If you got mirena get it out! If you have not had it dont even try it. This thing is evil! I got it two years ago and it made me a monster. It is the worst thing ever!. Bleeding for months after the insertion was nothing compared with what i got later. Severe depression, suicide toughts, not patience at all with my children and husband. No sex drive, got moles on my belly and breasts and the doctors said they don't know why...well i know! I got cramps, anxiety, i feel extremely tired, joint pain, headaches, brainfog, horrible feelings around period, weight gain, musle spams...and i could keep writing! But the worst is my mood...this is not me and it is literally killing me. Yes it is mirena's fault! I have been searching about this for 2 years. I have waited to see if the symptoms go away. They don't. Do you own search...go to drjnutrition.com and watch the video about mirena...go to curezons.com and read what everybody is posting there. I thought i was crazy until i found i am not alone. Do not get mirena...and if you did...get it out! Don't risk your life, your marriage, your health on this evil device. It is not worth it!

same thing here. I seriously tought i was pregnant and got so scare, test was negative but kept feeling the preg symptoms. After researching i found this thing is evil. I am getting it out as soon as i can get the money the doctor is asking...look at curezone.com about this and watch the video of mirena at drjnutrition.com after my research i found that many of other symptoms i am having are mirena's fault. Depression, feeling pregrant, not thinking straight, horrible mood, weight gain...but the worst is that it keeps going worse and it intoxicates you preventing your liver to do its function. Some women found silicone in them after some tests...please investigate and look it up on the internet...bayer lied to us and fda warned them about it and i do not understand why they have not recall it yet. |

Ive had mine now for a few months and I WOULD NOT recommend it to anyone. The inserting was one of the worst pains I've ever had. And the cramping from that day on has been worse and worse and worse. The only good thing that came was I didn't have a period for a few months but now I've had a period for almost two weeks straight. I have mood swings, weight gain, no sex drive, pain, acne, major cravings, and have had so many problems!! I have an appointment to get it removed Tuesday aNd I can't wait!!!

I have had Mirena for about a year. Insertion was easy and uneventful. I have had 2 children and was 56 at the time, still not menopausal. It successfully brought my out-of-control bleeding (caused by fibroids)during periods down into a normal range though did not ever eliminate periods. Did not experience weight gain, mood swings, or many other bad effects. Side effects include almost constant spotting and light to moderate cramping all the time, every month. One month (about 7 months after insertion) I had heavy bleeding, but that was exception. However, fibroids have continued to grow, causing other serious problems, and I will now have to have a hysterectomy. Note: while there is no proof of a relationship, my blood pressure has risen significantly and problematically (20+ points) since using the Mirena. I am thin and exercise. I will be very interested to see if it goes down after the device is removed.

I have had the Mirena for almost 3 years now. I had problems previously with birth control giving me depression. Little did I know that this would probably be one of the worst. It's always a roller coaster in my life and I feel like it's the mirena. The first month after insertation I bled but I expected that having worked in an OB/GYN office. But after that I quit having periods which is great but the depression set back in. About a year ago I started feeling like I was prego and had all the symptom but of course it was nothing. I met with an OB but she was more concerned about my depression and not the fact that the BC could be causeing the depression. It turned out that I had a low thyroid and I began taking pills for that. Soon that went away but I was still depressed. About 4 months ago I began having a period after 2 years of nothing. Again I went to a different OB/GYN and they quickly brushed off the birthcontrol also my depression had gone away and all she declared that it was a good thing. Now this month I have not had a period, I've been depressed for the last three months and I don't wanna go back and see that OBGYN so I'm going to call my pcp and get my levels checked. I'm freaked out to take a PT cuz my husband has stated he doesn't want another child but I kinda would. Also I hate the let down. I really want this thing out but I have to wait till my husband gets a vasectamy. ugh. If you are considering getting this remember how you react to medication. NOT everyone is the same. But if you have had negative effects before . Do not do this birthcontrol!!

That's exactly my experience! My breasts are sore. And now, after almost 2 years the bleeding has returned ;( I had a copper IUD before Mirena and had to take it out - it made me bleed more. So I'm more happy with Mirena, apart from the above mentioned (it's pretty weird to have sore nipples!) and the bleeding has returned now, which makes me a bit worried, hope it's just once off |

I have posted on here about three different times now and i have had mine for almost tewo full years and i am at my ropes end here. I have mood swings soo badly that i am scared my marriage will wind up ending soon, i have a discharge, no sex drive, sore boobs for months straight, painful intercourse, acne like you wouldnt believe, hot flashes, heavyness in my abdoment, bloating too,i can also hardly carry my 19 m onth old around any more cause it is soo uncompfertable. I am only 20 years old too and i shouldnt feel this way. I am thinking about having the IUD taken out for good scared though cause i cant afford to winde up pregnant againand have had bad exsperinces with the pill but if it wwill take away all of the symptoms i have been having well then it is worth it to have to take the pill. I understand that every women is diffrent and so is there body and i am sure that many of you have had a really good exsperince with the IUD but as for me it is a nightmare that i want to end. I am just post my story one last time. And here is the list of known side affects of the mirena IUD:
Irregular vaginal bleeding (e.g., spotting), cramps, headache, nausea, breast pain, acne, rash, hair loss, weight gain, or decreased interest in sex may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication device because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication device do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: lack of menstrual period, unexplained fever, chills, trouble breathing, mental/mood changes (e.g., depression, nervousness), vaginal swelling/itching, painful intercourse. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: migraine/severe headache, vomiting, tiredness, fast/pounding heartbeat. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: prolonged or heavy vaginal bleeding, unusual vaginal discharge/odor, vaginal sores, abdominal/pelvic pain or tenderness, lumps in the breast, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine, persistent nausea, trouble urinating. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. |

