I am starting to take birth control for the first time and my pharmacy issued me a prescription for Tri-Nessa. From what I have read, no matter what birth control you take, there are undesirable side effects but some things I have read regarding Tri-Nessa are not reassuring and I was wondering if anyone has used this birth control and if so how did it effect you?

DO NOT TAKE TRI NESSA!!!
Check out the following website for all the reasons you should NOT take this drug.
http://www.askapatient.com/viewratings.asp...
It made me hysterical, depressed, emotional, irrate, just awful! It also made me break out, something that I had never done.
My health insurance switched and only covered this. It cost me $3 a month, so I switched. BIG mistake. It almost ruined my marriage bc I was such a mess. I now pay $5o a month for Orth tri cyclen, which I swear by!

I was on Ortho tri-cyclen for 5 years, switched to tri nessa bc of work insurance and after a few months finally realized that the deep breakouts along my jawline are bc of the switch!!! My doc now wants to put me on to ortho tri cyclen or ortho tri cyclen lo. Even when I was on the regular ortho tri-cyclen i still broke out a bit but not like this!! I dont know which is better to clear up skin in general....

I would never recommand that any woman take this medication because I am 28 years old and suffered a stroke from it. I was only on it for about 1 1/2 months before it happened. I have lost vision in my left eye and will probably not recover it. I DO NOT recommand any form of BC.

I have been taking Tri Nessa for about 5 months now after being on the shot for 6 years. I was hoping for a better change in my skin tone. I have always had pretty clear skin with the occasional break out. I now have acne all over my face, and neck, still thinking maybe it needs to get worse before it gets better. As each day goes by I keep thinking wow it is getting really bad. I have been piling on the foundation to try to hide it, all the while thinking I should stop taking it. I have also been experiencing an anxious feeling with the occasional heat wave. I am wondering if this is also normal since I am only 23 and shouldn't be having hot flashes at my age. I am concidering going back on the depo which made me feel normal and didn't think about weather or not I am having side effects. I just have not felt normal since I started taking the pill. Thanks for your comments. I can see now I am not going crazy with these weird symptoms I am experiencing!

I've been on birth control since i was 16 because of acne, but just recently switched to Trinessa when I got married so that my husband and I could afford it without health insurance. It's hard to say what negative things might be attributed to Trinessa or just stress in general. I had break-through bleeding for 3 weeks when I tried to skip my period by going to the next set of pills (which I've done before with another birth control and without problems). I've probably been taking Trinessa for about a year now, but I don't think I've had any really bad side effects. I'm starting to do more research though...birth control affects everyone in different ways.

I am currently taking Tri Nessa. I have been on it for 5 months. The only side effects I am experiencing from Tri Nessa seems to be frequent headaches, some dizziness, chest pain & I find that while taking the blue pills I am more hungry which causes me to gain weight. The doctor says these symptoms should go away as my body gets used to this pill, I'm on my 5th month & the symptoms are still there.

I used Tri-nessa for 2 months. I stopped taking it at this time because I was always feeling depressed. In the third week, I had a brown discharge and had to wear a pantyliner everyday. Also, on tri-nessa my period was longer than normal. The first month after stopping, my period was half a week late. I'n now in the second month after stopping. My period is today one week late and it still hasn't started. I've taken 2 pregnancy tests and both were negative.

I never had any problems while taking Ortho tri-cyclen or after stopping it a few years ago.

I had to switch to tri-nessa because of the incurance policy.

I too have been on Trinessa for two months now and my usually flawless skin looks blotchy and a mess. More of an issue though, is the brown discharge that started three weeks ago and hasn't stopped. Part of me wants to just stop taking it and go back to my dependable, low side-effect Ortho TriCyclen Lo, and the other part wants to wait it out and see if my body adjusts. And my sex drive is gone, I am easily irrated and just feel depressed a lot. So, I'm definitely scheduling an appt with my gyn this week to discuss these with her.

