I'm taking the Ortho tricyclen lo for about 7 months now. My doctor suggests that a brand of birth controls pills should be taken at least 3 months before coming to the conclusion of whether or not it's good or harmful for you. The first month I had more pimples and would randomly burst into tears at times, the second month my skin cleared up and I had less mood swings. Now that I've been on it for 7 months, I rarely feel side effects and have milder cramps than before

I took Yaz for 4 months and really liked it. I didn't have any of that nausea or breast tenderness that I got on other pills. I was worried about the increased potential for blood clots so I switched to Tri Cyclen Lo and I'll be starting it next week. My doctor said that she wasn't concerned about the increased chance of blood clots though, and that the chances are much higher for pregnant women (not on birth control) than someone on any birth control pill, so if Tri Cyclen doesn't work out for me I'm going to switch back to Yaz.

I definatly agree with you!!! It is the devil! Yaz put me in the hospital more than 3 times. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me, I was on that pill for 3 years and it caused abdominal pain like crazy! The doctors in the er every time thought it was apendicides and when that and the ct scans and the ultrasounds all came back negative they gave me pain meds and sent me home. I had a huge amount of hair loss, I could see my scalp. I had an ovarian sist form that was the size of a grape, depression, weight gain, and i developed migrains that to this day i still have. I am 17. I went off the yaz, against my doctors recomendations because i knew it had to be the cause of it. I have not been on the pill in a year and a half and I still have hair loss, severe pain, ovarian sist and migrains. I have had my thyroid and blood tested numerous times and all my levals are fine but my doc says it may be several years before the pill is out of my system. That pill is the devil and I wish I never would have went on it. I recommend that no one goes on it! And I hope that there is one very huge lawsuit brought up against them!

After reading all these crazy posts everywhere all over the internet, I was scared to death to try ortho lo. After deciding I had to try for myself...I realized how crazy it is to read what everyone else has to say. Just to put a positive twist on the pill, I would like to say ortho lo has been perfect for me. No weight gain, actually lost weight. No moodiness, no cramps, no acne, etc. Please try and find out for yourself rather than basing your decision on everyone else's experience.

I was on tri cyclen lo for 4 years and had no problems except that I had no sex drive. My doctor switched me to yaz, since which time I have become the moodiest jerk ever and have mild leg cramps. Oh, and still no sex drive, so that was a pointless journey. Anyone have a similar experience and a pill they would recommend?

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but my friend's best friend died recently after a blood clot traveled to her brain the night after a long bus trip (always move around when you travel for a long time!). Still, she was young (23), athletic, a non-smoker and very healthy. But she took Yaz. Her story, and some of yours, really make me wonder about this drug. There are many different types of birth control pills (they vary by the type and amount of progestin) out there, each with their own pros and cons. Talk to your doctor about your options beyond Yaz. A typical trial period is 2-3 months; you may have to try a few before finding the right one.

Personally, I've tried a few different pills (switched due to changes in doctors and pill cost) and ended up on Yaz (this was before my friend's friend died of course). Like others on forum, I felt unusually emotional and decided to go off the pill for a while (condoms are fine, especially compared to feeling like that!). I feel much better but am considering trying the pill again (because they are so effective). Thank you for sharing your experiences and advice!

I took OTC lo and it was truly awful. I was depressed, super moody, and had debilitating headaches daily. No cramps was nice, but not even close to worth it. I felt like I was going crazy and couldn't do anything about it. Switching to Yaz next month, so we will see.

I was on Yaz for 6 months. Moody, Depressed, Absolutely no sex drive. It sums up pretty much the feelings I had for the past 3 months. My boyfriend is even telling me right now to go off the pill so I can once again feel better ... Gonna try the OTC and see how that will go ...

I almost considered trying YAZ until I read all of these horror stories. Instead, I got OTCl. I think I might rather just stick to condoms because I woke up the morning after I took my first pill and threw up violently from 4am-9am. It was almost crippling. I dont know what's worse at this point. I rather have irritable mood swings and acne than throw up every morning like that. I don't want to lose weight or be in pain, or be exhausted all day at work because I woke up at three in the morning and threw up until I had to leave my house. Birth control really doesn't seem worth it. Condoms suck, but being violently ill definitely sucks more!!!!!!!!!!

