I have always suffered from moderately bad skin since my early teens, so when I was 16 I was given antibiotics to help clear it up. After a year or so with little success my doctor put me onto Dianette. Within 2-3 months my skin was virtually perfect, apart from the odd spot around the time of my period. As well as this I used to suffer from awful cramps on the first day of my period and they disappeared instantly. I had been taking dianette for 2 years in total and I gained 1 and a half stones which has since proved impossible to shift. I found that I didn't just magically gain weight (although my boobs did) but my appetite increased dramatically. About 8 months ago I stopped taking dianette as I no longer needed it for contraception, I thought I would give my body a break as you are not advised to take it for a long period of time. My skin problems are just as bad as they were before I went on the pill, cramps are back etc. I was hoping my doctor would put me on Yasmin as I really didn't want to stay on Dianette for too long. I suggested this to her (another doctor I saw suggested I move to Yasmin in the future) but she told me that Yasmin was too expensive and has put me back on Dianette! I think if I find myself gaining more weight this time around then I will go back and plead for her to put her on Yasmin (or maybe going and see the doctor that suggested it in the first place)

Hi Girls,
I'm portuguese and I'm 44 years old. I think I've allways suffered from PCOS, but only realized that recently. I was on Dianette for years and looking back now I realize my mood swings were linked to the pill. Two months ago I took Valette and I thought I was going insane. I had terrible panic attacks and got so depressed.I came off the pill for two months now, but I'm still not myself. I made some research in the internet and found out I was not the only one. Girls, please, don't take any pill. No matter what kind of pill you take you will lose interest in sex, so what's the point? I'm very fond of my acne now, it's either that or being depressed all the time. If I had a daugther, I would definitely discourege her about taking any pill. |

I started taking Dianette about 2 or 3 years ago. I found it worked wonders for me. my skin really cleared up, and felt and looked glowing. I also never ever got a spot - not even near my period time. it really boosted my confidence. then last year i decided to come off the pill, thinking my spots wouldnt come back and my skin had cleared up for good. little did i know i was completely and utterly wrong. i was only off it for a MONTH befoer my skin went really bad again. i went back on the pill straight away. and i have to say, after only being off dianette for a month my skin has never been the same again. a year on and im still gettin bad spots and hav oily greasy skin. ive been back on dianette for over a year and it hasnt done anything for me now. i wish i never stopped it. has anyone got any recommendations of an alternative? is yasmin good? has anyone else found that after coming off dianette, it doesnt work again? im getting really depressed now as i am getting married next year and i just dont want to be a spotty bride!
i would say from my experience - if you are taking dianette for skin - dont come off it. it works wonders and is really good. |

I have been on Dianette for over a year now, and its help my skin clear up no end. But I understand that some people suffer from side effects from taking it, if so you should try Spironolactone I have heard good reports from Lucinda Ellery about this product.
anyway I get my dianette prescription from www.hairtreatment4u.co.uk but they sell spironolactone there as well just a thought :) |

I have been researching Dianette on the internet as my daughter who is 16 has been on Tetracycline for acne for the last 3 years. It worked brilliantly until the last 3 months- the doctor suggested Dianette but having read various reviews i am not sure if she should start taking this pill. She came off Tetracycline for 3 weeks in July and started erythromycin but quickly switched back to tetracycline however after being back on it for 3 months her skin is the worst it has ever been.I know she is desperate not to gain weight as is really sporty but her skin is really awful. has anyone else had problems with tetracycline after having a short break?

