Also, I've noticed that when I am having sex with my boyfriend I am kind of dry down there (which has never been a problem for me before). Is this happening to anyone else?? I'm thinking about being switched over but I don't know what to take. I've also noticed that I have been trying to lose weight to no avail :( I feel really hopeless and I'm about to give up on birth control all together and just resort back to condoms! Just read this after posting my comment. Exactly the same problem as me! I'm really dry down there, probably because I can't get turned out. So lame.

I started taking Microgestin FE on 10/24/09. The next day I was LETHARGIC, didn't want to get out of bed. It is now 10/28/09, each day is getting worse, lethargy is worse along w/ being sad, not caring about much, leg cramps, burping, hot flashes, not interested sexually- dry, & I am starving. Feel like I am losing my mind! I am usually so happy go lucky! Called Planned Parenthood, told the nurse my symptoms, she said my body is mimicking being pregnant & these symptoms could last up to 3 months. For some women there are no side effects, this doesn't seem to be my case or many of the other women on this board. I did not take my pill today, & notice I am not feeling as crazy today. Years ago I tried Depo Provera (The shot) I had awful side effects from that as well. Thank you ladies for posting your experiences, w/out your knowledge I would be trusting the wrong people who just want my money every month for this awful pill.

Ive been on Microgestin FE 1/20 for almost a month now. I never have very good luck with birth controls. I was off and on Yaz and that made my PMS symptoms worse(which I already have extremly mad PMS sypmtoms). So trying a different birth control I was sceptical the first couple weeks was great. But now I've been extremly depressed and have and really bad mood swings. Im just now experiencing abdominal cramps and ive gaind 10lbs already just this month that I've been on it! I need to be on birth control but I can never find the right kinds to be on and I don't know if I should quit this one.

I am an emotional mess due to Microgestin. I cry at everything all of the time. This is very abnormal for me.

I am very glad I came across this website and now I know I'm not losing my mind. I HATE this pill.. I was on lo estrin 24 fe before and it was wonderful.. I got this cause it was cheaper but I have been having two periods a month and my mood swings have been awful.. I have also felt very depressed, anti social and I want to sleep ALL the time. For the FIRST time since I have been sleeping with my very hot boyfriend of 8 months, I was not horny AT ALL.. completely dry and i just wanted it to be over. I have NEVER felt like that in my life. SCREW this. I am calling my doctor tomorrow, I will not suffer another month of this.. the fda needs to ban this awful pill.. PS my hair has also suffered. It's extremly dry and falling out

I've taken this pill for years now. I've had great success with it regulating my periods, and have had no weight gain from it. However, like so many others have written, I've experienced depression and low sex drive. I always thought these conditions stemmed from illness - I'm a cancer suvivor, and also have several chronic illnesses. My doctors have all agreed with this as well, but solutions have been few and far between. Could it be the pills?! I have noticed my sex drive and moisture increase if I start a new pack a day or so late. And I seem to feel better during that time as well. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Are doctors not making this connection, or is it just the few of us on this site with the problems?

Hey I just started Microgestin FE 1-20 last night after coming off of Yasmin for the past 2 years, after reading all of this i'm scared. Yasmin had me going through depression etc so my Gyno recommended Microgestin, are there any one who have had no problems with this drug? Drugs are all bad,too many dam side affects. I wish I did not had to take any but I just got married and we are not ready for kids yet. Men should start taking birth controls so that women don't have to go through so much, lol.

I have tried several options and microgestin 1/20 works best for cramps and clears skin. Yet I have no sex drive, I keep gaining weight and I am nauseous. Has anyone else been puking up foam???? Is this from the pill?

I actually read these comments before starting this pill and now I am back since I have been taking it for almost a month now. The first week I noticed the definite change in mood.I just wanted to cry and do nothing else. Since I expected this and figured it would only last a while it was okay. The second weak on the pill I began to breakthrough bleed a little. Then it ended up lasting 2-3 weeks and was regular & steady, I am now due for my period in 2 days and am still bleeding...I did call the dr. about this after the first week of bleeding & she assured me it was just my body getting used to it. I've also began waking up in the middle of the night with extreme cramps. I woke up almost every morning this month feeling like I was going to vomit... funny that birth control made me feel like I was actually pregnant...I also have been getting headaches. After the first month I amwondering if this pill just is nottt for me. Should I give it some more time to allow my body to hopefully get used to it? Waking up every morning and trying to make it to work with headaches, cramps, bleeding, & nausea is getting to really be tooo much for me. When will it enddddd????

