Hey Lindsey, I was on that birth control and it did stop the horrible cramps I experienced. However, if I did not take the pill while eating I woke up the next morning feeling sick to my stomach, dizzy, and I blacked out once. So take it with food. It may not affect you the same. Good luck.

I have been taking Ortho- lo for 4 years now. I also took it to regulate my period i had periods that lasted 7-10 days and at one point i went a few months with out a period at all. it relieved most of my cramps, i did not gain weight and i have no side effects at all. I take it at night around 10 pm before i go to bed every night (with out food) and I have not had any problems. But obviously, it effects everyone differently. Im looking into switiching to that new pill where your period only lasts for 3 days... thats exciting =) i just cant remember the name =/ well good luck!!

I've been taking ortho lo for almost 3 months to also regulate my periods and I think it is great. I know my period to the day and I feel so much better my mood swings are not nearly as bad and I don't break out as much as I use to I personally love this stuff. I got nauseaus a couple times but I've taken it with and without food and either way i don't notice a difference. Best of luck to you.

I was on Depro Vera for seven years and I can say I've regretted being on it at all. I've had so many problems with it and now they say I might even be sterile because noone told me that your suppose to be on it for a max of 2 years and off 1 year then back on 2 and so on. All my sisters and mother have been on it and never got pregnant, I think its rare for the shot. One of my sisters was sterile for 3 years because of the stupid shot and gained a lot of weight, IT took her a long time to feel better after she got off it.
Depro Vera can really screw up your body, wieght gain, depression, Severe stomach pains. Its sucks, but everyone is diffrent. I went to my old docter and she was amazed I was on the shot for so long, she has gotten me off of it and started me on Othro Tri-cylen Pills. So far they are great, I'm already losing weight and I no longer have the sever cramps but I still have the depro vera in my system so it will take awhile to get it all out.
If you do want to try something differnt go for the birth control pills, its one of the best that doesn't give you a unheatly dose of Hormones and regulates your period which is what your body needs. The depro vera can completly stop your periods, I didn't have one for years and I think it really hurt my body. Just remember there is always a 1% chance with the pills and the shot that you may get pregnant the pills are just better on your body.
GOOD LUCK!!!!

I was on Depo shots about 5 years ago and didn't stay on them long. Several times the shot was administered poorly and I ended up with pain at the site for days. Worst was the weight gain. I have now been on Ortho Evra patch for about 2 years. I like the ease, no weight gain, but my periods are abou 6 days, the cramping is really bad, and my moods the week before are horrible. I'm going to talk to my doctor about switching again, maybe back to the good old fashioned pill.

I've been using ORTHO TRICYCLEN Lo for about four months. I couldn't figure out why all of a sudden I am ten pounds heavier. My body is acting the same way it did when I was pregnant! I have to pee all the time, I am very very tired in the mornings and sometimes nauseous. It seems that I have more mood swings than usual and no sex drive. I think it is the pill. I am currently looking for an alternative to taking pills. I would love the non-hormonal iud.

I've been using Ortho Tri Lo for 15 days and I've never felt nauseous. I've always taken it with breakfast to avoid that. The only thing I didn't like for the first 12 days was a very long period (9 days) and then frequent spotting. I haven't had any of that in the last 2 days. I haven't had mood swings either, and I've had the usual zits I get all the time. I just hope I don't have any "unscheduled" bleeding for the next week, and that my period regulates itself by next month.

Good luck!=)

I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo now for about 3 months and have definitely gained weight. Prior to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about 6 years and didn't have a problem, except for what I thought was a low sex drive. So I switched to the Lo, however in switching I have become very moody , gained 8 lbs (especially in my middle - i look very bloated) and unfortunately my sex drive is the same (I guess I'm really just tired at night). The weight gain is very strange to me, becuase I run a few times a week, and never experienced this kind of rapid weight gain before, so I know its associated to this new pill. So to sum it up, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo doesn't work for me and I'm switching back to my regular Ortho Tri-Cyclen!

I've been on Ortho lo for about three months now...switched off of the Regular Ortho tri-cyclen, on the advice of my GP who said the lower dose was "healthier" No major complaints, except for my periods, which seem to be more unexpected now, and longer....they start two days before the active pills end, and last until my first active pill starts again...i'm not impressed, the higher hormones had my period down to five days, and could be calculated down to the day of start....anyone else have that?

I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for almost 3 months now, and I've gained 8 pounds. The weight has come on around my waist, which is weird because I've never gained weight there before. It hasn't helped my acne either. It's nice to see I'm not the only one with this problem! I'm calling my doctor tomorrow.

My doctor told me yesterday that the weight gain from birth control doesn't really happen anymore. She said that when doctors started prescribing birth control pills, they gave women dosages up to 100 mg...tricking their bodies into thinking that they were pregnant and hence retaining weight for the "baby." Now, its my understanding that most doctors only give up to 35 mg...so you still can't get pregnant, but you don't gain baby weight. I'm pretty sure that Ortho tri-lo is only 15 mg. So really you shouldn't be having any birth-control related weight gain at all. As far as acne goes, the doctor said it should help a lot though the ortho tri-lo website says it hasn't yet been tested for the treatment of acne.(Hopefully it will work on acne, because I need it bad!) I certainly can't think of any reason why it would cause acne though. It would either not affect it much or make it a lot better.

I just got switched to Ortho tri-cylen lo. So far the major side effects have been nausea and spotting. I've gained some weight but i don't think it's from the pill. Before the pill i tried Nuvraing, and while it apparently works for most of the people who try it, it made sex unbelievably painful for me (i ended up getting pretty chafed up inside and started bleeding from internal cuts). Also, whenever i went to the bathroom i had to hold it in so that it wouldn't fall out. When i went to the gyno they told me that i had it in the exact right place, and that i was doing everything correctly. Everyone reacts differently though, and i know that the ring is a good alternative for many people. Good luck, y'all.

This is my 2nd month on Ortho Tri-cyclen lo. I take my pill at 6pm with food (I get very nauseous if I don't eat with it). I have gained weight (this was my biggest fear as I need to look perfect to excel at my job). SO that has sucked, however, my CUP SIZE increased from an A to a C (within 6 weeks), therefore making it alll worth it. My thighs and stomach look "bloated" (to me) though my workout has stayed the same as always. I still wear the same clothing sizes but my jeans fit slightly tighter. My periods have been lightr and I've had no cramps (which is awesome). So for now the positives outweight the negatives.

one more thing, does anyone get dizzy when they work out? I used to work out rigorously for an hour and feel fine(running/weight lifting/kickboxing/cycling, etc). Now on the pill (OTL) I will do the same workout and feel 1. dizzy while working out and 2. dizzy the rest of the day. To the point where I think I'll black out walking home from the gym.

Has anyone else experience this side effect?