Hi everyone.
well I was put on dianette when i was 13 for acne it was the only thing that has ever worked adn my skin is great on it and i feel great. doctors keep swaying me away from dianette and ive tryed microgynon in the past didnt agree with me at all i got headace and felt yuk. i recently have srted yasmin I have just finished the second packet of 3 and feeling really awful really depressed crying and angry i had a little inclin it may be this pill but it came so highly reccomended by the doctors i thought i would try but after researching i feel better as i see other women are experiencing the same things so i am sure it is this pill as i have nothing to be this down about and i am usualy a veru upbeat positive spiritual person. i would love to be pill free altogether but i have had breaks and slowly my spots come back and then into acne. so i think i will go back to the good old trust worthy diantte :.) good look everyone hope you find whats best for you. trust yourself :.) xx |

Hi Maria,
I have been on Dianette for 14 years (was initially prescribed because of acne, due to too strong pill), and absolutely loved it..... not one problem, no cramp, and perfect skin! Now my doctor here in the UK refuses to prescribe dianette, and put me on yasmine.... Ijust started it so I can't comment on Yasmine, but Dianette is only positive for me (no weight gain, no acne, regular painless period). |

I have been on Dianette, started for acne, for around give or take 17 years. I have had breaks in between and have tried other pills in the past. I am thinking about coming off and trying Yasmin, after a lot of research, as I am having so many side effects on the Dianette now, i.e. horrendous mood swings, non-existent sexual drive, migraines (including visual disturbances) and various others. I am worried though as my skin has been so good now for years and it seems that a lot of people are getting worse skin by swapping. I have read so many different reviews and opinions I am really confused!

I have been on Dianette for about 5 years its great for skin althought stress levels are also a factor with this, i am thinking of going on Yasmin as people are referring to this as safer yet still effective, i experienced a slight weight gain on 'D' only about a stone in a year, also difficult to shift but i believe all pills have some side effects and weight gain isnt the worse one, my periods are lighter on this pill too, is anyone has any experience of going from 'D' to Yasmin please let me know...

Try dianette, then Yaz. Personally, i tried to kill myself on yasmin because it gave me such 'dark thoughts' and made my acne rocket back. Dianette i hate being on because of the higher DVT risk but i had no side effects from it.
Medication is different person to person, one persons experiences may not be yours so i'd suggest Dianette first (because it was the first and more effective against acne) and Yaz after. Good luck |

I was on dianette for years but due to the fact you shouldn't take it
Long term I switched to Yasmin, my skin stayed ok with the normal few spots every now and again but I have been very emotional on Yasmin, had pins and needles, numb legs, anxious, nauseus, I remember when I first started taking it I said to my friend that I felt like I was a hormonal 16 year old again I just wanted to cry for no reason, that settled down but I then experienced mood swings, pins and needles, depression etc...I tried to Come off Yasmin and my skin and hair got excessively oily...I'm back on Yasmin for two weeks now and the pins and needles, nausea and anxiety has returned...I'm debating going back to dianette. Unfortunately I think every contraceptive pill will lower your sex drive! |

hey just wondering did anyone find taking dianette caused thinning of hair

I was on Dianette for a short period of time for acne and it created emotional problems almost immediately (anxiety/weird thoughts/depression). I was later informed by another doctor that Dianette is not recommended for that very reason. Each person is different though. I have been on Yasmine as well as Yaz. They are the same hormones but in different doses. Yasmine has more hormones. My experience was that Yasmine had some breakthrough bleeding for the first month, my skin broke out in tons of little tiny pimples, and then cleared up BEAUTIFULLY. I did not have any emotional reactions (no anxiety/depression). With Yaz, I had more breakthrough bleeding but it did clear up my skin okay. For me Yasmine was the very best.

Make sure you recognize there is a difference between Yaz and Yasmine. Yasmine has a higher level of hormones, is more effective at treating acne, and typically has less breakthrough bleeding. My experience was just the opposite--Dianette created "dark and bizzare" thoughts. Each is different but I would recommend Yasmine. Best |

I think with all forms of contraceptive pill you have to be careful with your diet! im on dianette a month and i noticed i put on about 3 pounds but when i thought about it i realised i wasnt being healthy n i was eatng what ever i wanted!! so now im back on a diet regieme (just eating healthy and not everytime i feel hungry as i feel the pill makes u feel hungry when u shouldn really be!!)and 2 of the pounds are gone in just a week!! the pill effects everyone differently! the 1st time i went on the pill i lost a stone and the second time i put on half a stone! im hoping dianette will help my skin! iv noticed its not as oily as befor but my spots havnt cleared yet im sure dat wont happen for a while tho!!!