I have been on birth control pills on and off for nine years now. I was on Kariva for a long time, but began suffering severe emotional PMS and my doctor switched me to Microgestin 1/20. I have now been on Microgestin for about 7 months, and my symptoms have gotten increasingly worse.
When I first switched to Microgestin, my PMS symptoms improved greatly and I was happy with the pill. Slowly, side effects started. First, I began missing my period. I would have no spotting whatsoever. Though this was alarming, I was never pregnant and was not too concerned with my missed periods (who would complain about that???:)). But then I began gaining weight- only in my breasts and hips- and I have now gained about 10 lbs. I am a very active person and exercise almost everyday, but have noticed that in addition to the weight gain, I have lost some of my muscle definition. Again, an annoyance, but not enough for me to get off the pill.
About a month ago, the side effects really started. I have a history of anxiety and depression, but have managed to control both through diet, exercise and supplements (B vitamins, fish oil, Vitamin D). I had not had a panic attack in several years until last month. First came the obsessive thinking, low self esteem, and crying spells. I was convinced that my fiance would leave me, though I had no real reason to think this. I also had a terrible headache that would not go away for several weeks. Then the panic attacks started, and depression set in. In the last week, I have had 5 or 6 severe panic attacks, terrible mood swings, and awful depression. I began spotting today and my anxiety is slightly better, but I was beginning to think I was BIPOLAR!
I stopped taking Microgestin yesterday and have absolutely no plans of taking it again. My doctor wants me to consider an IUD, but I am concerned about the pain many women experience. Can anyone share their experiences with IUDs? I aboslutely cannot live like this, but the idea of going back to condom use is frustrating (I have been with my fiance for 6 years). Thank you!

Everyone reacts differently to birth control, I was on Yaz for about a year and had to stop it because it was making me depressed and it was killing my sex-drive which was aiding to my depression. I switched to microgrestrin (loestrin,) and so far things have been great! I initially gained a bit of weightt but i was able to loose it easily,(further research explained with any birth control, with the exception of Yaz and yasmin due to their diuretic effects, makes you gain weight. Its your body adjusting to the hormones.) so now about 6 months in I've only skipped 1 period a bit scary but the benefits outweigh the unwanted side effects. My acne is still better than my pre-birth control times but yaz did a better job at clearing it up. Yaz has hormone that has anti-androgenic effects. In most women its the androgens in our bodies that gives us acne. So now i'm only finding that my breakouts (1-2 zits) occur in times that i'm under stress. I tried both the microgestin 21 and the loestrin 24 and had no problems switching to generic (mircogestrin is loestrin 24 with only 4 less active pills)due to my tight budget i kept with the generic because i had no difference in the length of my period. Again everyone is different so i just wanted to share my experiences.

Courtney wrote: I've been on Microgestin FE 1/20 for a little over six months now. I switched to that from Yasmin b/c the side effects were too much (extreme nausea, adomenal craps), and my gyno thought I should switch to a pill with less hormone dosage (hence the 20 mg now).(I don't take anyother presecribed medication, so I'm not used to having to watch out for noticeable side effects from drugs.) The pill was great at first, no nausea, no cramping, no break-thru bleeding; when I did get my period, there was hardly any bleeding even, my acne has definetly decreased, and my boobs got bigger.(Kind of nice not having to buy pads that often!). Unforunately, I did notice that my sex drive decreased, I'm not even interested in being sexual or thinking about it (though that might just personally be me, I'm not sure). I don't even feel like getting off once in a while...it's annoying b/c I have a boyfriend now and I'm unsure about having sex with him (like I said, this part may not be related to the pill)...but I'm worried that the pill has decreased my sex drive. Also, when I began the 7th month of Microgestin, I noticed that everytime I take the pill at night after eating dinner, I get stomach/abdomen pains, I don't feel really nauseous, but I become bloated and burp a lot. I only get this discomfort after I take the pill, I don't feel the same feelings in the morning after eating breakfast or lunch. Could this discomfort be caused by the pill? And also, I'm afraid Microgestin might be giving me depression, b/c I don't feel happy anymore on a daily basis. Sure, it's different when I'd go to work (I work with little kids, so of course I have to appear happy at least). But I've noticed I've become more negative than usual and experience a few social anxiety symptoms...Maybe I already had a bit of depression and social anxiety, but could Microgestin be making it worse? I'm considering just going off the pill...I don't think I'd want to switch to something else right now though it's annoying to have to make an appointment with the gyno and try something new. Like I said before, since I don't take anyother presribed meds (birth control has been my first prescription for a long time), I don't like having to watch out for the side effects. Anyone have any ideas on if these "side effects" is related to Microgestin? I'm disappointed b/c this pill has had some good side effects, but if I'm afraid it's making me depressed, then I wouldn't want to continue with it. If anyone has anything to share, or have taken this birth control pill, I'd love to hear your input! Thanks so much. I have been on Microgestin Fe for about 8 months now and I have gained 15 lbs. I am moody and cry for no reason and i have been unable to restrain myself from sabbatoging my relationship. I am going off of it IMMEDIATELY. I would rather risk using condoms that all this bullshit. I'm getting a copper IUD with NO hormones.
