i cant fill my string on my paragard is that ok and safe im 29 and have 3 kidds i just got it about 2 weeks ago do you think its ok i know yall think im crazy

I don't think you're crazy. When I first got my paraguard, it took some practice to know how to locate my strings (which isn't always easy). Call your doctor first thing in the morning and let him know that you can't locate them.

An IUD is threaded up through your vagina and into your uterus. There are two strings that hang down. Have a look at the following information about Mirena and Paraguard. http://www.mirena-us.com/howmirenaworks.html... http://contraception.about.com/od/iud/a/parag... http://video.about.com/contraception/IUD.htm |

You're welcome. I just wanted to add that every womans experience is different. I was scared too by all of the horror stories that I read. I've had my Paragard for about a year and a half with no problems. I chose it because it has no hormones and it's good for ten years. Just do as much research as you can before you make a decision. I hope all goes well for you with whatever type of birth control you choose. :)

I have had the paraguard for almost 2 months.
The insertion was OK .. one quick pain for a sec and a little blood. After that I thought I would be alright. Then I had HEAVY bleeding for weeks about 4 or 5 to be exact. The cramps were unlike anything I have experienced.* the cramps would bring me to my knees. After all that I'm happy. Finding my strings was a pain but they are there and other then heavier periods.. not much to complain about. I love it. No other side effects to speak of. I have to say though the 1st month I was ready to take it out myself.. glad I stuck with it. I'm divorced with two kids in my late 20's... if that's helpful. It seems like everyone has had a different experience. |

Ive had my copper IUD for 3 months now, and I still cant find the strings! I went to the Dr. last month its still in place...so I guess Ill keep trying!

Why do you have to find your strings? I haven't read anything else about needing to locate your IUD strings while the device is in you?
On that note; my boyfriend is worried that if I get the IUD the tip of his penis will hit the string during sex. Has this happened to anyone? He said it happened to him once but that was years ago and I wonder if device has changed. |

Your supposed to find the strings to check them. I guess to assure that the IUD is in place correctly. I still cant find them! But I know its ok because Im getting my cycles regularly and they hurt!
As far as feeling the strings...my BF cannot feel them at all! We have no problems with it |

I have had my Paragard IUD in for about a year now. Every woman's experience is different, and mine has been painful. I do have a very small build, though, and this could have something to do with my symptoms. I have never had kids and am only 5'3. Within the first month, I bled an unhealthy amount and the insertion was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. My periods STILL last for exactly 10 days, and they used to last for 4-5 before insertion. After insertion, I became very faint and (I hope this doesn't gross everyone out) had to change a super plus tampon at least 4 times a day for a good week or so. I felt as if I had direspected my body, as it was trying so hard to accept this piece of metal someone forcefully shoved into me.
The cramps are nearly unbearable on a monthly basis, and the ones I have between periods have never ceased. In fact, I've gone to see my doctor on 2 separate occasions, thinking I was pregnant or had cysts (as they may occur, and that I have known others who have had them from IUDs). Like I said, my pain could be due to my size, etc, but I must tell you that one of my friends has the Mirena, has had 2 kids, had it for a couple months, and found out she had cysts AND was pregnant. Make sure you go in for regular check ups, ESPECIALLY within the first 6 months. And by the way, my boyfriend DOES feel the strings every now and then and it does hurt him. I had mine cut the shortest possible, too. All these problems aside, the fact that you can forget about birth control for a decade alone is worth the pain, for me. With all due respect for others, remember all of the input you receive, but DON'T expect it to be painless. As stated before, everyone's experience is so different. |

Hi, good to hear I am not the only one with these questions.
I got the paragard last week, and felt the strings on the 3rd day, and yes they poked my fiance, it wasnt the most romantic night! The next day though, I think they softened up and I can feel something- but not totally sure they are the strings. I think they were cut short. Is this something I should call the dr. on and make sure its still in place? Im thinking its possible they were cut short- and poked out, and now that they are softer I cant feel them so well. Thanks ahead of time for any advice. |

i had a paragaurd put in 4 days ago and feel slight pinching and my strings all the time is this normel

WHAT DO THE PARAGUARD STRINGS FEEL LIKE??
Do they feel more like two firm wires than actual (limp) strings? I am afraid I am not feeling the strings, but the device itself. I feel two small pokey things, like bread ties. |
Do they feel firm and pokey? Or soft like actual string? |
they feel like fishing string- somewhat pokey.. not like soft string
i have had the mirena for a little while now and so far so good. except i can never find the strings with my fingers but every once in a while my boyfriend gets poked by them. so should i not even worry about not being able to feel them if my boyfriend can feel them during sex once in a while?