I've been on Trinessa for about three months now and have gained about 15 pounds since. I can't fit into any of my clothes and its driving me crazy. The main reason I started taking the pill was because my doctor recommended it for my mild acne break-outs. Although it has cleared up my complexion and helped regulate my cycles, I have been gaining weight like crazy. I'm married w/kids and have never had to diet or exercise to keep my size 5/6 figure. I know they say your metabolism slows down as you get older (I'm 31) but this
weight gain has been way too fast and I haven't changed my eating patterns. Seriously, I'm thinking about missing work tomorrow because I have nothing to wear.

after reading all of these other replies... i'm assuming that's you've decided against taking trinessa, but i though i thouth i would share my excperience with you... i have been taking trinessa for two years, and love it. i haven't gained a single pound, in fact i have lost weight, but i don't know if that has anything to do with it. i get a bit moody on the week of the brighter blue pills, and i seem to be really hungry, and get an occasional break out, but the rest of the month my skin is always clear, always. it's the only pill i've ever been on, and i don't plan on switching.

I've been on Trinessa for 3-4 months now, my skin has cleared up alot, I don't think I've had but one zit since I started taking Trinessa. I've actually lost about seven pounds and my cramps aren't as bad as they used to be... I guess I'm one of the lucky ones though cuz it sounds like everyone else hate it.

Thanks for all the feed back. Life got crazy after the first posting. After all the negative things I read with only a few positives, I decided not to take anything until I spoke with my doctor. As of right now, I am starting on Ortho TriCyclen even though it cost me more due to insurance.

I was searching for info on the web about trinessa. I too want to stop taking it because it has turned me into someone I don't want to be! ha ha lol....I sure make it sound like it turns me into a monster or something!
But really, it has made me have severe mood swings, headaches, no sex drive, low energy and longer periods.
After reading all these post, I'm happy to say No more of that for me!
I'm free!!!:-)
Thank you all for the great info

I was first given Ortho-Tri Lo, but after about 4 months, I was prescribed Ortho-Tri (regular) due to break through bleeding. To save some money, I took the generic form (Trinessa). The first month was ABSOLUTE HELL!! I was a mad woman-- always crying...then yelling...then depressed. I was always mad and picking fights with my boyfriend. I was so depressed, and my sex drive was NON EXISTENT (so was my natural lube production)!! Anyways, after a while, the mood swings got a little better because I guess I must have adjusted...but my sex drive never has come back. I had some weight gain...and my skin sensitivity HAS INCREASED x10000000!!!! I can't be out in the sun, or I'll break out in tiny red itchy bumps all over my face! It looks horrible, and feels like horrible burning. My skin also dries out very quickly...and to this day, I still have depression spells. I honestly feel like I'm going insane! Does anyone have any similar experiences? Does anyone have any advice? I've actually just recently switched to the non-generic Ortho-tricyclen....so I guess we'll see. But I'd love to hear any sort of support from anyone out there!

I have been on birth control for about 7 years now. i have taken ortho tri cyclin, ortho tri cyclin lo, tri sprintic and trinessa over the years. None of which, i have had a serious problem with. Sometimes, switching brands causes minimal side effects such as a discharge. But once my body adjusts to the pill, it seems to be fine. I really do believe that each pill affects every woman differently. Try to find the best pill for you, and if you can't, maybe the pill is not the method of birth control you should use.

I have been on birth control for about 7 years now. I started with Ortho-Tri Cyclin and last year I had to switch to Trinessa because of my insurance. I am having a lot of the same symptoms that many of you are experiencing. Weight gain, breakthrough bleeding, dark discharge, migraines, abnormal break-outs, longer periods, not as much energy, easily irritated, and NO SEX DRIVE! Which is very unusual! So, I am going to talk to my doctor about switching. Maybe Ortho-Tri Cyclin lo or something. I am willing to pay more to feel better and be happier and I'm sure my soon-to-be-husband won't argue with me!

I have been on Ortho-Tri for about 10 years. Due to a switch in medical insurance, I was switched to Tri-Nessa. My face usually just broke out in a few zits the week I was on my period. But now, it stays broken out 2-3 weeks out of the month. I feel I am moodier and my weight has increased. After reading all of the above comments, I will be switching back to Ortho-Tri.....

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Pisces

You're raring to go today, especially on domestic projects. You'll achieve a tremendous amount if you're allowed to proceed at your own pace and in your own time, but you'll soon get ratty if you suspect someone is breathing down your neck or trying to tell you what to do. You'll also feel irritated with people you know really well, so be prepared for a few fireworks.
