My daughter was on this pill and suffered a massive stroke. No other explanation for stroke as she was only 19 years old.

It's quite a relief reading all of these posts. Just like many of you, I have been on Ortho Tri Cyclene Lo for about 7 years until I decided i couldn't afford the $50/month anymore. Dr. suggested Trinessa....I have been on it for about 5 months now and just this week have put my foot down and QUIT taking the damn pills. In the past my periods were very mild, low flow, 3-4 days, minimal cramping, etc. NOW I have experienced irregular periods. I will start 5 days before the inactive pill week, or I will start 5 days after the inactive pills, which is really frustrating because isn't that one reason we take BC? To know WHEN you are going to be on your period?! Anyways, I would also be spotting the whole time, brown discharge, mild cramps, until the big boom of the real thing. It's like I have been on some form of my period for months now. It has been exhausting both mentally and physically. I feel fatigue, depression, definitely a lower sex drive, which by the way was the opposite before Trinessa. I am a 24 year old woman that needs to be energetic, happy, spontaneous and have love in her life! Trinessa has taken that away from me. I don't want to be on it anymore, and frankly, it's not worth spending $50/month on Ortho either. I decided 2 days ago that I am going al natural. No more BC. I will be spending the next few months cleansing my body of all these damn hormones in hopes to find myself again. My main issue was cramping, and if I have to put years worth of man made hormones into my body to rid the cramps, I choose not anymore. I will stick out the few days of cramps, my body being free of these hormones, and just take a damn pain pill if I need to.

Hi, after reading the post I cried, I felt looking myself in a mirror when I read some of your postings. I am taking Trinessa ( transferred my prescription to a pharmacy and this was their generic) after almos two years of Trisprintec. The first week I was on the pill I was fine, but the following week I was crying for no reason. It has not stop. I try to put myself together but it's hard. I also get grumpy and want to fight for no reason, I have no energy and I dont feel motivated. I am 25 and married a year ago. I read your posting and felt better because I am not alone. I am done with the active pillsand this week I am suppose to take the green ones. I did not take them, I am just wait for my period To come as usual. I don't want to take Trinessa anymore so first thing in the morning ischamging my prescription to a pharmacy which sell Trisprintec. To all the ladies who have not struggle with Trinessa I wanted to say how lucky you are!! My physical side effects are dizziness and body ache, but mostly I have been affected emotionally :,(

honestly I've been on trinessa for almost 3 years now and I feel fine. No cramps, shorter periods, no headaches, managable acne, and my sex drive is just fine. Just ask my boyfriend. the only thing I do notice is that I'm a little touchy the week before my period. I don't blow up on anyone, but I do catch myself wondering why I'm so upset about the little things. otherwise I love this pill. It works really really well

I am starting to take birth control for the first time and my pharmacy issued me a prescription for Tri-Nessa. From what I have read, no matter what birth control you take, there are undesirable side effects but some things I have read regarding Tri-Nessa are not reassuring and I was wondering if anyone has used this birth control and if so how did it effect you?
I just started taking Trinessa about two weeks ago because that's all I can afford (birth control-wise). Anyway it has only been a about two weeks and I just connected all my recent symptoms to Trinessa. I am pretty sure this is what is causing my sickness. I have been nauseous since a few days after taking it. I don't have ANY appetite AT ALL! It's hard for me to keep food down, my stomach has been constantly upset. Will these side effects go away once my body gets used to it? Like I said I don't have insurance so it's not like I can just go to the doctor and ask these questions (which I really would like to do but hey, that's America's health-care for you- it freaking sucks not being able to go to the doctor or get prescribed something that won't make you vomit everyday just because you can't freaking afford it.) Sorry about the little insert there. So yea my symptoms are:
*nausea
*vomiting
*lack of appetite/ food just doesn't taste or even sound good (actually just thinking about it is making me want to vomit).
*upset stomach
will these symptoms go away after my body gets used to this pill? If so, how long will it take? I really don't like being this sick everyday... thanks for reading this.

