angie baby wrote: HI All What do you think of the IUD when is it best to have it inserted not to happy about going to the dr with a period. A bit embarrasing to say the least. WHat do you all think? Hi, the best time to have it inserted is on your period as your cervix are soft and much easier and less painful for the nurse/doctor to insert the paragard(non-hormonal)/marena( hormonal) IUD. They fit and examine woman all the time whilst on their period, I know it's embarrassing but it's only for apprx 2-3mins of having it fitted. Hope this helps x

I have had an IUD for two years and have steadly gain weight 75lbs. My doctor said its rare but some are sensitive to the progesteron (maybe spelled wrong) and this could infact cause weight gain. I had it removed a week ago. While I had it I didn't really have a period maybe 3 total and I have been bleeding and passsing clots that I plan to call about in the morning just to make sure the sizes are normal. But not to much cramping. I am hoping to start seeing some weight come off. amber wrote: I unlike a lot of these posts have had my IUD in for about 5 1/2 years now, I couldnt get in to see my doc quick enough b/c hes so hard to get into, then when i finally did, he informed me that my insurance would pay for my tubes to get tied, and he gave me a month to think about it and did not remove my IUD (until the surgery) I have decided against having my tubes tied, would like to possibly have another baby (one day) but would very much like to get another form of birth control, i have gained 65 lbs with the IUD and find it very difficult to lose any weight, i have really bad mood swings all the time, also Im starting to have some pain in my upper right thigh, feels almost numb from my hip all the way to my knee, this a wierd symtom but my step mom informed me that it could be a blood clot forming from the IUD, any one ever had this happen to them?None of this i never associated with the IUD until reading these posts, i asked my doctor if weight gain was a symtom of the iud and he said it was not, also i wondered if my not having a period in over 5 years would cause weight gain, again he said no, im not sure but one thing i know after reading these posts i am positive that we all have a lot of the same symtoms and i am sure i will feel much better after the removal, am a little freaked out by all the blood clotting and heavy periods though, as i have always had real light cycles only lasting 3-4 days but all and all im sure it will be worth it, any suggestions on what form of birth control i should go to next??? I appreciate all of your feed back and good luck!:)

I had my iud removed on 12/7/11, had a little cramping that day and into the next then I was fine. On 12/26/11 I started to bleed extremely heavy which accompanied large nasty blood clots. I have read just about every post on here and what I am experiencing seems to be common. However, the bleeding is so heavy I am going through a heavy duty pad every hour and I sleep (sometimes but with amount of bleeding itsvery hard to get comfortable) with towels under me so I don't ruin my bed. My vision seems to be getting worse as far as blurry and doubled, I am lightheaded all the time, headaches, dizzy, and so tired I can barely keep up with my 2.5 y/o son. I have called my doc and she plays it off like its not a big deal, however it is effecting my ability to care for my son. I have never had periods like this in the 20 years I've had my period. Should I go to my local er? Any advise would be great Thanks so much

I'm going through the same thing, except I was stupid and let my boyfriend pull mine out, I've been bleeding for two weeks. I'm scared my daughter is two and we want to try for another, I hope we didn't cause any damage. I'm going to see my gynecologist tomorrow. Now I'm embarrassed to tell him how it came out.

Hi everyone......personally think all doctors should go take a jump....they still say this coil is the best thing why dont they actually listen to us women...had five years of hell since first being told i have polyistic ovarys and endrometious....anyway to cut it short they forced me to have mirina last may....after major infection from operation nearly a full year of feeling like i were gunna have a heart attack headaches and constant bleeding gyn told me to wait another four months just went over her head booked in at my docs and told them to remove it....bled constant for ten days really heavy....am sooo tired all the time and feel like poo.....why are they so up for forcing this little piece of poo on us women amd why are they so reluncant to take it out....

Had extreme pain and problems. Been on every type of birth control to help with the symptoms and nothing helped me. After I had my daughter I got the same Iud. I had a low sex drive, painful intercourse, extreme pain in my cervix. 2 years after having it I had it removed and put back on birth control pills. The dr said I wouldn't have bleeding or if I did only very light spotting. He was very wrong!!! I had very heavy bleeding with in an hour of him taking it out and have been passing big clots. Very painful and they gave me a pain reliver an muscle relaxers which are not helping at all! For me when I wasn't on the Iud my periods would last sometimes 2-3 months at a time because of the endo. Now I'm wondering if it's goin to go back to that :(

I just had mirena out last month, I was having the same type of complications with it as you all have said. I started my period 3 days after it was out, and it was light and normal. But now, I started my period again 2 days ago and it's very heavy with small clots. I am having to change a tampon every half hour and it's still bleeding through onto a pad. UGH!! I would never recommend Mirena IUD. Not sure if this is normal or not, but I will never get an IUD again... NOT worth it.

I got my IUD taken out 2/2/12 and have been lately bleeding off and on since then... it started like one of my normal periods ( ones I have before my IUD was put in 5 years ago) rather heavy, with clots for the first 1-3 days, with the cramps and crankiness. Then tapered off to a light pink.... stopped for a few days then started up with very light pink blood. Its now 2/11/12. Is it normal for this to happen.

Good Afternoon everyone. Well I just had the IUD removed two days ago and like many of you I have insane bleeding. My doctors had put me on 7 different birth controls to control the bleeding and then they put the IUD in April of 2010. It was horrible with the cramps, no sex drive and heavy bleeding worse than before. Finally they took it out, after I had bled for 12 weeks straight. I had little bleeding after the removal but this morning it was bright red, and I am soaking a pad in an hour even while I am taking estrogren and a birth control (which I have been on for 2 weeks.) What the hell is going on??? Can anyone please tell me what to do? I am so sick of this. I'm 23 and they wont do a hysterectomy because I havent had children. It is retarded considering I have been going through non stop treatments for 5 years.
Please. Someone help.

I got my IUD placed in March 09 and just gotten it taken out on March 28 2012.. The first day and a half no cycle but that Friday I came on and am still on as of April 6. Today 4/6/12 was the first time I had clotting and it freaked me out it was the size of a big bottle cap. I know clotting is normal but what do you all think of the size? Help and Thanks!!

I had the mirrna fitted in April 2010 after trying everything else to help my endo, i had it removed 5 days ago and have been soaking through a super plus tampon and my clothes every hour with clots the size of my palm !!!!! Was worried but seems its quite common reading all these forums, I was never told this could happen and thought I had a result when it was removed as I didn't even feel it, now I feel like I can't go out in case I flood it's ridiculous and I think drs should give better information about this kind of possibility , the amount of blood and clots I'm losing, it's lucky I'm not a panicky person or I would think I was heammoraging, I didn't even bleed/clot this much after having my children!!!!!!

Mine have been the size of my palm and I was quite startled but they seem to have settled down on the past 2 hours, I have read many forums and filled out an nhs direct questionnaire , no one seems to be worried so I'm not !!!! Hope it's sorts out for u soon :-)

I had the Mirena for 2 and a half years. I had problems from the beginning, I gained 20 pounds in 2 months. Having sex was painful but my libido was in overdrive. Headaches, lack of appetite. Finally had it removed today and I already feel better. I am looking forward to getting pregnant.