I would recommend highly AGAINST triclycenlo. I took it for two months, ONLY two months and I developed really serious stomach issues that I never had before. Right now it's IBS but multiple doctors have told me that they think that it's Krones. It's really painful and embarrassing, and I have to get a colonoscopy every five years for the rest of my life now. I was only 19 when this all happened. I've actualy stumbled upon this website looking for a class-action lawsuit against it. Be forwarned!

I have been on Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo for at least eight years and have never had any problems with it. I have a normal sex drive, a steady mood, and don't have unexplained weight gain or weight loss. Ortho Tri-cyclen has never helped me with my acne but has helped me with menstrual cramps, ovarian cysts, and irregular periods. I would highly recommend it to people.

It seems like a lot of women want birth control to work immediately, but that is not how it works. On average it takes two to three months to get the correct results. I would not recommend Yaz; Yaz was the first birth control pill that i was put on and it did not work as well for menstrual cramps and I found that I had large mood swings. However, everyone is different and it is important to realize that not everyone is going to have the same results.

I would not resist a drug just because a couple hundred people got side effects. Millions of people take birth control pills, so it is likely that someone will have a reaction to it. Talk to a OB/GYN before making any changes in medication and discuss your concerns with them. We need to remember that they are the professional and have seen the good effects and bad effects of birth control medication.

I've been taking Yaz for over a year. For the last 3 weeks, my legs and feet have been swelling. I went to my primary care physician and they did an ultrasound on my heart and legs and said everything was o.k. About a week after the ultrasound, my ankles and wrists felt as if there were rubber bands wrapped around them. This happened last Saturday and again today. I stopped taking Yaz today and have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to get a different birth control pill. I really think my symptoms are from Yaz and I'm afraid it's going to really hurt me before it gets out of my system. Does anyone know how long it takes to get this out of your system? I'm scared -
Can u give an update?

I have been on Yazz for a few months and ended up with a clot in my lung no warning signs, all of a sudden I was walking down the street and had problems breathing.

There are ads on tv asking persons using Yazz to call who had clots. I don't see these adds for other birth control pils that. Tells me something. I was not on this pill for that long. I have been on many other pills for about 20 years no issues. The reason why I changed is that I was looking for one that was not causing mood issues and weight gain. I have endometriosis and so have to control my periods. Yazz solved those problems....

Needless to say I have thrown away the packet and looking for a progesterone only pill. Don't have a death wish. Dr's said I was very lucky did not die, I take that very seriously and so should all women and Dr.s.

Is there any lawsuits against Ortho Tri Lo? I am only 27 years old and have a pulmonary embolism. I was in the ICU for 11 days. I also developed a serious heart condition caused by the embolism. The doctors said the most likely cause was probably the birth control.

I can't say what's going to end up being right for you, BUT I have noticed this:
We (women) seem only to complain about what's not right and not so inclined to put in a good word for what works.(I've been on several sites, forums, etc. searching for info re: birth control b/c I'm looking too.)

I had a miscarriage about a year and a half ago and my hormones are acting like I'm starting menopause ever since, so I'll talk about before the miscarriage.

Naturally, my periods were extremely predictable, on the lighter side of medium (not heavy at all), I had at least a week of PMS/PMDD (EVERYONE knew when my periods were coming), and they lasted 7-10 days.
I used Mercette and it hated me. I used the patch and the ring and they hated me too. I tried Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and we were happy together for about a year (I was taking it for migraines and it worked to decrease them). My pharmacist switched me to Sprintec (not tri-phasil) and I didn't even notice, except the price was lower.

Post-miscarriage: My periods have been down right irratic, PMS/PMDD is/are like two weeks long. I tried OTCL and it was GREAT, just like I remember it, for the first week. Then the progestin increased and... I was in the corner of my yard crying about how the miscarriage was all my fault (it wasn't, there wasn't anything that anyone could have done, I'm just getting too old) and my four children were all trying hard to make Mommy feel better and help me stop crying, etc, etc. It seemed to have scared them (even my 12yo was worried about me). That was day two of the light blue pills. I didn't take another pill.

Hope this helps. I'm sorry it's so long!:-) All the best to you!
