not belive what I am feeling.I have thought of suicide ,I get very irritated,infrequent hear rate,I feel like I cant get enough air.It makes me wonder What the heck are we puting in to our body.Should we wait for death before someone takes the formula of this pill in consideration.I think that people should get together and do something about this.If anyone is intrested of persuing this issue please e-mail me at adaujka@gmail.com

Has anyone listed a complaint with the FDA? I was asked to do so by a lawyer today. He said the more complaints reported will cause them to react. I'm going to notify them today. My 33 year old daughter died after taking this pill for about 45 days.

Update still tring to figure out what to do but my doctor told me yesterday i was lucky to be alive that my case is severe and that my clots are large ones and i had many of them in both lungs. This needs to be taken off the market. email me at leslie41522@yahoo.com I live in pikeville KY

I have been taking this drug for 9 years with no side effects or symptoms. These articles are scaring me though, I started looking up stuff because I recently went on the ring because I kept forgetting to take my pills and I found tons of law suits about the ring! Now I dont know what to do...is there a safe BC out there?

I took the "pill" three months after having my daughter and as a result I developed blood clots in both lungs. I was in the hospital for a full two weeks. I also had to take a blood thinner and have my blood drawn every week for one year.
I agree that there should be a suite filled against the makers of this drug

I took Ortho Tricyclin for a few years....this past summer I developed bilateral blood clots in my lungs. I was hospitalized for 1 week and now on coumadin for who knows how long...scared to death about taking that too! I agree that even though there are warning on the label should not excuse the fact that the drug is not safe and killing woman. I was put through a whole slew of tests to see if I had a genetic disposition to clots etc...nothing was found but with all the specialists I saw the fact that I was taking BC was a flag to them but yet noone would tell me that was the cause. I am definetly going to be pursing this....

My healthy 17 year old daughter developed pulmonary embolism about 2 months ago and almost died. Very rare, I'm told, for someone her age. She was in the cardio vascular intensive care unit of a children's hospital for 9 days. Now she is on a blood thinner. She had been taking Ortho Tri-cyclen for 3 months...it was prescribed for acne. Apparently alot of doctors are prescribing the pill these days to treat acne in teenage girls. From what I have heard, my daughter is not alone...other teenagers have developed blood clots, but I don't think there are any statistics being kept on this.
Doctors ran all kinds of genetic tests on my daughter to make sure she didn't have a pre-disposition to blood clots and all came back normal. Doctors are pretty sure it was the pill.

Shouldn't someone be raising a red flag about this?

My precious Baby girl died June 25, 2009 from using Ortho TriCyclene Lo. I agree whole heartedly with you the company should be held responsibile for the children that are dead because of this drug. Believe me we will have our say soon, and although no amount of money will bring our precious little girls back, their deaths will not have been in vain

My daughter almost died 2-1/2 years ago after taking these pills for about 6 weeks. After a week in the ICU, a clot buster procedure, and 4 titanium stents in her iliac, she took coumadin for 8 months. When the hospital released her, she underwent genetic testing, and it was found she has one bad clotting gene, known as heterzygous Factor V Leiden. More testing showed her father and I each have one bad clotting gene, but my both my son's clotting genes are defective--homozygous Factor V Leiden, something which needs to be watched carefully. My daughter cannot use any hormones ever and must have daily Lovenox shots when she becomes pregnant. I wanted to sue someone over this, but all these BC pills come with warnings, and doctors don't do any testing before prescribing them to everyone! The reason I'm posting here is that possibly some of you have the same condition and should get genetic testing if you havent' already. Take care.
