This is my 1st month and I'm experiencing the same "side effects" as if I would be pregnant (frequent trips to the bathroom, my stomach/feet are bloated, and I wake up very hungry). On top of everything, I feel like I'm out of breath when climbing up the stairs. That never happened to me before. I tested just to be sure and I'm not pregnant.
Did anyone had the same unusual side effects? I'm not really too crazy about the pill but have to finish the pack anyway and not mess up my cycle. Will go back to the old-condom way starting next month.

I am one week in - I was on it a year ago, I was so concerned about gaining weight, although I did gain weight by the end I am not sure it was from this pill. I was on it all last summer and I remained to stay thin while I maintained my diet, then into the fall is when I gained the weight...so I am thinking it was just the colder months that made me eat a bit more.
I am now feeling bloated, I know there must be a daily vitamin that helps with water retention...??
My mother says B6, but I dnt think it does anything. Unless there is something that is actually going to release this water then im not going to try...any suggestions?

This is my 5th month taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and I just started my 3rd week of pills and I've been spotting since Saturday. I had a problem with breakthrough bleeding during my 3rd month and I called my doctor and she said to just continue taking the pill and if it happened a second month in a row to call her, but it didn't it was perfectly fine. I'm not sure if I sure call this month due to the spotting or not. Other than that I really love this pill nothing has changed in me at all. And my acne has actually cleared up! So I don't really want to change but it sucks spotting.

one more thing, does anyone get dizzy when they work out? I used to work out rigorously for an hour and feel fine(running/weight lifting/kickboxing/cycling, etc). Now on the pill (OTL) I will do the same workout and feel 1. dizzy while working out and 2. dizzy the rest of the day. To the point where I think I'll black out walking home from the gym.
Has anyone else experience this side effect?
I started Ortho-tri--Lo two months ago. I started to feel dizzy a week later and a week ago I blacked out in my hotel room. I gained 12 pounds around my waist and look bloated and have zero sex drive now..... I am starting the green color pill in my second package of Ortho- Lo which formaulted qwith no hormone...so today is my last day to take these pills for good....

Hey...I am on the depo shot now, but one of my friends got pregnant while on the shot and i wanted to switch to the ortho tri cyclen pill and was wondering if anyone has gotten pregnant on that or knows anyone who did. Plus i want to get off the shot because it is makin me shed a little bit. If anyone can give me any info that would be great..thanx
Cassie, i have taken ortho tri cyclen to regulate my period and help with cramps. It worked great! That is until i got pregnant with my son. This is a great pill to help with cramps and to regulate your period but you might want to consider another pill to help prevent pregnancy.

This is my second month of OTC LO...I'm into my second week. I had no side effects that I noticed other than a few headaches the first few days. My breasts did get larger adn I think I gained a couple pounds. The worst side effect however has been acne. It's worse than ever! I have it all over my jaw and I'm starting to get cystic pimples in places on my face that I never broke out before. All in all I'm very frustrated because I finally found a pill with minimal side effects but my skin looks terrible. Has anyone else experienced this?!
did it get better? your acne?

Okay so just finishing up month 2.

So far - I have gained about 7 pounds, this is my own fault because it has been because I am eating like crazy. My appetite is highly increased, this could be from the pill or it could be from the change in weather (fall). Now that I know I'm conscious of it I am trimming down those pounds and going to get back to my regular weight.(I am 5.5 at 130lbs)

My breasts - they are about two full sizes bigger (which is why I went on the pill). They got bigger without any pain but the past two days they have been very sore, I don't mind this tenderness, this just means they are swollen..not a big deal. Plus my period is suppose to start in three days so that is probably why.

Other than those two things, everything is great. The low dosage made me wonder if my breasts would grow, at first - without feeling any tenderness on them I was spectacle....they are huge again (love this)

Everyone needs to understand that birth control is different for everyone, if you see the signs that are bad you need to go off and try another. Don't torture yourself, god knows we are all full of enough emotions, the last thing we need to do is make ourselves go crazy by choice ;)

I am on my 5th week of taking Ortho Tri-Lo. My mood swings are pretty intense going from crying to anger in a matter of moments. I am also on a full period, day 7, and it wasn't even "time" for me to be on my period. I have had some sort of bleeding for the past 3 weeks. My doctor says that all these symptoms should subside after three months. In the past I have struggled with depression and taking these pills seems to be bringing up some of that. In the middle of hormone struggles I am planning a wedding, moving and quitting my job. Has anyone had a similar side effects with this drug? I would love to know that I am not alone and that, hopefully, all will calm down in another month or so. Thanks. It is helpful to read the words of others in similar situations.

I've been on Ortho-Lo for 8 months now and my body has remained some what the same. I do feel it effects my mood heavily. I am way more emotional than I ever was and cry for any little thing. I feel like a i'm 8 again and I'm 18!! I have a week to decide if i want to remain on the pill... I wonder if I could get off the pill for a month or 2 to see if it really is effecting my mood but I don't think I can do that. HELP!

hi elena,
yes everything you wrote i experienced too in my first month on this pill. the breathlessness on stairs is insane, the weight gain, breast tenderness & getting bigger, etc etc. i only realized today this was all due to this pill. also very moody. and no sex drive. it is helping with my oily skin, acne, which is why i am on it in the first place. very dissapointing that women have all this crap to always deal with.

I've been on Trinessa, the generic of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for about a year and a half. I've had no side effects except that if I do not take the pill with at least a little food I get EXTREMELY nauseous. I've enjoyed very light and regular, almost cramp-free periods, no spotting, and NO pregnancies. I would definitely recommend this birth control pill.

I tried everything trying to clear up my acne... birth control didn't work, but Clinque Medical (face wash you can get from a dermatologist or probably somewhere that does facials) worked wonders on my face.

As far as this birth control goes, I started out on it in July, everything was fine the first time around, my insurance company always wants me to have the generic brand, so the pharmacy put me on Tri-Lo Sprintec. That was the worst experience of my life, moody, rapid heart beat, convinced I was pregnant, etc... I ended up switching back to the Brand name 4 days into my second pack. I have lost most of the horrible side effects from the Tri Lo, but now I am experiencing extreme nausea and dizziness, abdominal pain, breast tenderness etc... I took a pregnancy test, it came back negative. Now what? Is it just side effects from switching and will it go away? I don't how much more of this I can handle. Has anyone else experienced this?