I had a recent 2nd trimester miscarriage so my doctor prescribed me Trinessa to keep me from getting pregnant too soon. I was fine before i started taking the BC. Im going on my third month and it's a nightmare! I have hot flashes, migraines, suicidal thoughts, severe depression and mood swings, anxiety, tired all the time, random crying spells, no sex drive (and I'm a very sexual person), extreme weight gain and im not eating differently, and painful acne. Im 19 and this is making my life misreable. Im going to the obgyn thursday to get switched.

Have you considered trying The Ovulation Method of natural family planning? It is super easy to learn and 99% effective in postponing or avoiding pregnancy. We women are only fertile about 100 hours a month (whereas men are fertile all the time)- the egg only lives about 12-24 hours. We have two periods: our red period which we know by what we see (red blood) and what we feel (wetness) and a white period (our fertile time) which we can know by what we see (a mucus secretion resembling raw egg white) and feel (a wet slippery sensation). We just need to understand the signs of ovulation and how to act around them. If we want to avoid pregnancy, we avoid intercourse and genital contact during the fertile time and if we want to conceive we use the fertile time. It's so simple.
Some people might be worried about not having sex during the fertile time and how it might affect their relationship, but you don't have to abstain from hand holding, foot massage, playing games, going for a walk, watching movies together, going out to eat, etc., etc. Studies show that couples who practice The Ovulation Method actually have sex more often and report feeling more satisfied with communication and intimacy. THe divorce rate is also practically zero for couples who use it- probably because when postponing they have a honeymoon each month because of the time when they are doing things they used to do together when they were dating- because intercourse is 'off the table'. Whoa- long sentence.
Anyway, I wish more women knew about the 'white period' and that they are only fertile @100 hours a month. Then they wouldn't put their health and even their lives in jeopardy with these horrible steroid birth control pills.

I have been taking Tri Nessa for about 5 months now after being on the shot for 6 years. I was hoping for a better change in my skin tone. I have always had pretty clear skin with the occasional break out. I now have acne all over my face, and neck, still thinking maybe it needs to get worse before it gets better. As each day goes by I keep thinking wow it is getting really bad. I have been piling on the foundation to try to hide it, all the while thinking I should stop taking it. I have also been experiencing an anxious feeling with the occasional heat wave. I am wondering if this is also normal since I am only 23 and shouldn't be having hot flashes at my age. I am concidering going back on the depo which made me feel normal and didn't think about weather or not I am having side effects. I just have not felt normal since I started taking the pill. Thanks for your comments. I can see now I am not going crazy with these weird symptoms I am experiencing!

Im 24 years old and started taking Trinessa 3 months ago. 2 days ago i went into the ER due to chest pain. doctors could figure out what was wrong with me until they did a cat scan and discovered that i have several blood clots in my lungs. doctors say that it is because of the birth control Trinessa. I have to inject blood thinners into my stomach twice a day and take pills everyday for the next 3 months as well as get blood taken out daily. doctors say that if i hadnt gone in, I could have died due to a clot traveling into my heart or my brain. i caught it in time but some might not be as lucky. DONT TAKE THIS BIRTH CONTROL IF YOU CHERISH YOUR LIFE!

Trinessa and Ortho Tri-Cyclen are bioidentical. There is no difference between the active hormones in these medications. They are the same. I am an RN.

This can happen on ANY form of oral birth control. It is not because it was Trinessa. I am very sorry to hear of this though. I am an RN.

