Yes, I can say I am dealing with the same pain. I actually spend a night the ER and after all the scan they informed I had and rupture cyst and a small one growing on my left ovary. J mad and appt to have my iud removed on June first. Jodi K wrote: Have any of you had or had symptoms of ovarian cysts since getting the copper IUD? After having mine in for about a month (may 2009) I was having terrible and scary sharp pains on my left ovary. I thought the IUD had fallen out of place and was jabbing my ovary. Besides the random shooting sharp pains It hurt to cough, laugh, go to the bathroom, standup, although I could stand up ok if I put the pressure on my right side. It was scary. It was the weekend and it kept getting worse so we went to the ER ( I have never gone to the ER before) they did all kinds of tests and found the IUD in place and nothing wrong. After I left and the IV drugs wore off the pain was gone. I'm sure it must have been a rupturing cyst. Otherwise it would have shown up in the xray or CT scan. About every other month since then I have had bad pain down there. Not as bad as the first time usually but it is always on the left side and i get really bloated and I'm feeling it right now too. The pain is going down into my thighs this time. Always on the left ovary side though. I know it has to be a cyst. Have any of you had this since getting the IUD or during the time you had it? I do have symptoms of PCOS, but I dont have hair growth and stuff..I feel like my estrogen is super high though..it matches all of my symptoms. Anyways I'm getting the IUD out in 6 days and I'm hoping it will end whatever has been going on. I have other bad side effects from birth contol and this IUD so I wouldnt be suprised if this was the cause. Let me know if this rings a bell for anyone??

I've had my copper IUD for over 2 years now, I'm 22. The doctor explained all the risks, just like with anything you take it cannot be fool proof. She told me that cramping was going to be severe and some people have heavy periods because you aren't taking those extra hormones.
I have cramping every now and again, much more severe then when I was on the pill, but I can handle it. I used to throw up all the time from different birth control pills, and the added stress if I forget to take it or even go pick it up.
Again the copper IUD might not be for everyone. I will say it has been the best choice for me and haven't had any problems with it since the first couple of months I got it.
Also my doctor told me take ibuprofen 800 like 2 days before your period, which I did the first few months, and that helped me get through that introductory period where my body wasn't used to this foreign object.
Ladies may want to try and take tylenol before your period starts, trust me it helps a lot.

Tatiana _OB-GYN nurse wrote: With all due respect ladies, there IS a reason doctors went to school for 11-12 + years. They KNOW what they're doing. As to the ovarian cysts, if you do your research, they're VERY common in women. Almost all of us will get cysts, but most of us will not feel them and they will vanish unnoticed. Also, the mind is powerful, and it is quite likely that since some of you swore it was the IUD that was causing the cysts, once you took it out your brain sent a message to the rest of your body that the pain should subside. But guess what? It is likely that you still have and will continue to have cysts for as long as you ovulate. It is nature, NOT the copper IUD that causes cysts. As I said, as long as you ovulate you will get them. Once you stop ovulating and you still get them, then you need to get them checked since they could be cancerous. Usually hormonal contraceptives cause more cysts than what is natural because they interfere with your ovulation cycle. However, this is not the case with the copper IUD, so stop demonizing this procedure. I am an OB/GYN nurse and it amazes me the way some patients are just SO sure they know what they're talking about and their doctors don't. As with any procedure, the copper IUD is not for everybody, but in my 20 years of practice about 90% of my patients have kept their copper IUDs. Don't base your contraceptive decisions on the opinions of strangers on the net who mainly whine and complain. They're part of the 10% who did not like the copper IUD. Be smart, and base your choices on your own experience and after speaking to a PROFESSIONAL. Wow I cannot believe this crap, Doctors jobs are to diagnose you with symptoms and to give to drugs or surgery, THAT IS IT. Your talking about people whining when this lady almost lost her life?! The whole medical industry is to make billions of dollars on drugs to feed to people which in the end kills them. Sure the iud works for some women and for lots it doesn't! Having an alkaline body is the only way to stay healthy period. And shoving copper in your uterus doesn't help with that

So its been a looong time (over a year) since getting my IUD removed and I have not had that pain or those symptoms since. I was just reading through all the other people that shared their stories and it is like reliving it over again. I am convinced that is what it was. I have another friend that has a Mirena IUD and she has been in the ER a few times with horrible pain. They don't know what it is.....coincidence?? If this lil thing is causing you to not get pregnant then it is affecting your hormones in some way so I don't get why it is so hard for some people to grasp that this is what is happening even with all of the similar symptoms. Not to mention the Paragard/copper IUD website literally says they dont know "exactly" how this IUD works but blah blah..really people??Believe it or not, but I am just glad I am pain free!!!

Cause the pain is consant now without being close to my cycle. I also agree with you ladies i have had my copper iud in for a little over 6 years not only do i get the cramping but i also get my period twice a month and very heavy....i am still awaiting my results from where they did a biopsy on my cyst. Never had this problem until recently with the iud.

I had my IUD inserted about 9 months ago and I'm already experiencing abdominal pains. I went to the hospital and it's been confirmed I have ovarian cysts too. I'm confuses. If I get another one I'm definitely removing the IUD. Why don't the doctors tell us about this before we go for the IUD? It's a total waste

I had my Paragard copper iud placed 3 yrs ago and began to get exactly the same symptoms. I never had a history of cysts and I had an ultrasound taken which showed 2 smal 0.5 cm cysts o the left ovary. 6 mos later i felt worse, had bladder problems, left mod-severe pelvic pain radiating to my left lower back and left thigh to the point where I could not walk. Had another ultrasound taken which showed the 2 cysts grew from .5 m to 5.6 cm within 6 months!!!!!! the doctor was not concerned, thinking it will rupture, but I know my body & know it will grow larger. So I had my IUD removed & will have to have surgery in the next 6 weeks to remve these cysts if they do not burst by then.

