Best position is to sit on toilet...spread legs and put middle finger all the way up. You have to feel around. It took me a couple mins to find them after not checking for a month. I love mine. I will have one every 5 years for sure. Best of luck!

so i've had my iud for almost a year now, and for the last month i 've tried to find my strings and i can feel the very ends if i push really hard which in turn makes me bleed. but since about a month after i got it i haven't had a period, till this month. i never have a period unless another women in the house has hers (i live with all guys, and my roommies gf lol) but this last one i bled the most i've ever bled, the cramps weren't too bad. the thing is, if the iud goes too far up can that cause problems? and are there hormones in the iud? idk it feels like i'm more moody lately but i can't pin point the exact problem... the iud was suggested to me and since i don't have the best memory the pill was a no, and i hate shots. so did i choose an ok birth control or did i get myself into something...
help?

Hi, I only had mine inserted today, lol. I too, have no idea where the darn treads are. After reading these post I decided not to worry about it just yet. Though it was sort of funny the ways I tried to locate them, think I will ask my husband to check once the cramping is gone. Thanks ladies & good luck to all, hope we all succeed in holding pregnancy off as long as we would like. God bless u all.

I got my IUD about 4 months ago. I have NEVER been able to feel the strings....but my boyfriend can. I ask him all the time if he still feels them....yep they are there. Lol... I don't know whether my finger isn't long enought or what? The I.U.D. is definitely still effective as I don't have periods and I'm not pregnant although regularly sexually active. I am worried though that it is positioned wrong. Does anyone know if the I.U.D. is has moved up to the cervix if this can create any long-term damage or problems? tammy wrote: Hello, I have had my iud in for about 3 weeks, just started my first period, day one crampy but not too bad. Problem is I have not been able to find my threads for a couple of days, hubby found them a couple of days ago but nothing since. I read somewhere that your cervix `changes shape` during your period and can make threads harder to find. Does anyone know anything about this?. Obviously I will need to see my dr if they don`t reappear but I don`t want to seem as though I am panicking. Any thought, tips appreciated. Tammy

This has really helped me , thanks alot everyone. i had my Mirena IUS fitted about 4 weeks ago and cannot find the threads at all. Maybe I am not going up far enough! Will check when period arrives or just after as you all seem to be suggesting....haven't had a period yet so will check then....

I got my iud a few months ago and I have been able to feel them. My doctor kept them long so it would be easier to feel because I have such short small fingers, but now I really have to get in there. I've tried every position and its still very hard for me to feel them... help please

I have had my iud for three years and love it! I have nevr checked my strings and have had lighter almost non exsistent periods. It is one less thing i have to worry about in my day plus i got pregnant with both my girls on the pill. I am much happier with my iud yes it was painful the first day but great after that!

I have never been able to feel my threads. When we are having sex my boyfriend is able to feel the threads and that has been reassuring. I recently visited my doctor and he said not to worry about it at all. Besides my boyfriend being able to periodically feel the threads it is also reassuring that I know longer have my period (and of course that I am not pregnant even though sexually active). All I can say is that I might check with your doctor but there is no need to panic. It is more than common that you can't feel the threads. Your period should be light for a couple months (like a light pink flow). As long as you don't see any other indicators that the IUD is not there I would not worry about that you don't feel the threads. Hope this helps calm your nerves. Meg

I had my mirena placed about a month ago. My doctor never told me too look for strings but scheduled an appointment to make sure it's still in place. I have never felt the strings. My partner did the first time we had sex, he said they poked him. The second time he said they were softer but he could still feel them only slightly. Now he says he couldn't feel them at all. I'm a little worried that it moved. My appointment isn't for another week and I'm terrified that it moved. My period just ended and it was super light with breakthrough bleeding and on/off cramping throughout the month. So I'm hoping it's still in there and doing its job. I'm pretty sure she cut them short. Also I've never had children or been pregnant so I'm suret the chances of it moving might not be high. I'm just looking for something to ease my mind.

Ive had my IUD since april 2011. When it was put in I cramped for a few days but that might have been because I got it put in immediately after my abortion. I couldn't put anything in my vagina for 3 weeks so I never tried to feel for the strings but after that my bf said he felt them and they were uncomfortable so I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. I haven't got a period since. After about 4 months mirena gave me some pretty nasty side effects (MAJOR mood swings and acne) but they go away. I checked today and can't feel the strings.this worries me because of some stories I've heard about having to have surgery. But I'm gonna give it some time and see if they surface again. Has anybody ever had to have surgery for this?? I hope they come back :/