I have been on different brands of birth control pills since 2000 and on and off them between planned pregnancies. I was prescribed YAZ after the birth of my 3rd but it was too expensive so I was switched to Trinessa. I had heard about Yaz having an increased risk of blood clots but never had a problem with it but five months after getting on Trinessa I ended up with a blood clot in my leg. No family history of blood clots, no problems with it during any of my 3 pregnancies (they say that it's actually more likely to have a blood clot during pregnancy than due to birth control pills.) I had been on other brands of the pill for more than a year before with no problems. Though the clot was a major side effect, I also noticed other side effects I didn't have on other pills such as bad acne/cystic acne on my chin and jaw line and I have read about this on several other sites as a side effect of Trinessa. Once I got off of it from the blood clot, that has improved significantly. I know that ALL birth control pills have a risk of blood clots so I can't say it was just the Trinessa, but it's strange that I've been on others for much longer periods of time with no problems. I would tell women looking for birth control to go with an IUD over the pill if you know you don't want kids for at least a couple of years. I'm going with an IUD, the Paragard which doesn't contain hormones as that's really my only option now that isn't a hassle and doesn't contain hormones other than sterilization which I don't want. Look into an IUD before going on the pill, even the Mirena that contains hormones has only the progestin, not the combination which seems to be what causes blood clots, and it's a very low amount. It's easier than having to remember to take a pill every day and you don't have to do anything except check the strings occasionally to make sure it's still in place. I think doctors should suggest an IUD over the pill for women that don't plan on having kids for at least a couple years in order to avoid the side effects of the pill...there are many more possible from the pill than from either form of IUD. It's also NOT true that if you've never had kids you can't get an IUD. There are some doctors that won't do it, but many will and it DOES NOT effect your ability in the future to get pregnant, you just have it removed. If your doctor says they won't do it, find one or a clinic that will. The only downside is that if you haven't had any children the insertion can be more painful but 5 minutes of discomfort in my opinion is well worth not having to suffer through the side effects of being on the pill, especially the more serious dangers like blood clots.

I have been on trinessa for 5 years and I love it. Maybe it just works good for some and bad for others but the only side affects I have ever had were good ones. Short periods, and never put on a pound. Only time I got moody is if I missed a pill and had to take 2 the next day.

Everyone is different. I am 23 years old. I've been on trinessa for 3 years. It was horrible when I first started taking it. I broke out horrible but I made myself keep taking them, over the years my mood have changed, my attitude is different, emotional, I can go on. Now, over the years I have gained 20-30 pounds!!! Ive decided to get off bc for 6 months and see my results! Im already 1 month off and my face seems oily but no extreme breakouts. Yet! Hopefully I can lose weight now because I has a hard time when I was on bc, and yes I was working out during the time I was in bc, I hope I get some positive results! Best of luck to you ladies :)

It made me hysterical, depressed, emotional, irrate, just awful! It also made me break out, something that I had never done.
My health insurance switched and only covered this. It cost me $3 a month, so I switched. BIG mistake. It almost ruined my marriage bc I was such a mess. I now pay $5o a month for Orth tri cyclen, which I swear by!
Thank you, stranger. I lost my leaflet & looked up instructions but found your comment as well. I believe you. I have had reactions to generic just like yours. It's not worth the risk. I was nuts! I couldn't stand myself nor anyone around me, which explains their reaction to me. You may have saved my complexions but especially my family, marriage, and students from a crazy person!! Thank you. You scared me to what I know is true & am now at pharmacy waiting for the non-generic brand.

I've been taking TriNessa for over 5 years and have never had any problems with it. It clears my acne like a charm and I have gained a little weight but Im 28 and still have a fast metabolism plus I exercise all the time. It regulates my periods and I don't get bad bloating or cramping. It doesn't make me crazy either and I don't have bad mood swings. I guess you just have to find one that works best for your body. I used to take Ortho tri cyclin to when I was 19 and that one also treated me well.

i had the same issues. i had always used ortho tri cyclene until they recommended a generic. i was flippin' crazy. my roommate said i was a completely different person. i thought it was my depression so my doc and i were trying to figure out a medication that would help me. i was doing some research online and found that i was not the only one that was having the same side effects. i stopped the trinessa and i was FINE. completely fine. i'd never felt like that in my entire life.
my doc recently forgot to put "name brand only" on my rx and medco sent me tri-previfem - i called and had them refax the rx because i will never, EVER take another generic birth control again. i'm going to pay more because i know it works for me. i've been on it for the past 12 years so why the hell would i switch?
