I used to take low-ogestrel and i loved it, i'm switching back because not only is it a safer pill but I hate the new pill that I am on, but that is neither here nor there.

shauna - If you have a history of headaches low-ogestrel is not for you, it can cause migraines, and was the reason i was switched off of it. it is also a pretty high hormone pill, so that is probably the reason you are having bleeding problems. I never had breakthrough bleeding on this pill, but my periods were heavier during the placebo week than they were on other pills. Which i didnt have a problem with, but some people do.

Liz - its not abnormal to skip a period when changing pills, or for it to take a couple of packs for your period to regulate itself again. Its just your body getting used to the different hormones used in the pills.

It was exactly like a normal cycle, although the bleeding was pretty light after the first day. I had zero break-through bleeding on low-ogestrel. I hope this pill works for you!

Hi. I am 17 and have very irregular periods so I was taking a pill called Quasense. It's the pill that makes you have a period every three months. It made me bleed very heavily the entire time I was taking it. So I switched to Low-Ogestrel. I have just finished my first month and I have not had my period. Only a very small amount of pink on the toilet paper after going to the bathroom. Is this normal. And I have not had unprotected sex. My partner used a condom and this was strictly a one time thing. And that was about a month ago. I have not tested for pregnancy. Someone please answer me.

sometimes you will skip periods on any birth control pill. Your body is probably all out of wack from the synthetic hormones from the other pill and the hormones from the new pill. its practically impossible that you are pregnant. give it another month, if you dont get get your period then call your doctor.

I was taking loestrin. I was bleeding twice a month. The second and fourth week. I just started the Low-Ogestrel-28. I'm really hoping the breakthrough bleeding wont continue.
Has anyone done this same switch? Hope someone can help me out!

Hi. I was actually put on 'OGESTREL-28' in Oct. 08. to slow down the bleeding I was having, as I was hemorraging, and this was suppose to have slowed it down some. It didn't. I wasn't on Birth Control prior to this for about 6yrs. I am writing this as an F.Y.I. in hopes that it will help someone else out there from going through what I did after being put on this. If you are a smoker, or have a history of blood clots in your family, do not take this. Two weeks to the date of which I was put on the 'OGESTREL-28', I was hospitalized with a double pulmonary edemia in my left lung. One out of every 12 people die from just one "P.E." and I had two. I spent 11 days in the hospital becuase of this, two blood transfusions and two D&C's and a ablasion. My Ob-gyn, is almost certain that the blood clots were from the 'OGESTREL-28'. I now have to stay on blood thinner until my dr.'s feel it is safe if at all to no longer stay on it. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, Please make sure you are aware of all side affects of any birth control that you are on, and know that if you should begin having shortness of breath, or and extreme amount of water rentention in you lower extrmeities, call your doctor immedialtely. I already had a history of asthma, which till then was quite mild.

[I couldn't believe your comments since I ended up in the hospital on Feb. 5th. I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my leg and lung. What a nightmare! It was from Ogestrel-28. I had complained to my OB/GYN about pains in my calves and a feeling of tightness in my legs. Everyone needs to be aware of the possiblity of blood clots. It came on so quickly, and I was lucky I called the doctor on-call to get it checked out at the hospital immediately. In the hospital, I had a blood transfusion, GI scope, colonoscopy, and complications with the Coumadin. Oh goodness! After five days in the hospital, I was glad to get home. I will be on be on blood thinner for the next six months. I am so glad to be feeling better now. What a scary ordeal!

You are so right about it being a nightmare. When I was first told I had the blood clots and was moved to ICU, I was numb, I couldn't believe it, and that any slight move I made could cause them to move and possibly kill me. Within less than 24 hrs they took me down to put in what is called a green screen, to prevent any further blood clots from moving up to my heart or lungs again. I knew I would be on the coumadin for a year at min. but am still on it. Not to thrilled with it. Did they explain everything to you regarding diet and what you can and can't eat while on it? Or what over the counter meds you can and can't take while on it? It's crazy. But we both managed to live through it, and thats whats important.

I just started taking Low-Ogestrel on March 7, 2010 while I was sick with strep throat (which I didn't know until two days ago). When I took the first pill, my period was full of old blood and I didn't know if I should have taken the pill or not, but I figured why not. Since then I've been having some annoying cramps like I was having my period but the signs never showed (assuming because of the pills). I've also had pain in my breasts (which I have never experienced before) and shortness of breath (maybe because I'm still getting over being sick and I do have asthma). I've also had minor bouts of feeling sick to my stomach (maybe because of the meds that I'm taking since I was sick?). Mood-swings have been a regular part of my day... Although I am normally a moody person. My depression (which I had before the pill) has gotten a little worse.
I don't believe that I could be pregnant, but with some of the signs there, and me being a worry-wart (even when there's _nothing_ to worry about), I've been really stressed and anxious.
I hope that these symptoms tone themselves down after I finish this first pack or I may stop taking it all-together.

Amanda, noone knows theirselves better than you do. Normally you wouldn't start taking the pill until after you had finished your cycle. The cramps may be a side affect from the Low-Ogesterel, however, don't take you shortness of breath lightly, even though you have asthma. I do too, and at first thought that was the problem,I was on the low-ogesteral exactly 10 days when I was admitted to the hospital with the double blood clots in my left lung. I also felt a heaviness in my chest, which may or may not be the same feeling you are having, when you mentioned your breast were sore. If you notice any swelling in your legs, ankles or feet, tightness in your chest, no difference in you shortness of breath, even after you use your inhaler, contact your physician immediately!
This particuar birth control is also used to slow down a heavy period or even stop it, in your case since you took them while you were still bleeding, this may have stopped the bleeding and shortened your period lenghth. Don't panic, just pay close attention to how you feel, again you know your self better than anyone else, use your own judgement, and proceed accordingly.