I'm on day 5 of the Murena and am kind of worried. I get very specific centrally located pain 3 inches above my belly button. I've never had children and had to have it inserted during my cycle so that I would be adequately dilated. I'm in the Army and very outdoorsy, consider myself a tough broad...However, I asked the doctor to punch me in the face during insertion because it hurt so bad. (She declined). So far no mood swings but from what I've read I can possibly look fwd to those later. The spotting is terrible and frankly, unromantic. I don't know if I am digging this method of BC but I plan on giving it at least 3 months prior to any conclusions. These cramps are incredibly annoying and feel like the kind I would get on my worst, heaviest day of my period.

I also wanted to add that back in 2011 i had a pap smear done and it came back abnormal and that was my very first one. The pap that i had done before i got pregnant and then after i was pregnant came back normal. I find it very weird that i have been with only one partner my whole time and i wind up with an abnormal pap smear after i get the mirena iud in. The doctor also found white spots on my cervix when he did further test. But everything came back normal so i am hoping that in the next couple of months when i go back in for another pap it will come back normal. But i am deffinitly getting this thing out. |

I got it out today...9 hours after and i feel the difference already....i am freeeeeee! You don't know how happy i am!

Dont do it!! I've had mine for two years (I'm a 28 year old, married mother of one) and will be knocking on my doc's door at 8am tomorrow! I'm loosing the hair I want but growing it everywhere else, fast, thick and dark. The mood swings are horrible! The sex, painful, my pelvis actually hurts 95% of the time...period. Back to the mood swings, it's worse than that, I'm really just mean..and hairy, and bald (how sexy is that?!) If you want to experience puberty all over Again but as a 12 year old boy, go for it!

I had my Mirena placed 11 days ago. I was a bit nervous leading up to the insertion, but a healthy level of anxiety is good in my opinion. It meant I understood the gravity of the decision and the potential side effects. The procedure itself was...uncomfortable, but not excruciating by any means. Frankly, if you've had a child, it felt like low-level pain from contractions. And the cramps that followed only lasted a couple of days and didn't even match the worst menstrual cramps I've ever had. Again, everyone's experience is different, but a couple of days of cramps and light spotting seems a small inconvenience for peace of mind.
Although the packaging technically says you're covered from the point of insertion, my doctor recommended using alternate birth control methods for 2 weeks to be on the safe side. I will say that I have had some phantom cramping the day after sex. Nothing to match the cramping after insertion but enough to give me a friendly reminder that there's something foreign in my body. I'm hoping this is something that will subside over time, but if not, it is not unbearable. I'm hoping this is a good solution for me. I've tried it all--pill, patch (my skin is too sensitive to the adhesive), ring (hated it!), and the shot. I actually was on the shot for 7 years when I was younger. I actually selected Mirena because of my experience with the shot and the fact that Mirena is a localized version of the same "stuff". Good luck to anyone researching this. You're doing the right thing to get multiple opinions. However, realize that everyone's experience is going to be different and that only you can determine what is right for you. |

I had the Mirena put it 4 days ago, I was taking Primolut 5mg twice a day up to the night before surgery, when i came out of surgery i felt great no pain no bleeding just a little spotting, 3 days later I am in great pain and have never bleed like this before, its just not stopping I have read its a side effect of coming off Primolut, went to my GP yesterday and he said give it 3 more days to see if the bleeding slows down, if it does not i will have to take Primolut again and go through this all over again when I come off it next time its a great drug stops the bleeding but you suffer when you come of taking this drug worse then before with cramping and bleeding that does not stop its like a tap has been turned on, I am very anemic and very concerned again of my blood loss deciding this morning should i go back on Primolut or continue to bleed, this is why i had the Mirena put in to stop my heavy bleeding.

I have had mirena now for 6 months. The insertion was the easiest part of this whole ordeal. Yes, there was the expected bleeding and cramping after insertion, but I knew that would happen. The bleeding only lasted about 2 months. Since then, the cramps are getting worse and worse. At first it was concentrated on the left lower abdomen so naturally the Dr thought it was a cyst, ultasound showed fluid in my abdomen but he chalked it up to a recent cyst burting (though no cysts showed up on ultrasound). The cramps are now becoming unbearable, no sex at all since it hurts too badly for days afterward. I am reluctant to take out the IUD till my wedding in november. It just seems like too far away to live with this pain. Worst of all, my fiance thinks that all this pain is not frm the IUD....just seems like may other women are experiencing smilar pain after having the IUD for several months! The pain, cramps, gets worse when I have a gas bubble, am too full, am too hungry, or need to pee. So basically, only eat small meals all he time, never pee, never have a BM, never have sex, and don't put pressure on your abdomen whatsoever and you will feel no pain!

I got the mirena placed a week ago and it was so painful, even though I have 3 children. My biggest concern is that I am so tired and I can't seem to get it to go away. Did anybody experience this and have it get better? I am already ready to get this thing taken out. Help.....:''-(