If she is so educated, why is she negating her own field's credibility: Does not the latest medical"research" state birth control is known for reducing ovarian cyst production. Now she is stating otherwise! She is confusing!

I posted previously and wanted to note that my reaction to the copper IUD was real. I have since gotten a Mirena IUD and have had only a few small issues, far less bleeding-virtually no period, and minor cramping around ovulation time-2x within a 1 yr period. My doctor, whom I trust fully, originally recommended the Mirena over the copper, but I insisted on the copper because I thought it would have been better for my health and we all know where that led. The Mirena has proven to be GREAT, no hormonal issues, no discomfort and I am very happy with it. Make sure whoever inserts the device is experienced! That may have a lot to do with whether or not it is comfortable-you shouldnt feel a thing if its done right and both of mine where placed correctly- I never felt bad. My Dr also considered the possibility that I may have been allergic to copper, since I have sensitivities to other metals??? This may have contributed to my issue. Hopefully, other ladies in similar situations above, find this useful.

Not sure what you all are going through...my experience has been great. I have a Copper IUD which was done in late December 2011 after my 3rd child was born in the 1st week of November 2011. I have heavy discharge which at first I was concerned about but went to the doctor and everything checked out as normal. Also I have not had a period (Breastfeeding may play a part). My biggest problem is just having to buy a lot of panty liners cuz the moisture but the sex is the BOMB!!! Now not to be placing my biz out there but I have always had heavy cramps and bleeding during my cycle. Also, I've always been a moist girl but now its like an ocean. My husband and I ride the waves and love it.

I was on hormonal birth control for ten years (pill, ring, patch, shot.) and switched to the copper iud 5 months ago. Every other month is painful, but when I was a teenager that was how my menstral cycle was. Hormonal birth control can really effect how your periods feel. I had no sex drive while I was on them. Now that I have the copper iud my periods are more painful and some months are worse than others, but being assentially numb down there for ten years, I expect them to be. So when I have a ruptured cyst it's going to hurt. I had a cyst while on hormonal birth control and I didnt feel anything, just noticed spotting. Either way if you feel something's wrong always be safe and go to a doctor. Iuds are not for everyone. Amy wrote: Doctors DON'T always know what they're talking about, especially when it comes to women's health. I appreciate all the nurses and doctor's hard work, but unfortunately the medical community has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to women's health and for the most part women's health is still not at the forefront. I have NEVER had a problem with cysts or anything related to my menstrual cycle or vaginal and uterine health. 9 months after the insertion of the copper IUD I went to the ER (I thought I had appendicitis) After thousands of dollars on a CT scan and ultrasound I discovered I had a bleeding ovarian cyst (which the doctors said shouldn't be THAT painful) Um...okay...it was painful enough to get me to the ER, which I've never, in 35 years gone to) I got the IUD removed a couple of months later. I haven't had a problem with cysts since. I'm sorry. The doctors can tell us that copper IUDs don't cause cysts as much as they like until someone ACTUALLY does the research, publishes it, and it becomes an accepted truth. Until then, listen to your body, it is telling you EVERYTHING you need to know.

The day I got my copper IUD I started experiencing terrible pain. I told my doctors about it and they said everything looked fine. 2 years later, of intense pain on my left ovary, I finally self diagnosed myself with a cyst and told my OBGYN to please take an ultrasound. Come to find out I have an ovarian cyst the size of a small cantaloupe that will have to be surgecily removed via c section because it is too big to come out any other way! This is a serious problem and I know it was caused from that IUD. How can this NOT be advertised as a side effect. My mother has also had the IUD and ovarian cysts for years now?!?! This is reason for a lawsuit to help prevent this from happening to other innocent women.

I am a breast cancer survivor (age 31) and have a brca 1 genetic mutation. That basically means I will likely be getting ovarian cancer eventually. Recently I started to experience unbearable fatigue and disorientation and sharp abdominal pains on top of the usual cramps and bloating, along with back pain, diarrhea, and ovarian tenderness, and severe disabling depression. I thought I had ovarian cancer but ob said a cyst had just exploded and more were there. I now, a week later, and in chronic pain, am a GI disaster, and can't bend often due to shooting pains in back and pelvic region. At this point I don't know what to do. I fear I have ovarian cancer at worst, or chronic cyst problems at best.
I had a copper IUD place 6 months ago and don't know what to do. My husband could care less but I am falling over and crippled in fear, I want to die, not after prolonged illness, but rather never wake up tomorrow. If i don't make it thanks for listening to me.

Ive always had cysts come and go. Very small ones though. Not even enough to make mention to the doctor about. Just some dull pain in my rectum and lower abdomen, and itd be gone in a few days. Nothing Ibuprofen couldnt handle. I had a copper IUD put in this january. I was told to give it a few months to see what I thought. Well, many LARGE cysts later, serious charp pain to the point that I have been stopped dead in my tracks walking and have had to grab something near me to withstand the pain, its coming out. I thought Id try a method that had no hormones, and now it just didnt work for me. I hope anyone who is experiencing cysts re thinks the copper IUD. My dr said it has no hormones, so it cant be this. Well, its the only thing to have been introduced to my body since January, and they have the ultrasound results to see just how much bigger they are.
