On that note; my boyfriend is worried that if I get the IUD the tip of his penis will hit the string during sex. Has this happened to anyone? He said it happened to him once but that was years ago and I wonder if device has changed. I can only speak for the Mirena IUC, but yes, this is true. I just had my Mirena removed after 3 weeks because my boyfriend could not take the Mirena poking and scraping him during sex. He is uncircumcised and on the larger side, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Your doctor can cut the strings all the way up into the canal, as a monthly check is not necessary, but this did not solve the problem for me. I was told to wait several months for the Mirena to "soften" but I was told this after insertion and did not want to wait. The "strings" are actually coiled metal and are very sharp. The good news is that this is rare, and usually people do not feel them. Hope this helps!

But I know its ok because Im getting my cycles regularly and they hurt! As far as feeling the strings...my BF cannot feel them at all! We have no problems with it Its been about a month since my insertion. I can NOT find the strings at all!!? At first, when I was brave enough to venture in there again, after insertion..I thought I felt them. No my man can not feel them at all. Best thing is not even to tell most guys (could be a subconscious mental thing, if they know about it..) it IS very important to check the strings once a month after every menstrual cycle to make sure the iud is still in place, bc sometimes I guess it can migrate further inside the uterus and in some cases implant into the uterus causing complications if left untreated. My check up is in a week so hopefully mines still good!:-/ ill have to have him teach me some tips on finding the strings...

I shutter to even think back. And my doc is awesome. If you have not had kids... It WILL hurt. BUT it is only about a 2-5 min ordeal... With searing pain 3 times. Take plenty of ib profin & some xanax about 45 min beforehand.. mine hadn't kicked in yet. I think its well worth it.. I mean imagine a baby coming out of there.. I guess its a good trade until you're ready!:) happy and hormone freeee
