I recently had my Mirena IUD removed and I bled for the past week with tiny bloot clots. Now I am passing ones approx. 1 to 2 inches in size. Anyone else have this problem?? I'm not sure if it is cause for concern.

It's probably your body adjusting to having the IUD removed and the related hormonal changes, but talk to your doctor to be sure.

The same thing happened to me. Mine were larger. I had to wear a diaper because they were so large. I am waiting for a call from my doctor now. Otherwise, I feel great since removing the Mirena IUD.

I just recently had my IUD Mirena removed on Dec 30, 08 I've had it almost 5 years, but I started to have problems with it as far as stomach and pelvic area swelling, yellow vaginal discharge which came out like urine and the pain was unbarable it was throbbing in some areas and really sharp pains in other areas. I had to go to the ER the doctor said that he thinks that I got an bacterial infection from the IUD, he stated if I had a fever with all my other symptoms he would've taken the IUD out automatically. He gave me antibodics and pain pills but I was still hurting so I had to go to my GYN and I told him to remove the IUD and that the ER department had ran all types of tests on me and every test came out negative. After the removal of the IUD my pain has went down a whole lot I'm still recovering but after I had the IUD removed I noticed a huge blood clot that came out luckily I was present at the doctor's office I asked him was that normal he said yes. He said that I will be bleeding for a week straight but if I still continue to get the blood clots I will call him and let him know that it is still persistent. Then I will hear what my GYN has to tell me. Wish me luck you guys.
Take care

I had crazy pain after having my IUD placed. Some days it hurt to drive, walk, sit and lay down. I got it in November '08. My hair started thinning, I became very emotional, normal headaches became worse and then there was the ache. I'm 37 years old.
I went to my GYN and she found no reason for my discomfort. I went to my GI and he thought I had a hernia, so he sent me to a surgeon. The surgeon couldn't find it & ordered a CT scan. He said that if the scan didn't find anything, then I should get the IUD removed. I opted not to get the scan and to schedule the removal.
I feel WAY better, but the clotting is weirding me out. My GYN never mention the bleeding or possible clotting. She even tried to tell me that my thinning hair was just part of a normal hair cycle.
All I know is that I would hurt from just under my rib cage down to my knees. The pain seemed to stem from my ovaries--I think the hormones in the IUD were just too much for them.
I wish the IUD had worked. With the economy the way it is, paying a copay for 5 years of birth control was gonna be "sweet".

A year and a half ago I had the IUD with copper (no hormones) put it. I didn't feel anything during insertion, and had no problems with it for the first year. Then, I started getting horrible lower back aches, but never related it to the IUD. I then started getting a horrible emabarrasing odor. The doctor said it was because of old blood that my body had not gotten rid of. I got over that phase only to go into the huge blood clot phase. During my 7 day periods (they used to be 3-4 days) I have huge blood clots, but I am not in any kind of pain. My doctor says it's normal, but she recommended taking it out. Needless to say, I'm having it taken out on Tuesday. I wish I had a successful story to tell, but now I'm researching other methods. Good luck to those who try it.

I had mine removed on Thursday, and after intercourse on Friday night, I have been bleeding. Badly. It gushes and when I sit down to go to the bathroom, all I feel is clots passing. Sorry, TMI I know, but I'm freaking out! Let me know what you find out. Thanks, and good luck to you!

I finally got my IUD removed. I got the IUD 2 yrs ago.. suddenly I gained 35 pounds.. my energy was gone.. and I just didnt feel right. I kept going to the doctors telling them something wasnt right. They took blood test etc.. and nothing showed up wrong. So I figured it was in my mind. Three months ago.. I suddenly had trouble seeing, suddenly I have a blood pressure problem, migranes and just cannot function day to day. Kept feeling like I was going to have a heart attack..So 2 weeks ago.. I ended up in the hospital.. blood pressure was 199/120 .. one side of my body was numb.. and it went away as fast as it came. They did test found nothing. It hit me.. it is the IUD! It has to be.. I requested they remove it. Would you believe they spent 20 min trying to convince me not too. I stood my ground it is gone. Its been only 1 weeks.. just 1... and I feel almost back to normal. Like the whole thing was a nighmare. I am still recovering.. Now I am having the clotting.. very badly.. it is freaking me out..I might consider a diaper like the other post said..but I will gladly take that over the nightmare I just went through. No birth control is worth messing up your health for. Tell the man to snip it. giggling. Thanks everyone for sharing your stories.

I'm currently in Iraq and had my IUD removed due to uknown complications such as headaches, unusual crampin and extremly long periods (upwards of 14 days). My last menstral cycle took me for a whirl as it lasted for 22 days!! I decided to have it removed at which time my doctor (GYN) stated I would see very light bleeding. It's been 4 days and I have passed a lot much blood and blood clots it's scary. I've had children before and I would say it's equivalent to how much you pass after child birth. Don't think this is normal. Any sugguestions?

Okay so I had my iud removed monday and I had a little cramping that day. I've had the blot clots all week and my ovaries and area feel tender. My lower back hurts when I stand at work. Is this normal and is the tenderness from the doctor pulling it out? I will never use birth control again because it's just not worth it.

I had to have mine removed after two months - I had horrible cramping and felt "off" in mood, I felt like it should not have been in. Two months after I had it removed I ended up with pulmonary embolism - a blood clot in each lung! My doctor said it was supposed to be hormones released locally (in the uterus) but obviously not! I had already had a blood clot 5 yrs ago so I now feel that the doctor should never have recommended one. I had it put in for complex hyperplasia which is pre cancerous cells and the IUD's hormones are supposed to take it away - so much for that because now I am on blood thinners and have to wait to anything now.

A year ago I got the paraguard....within 4 months it feel out! Yes...feel out. After that I got the Marina. My body hasn't been the same since. I had no sexual desire, I had a foul smell and my periods would last 2 weeks at a time. So I had the IUD removed on Thursday. I had a little spotting that day but the next day my period was so heavy it was scary and I'm passing massive size blood clots. I feel alot better since the IUD was removed. I feel my sex drive is back to normal but I can't partake because my period won't go off! What the heck is going on! I'm getting my tubes tied.

I had the paraguard for 8 years and experienced several side effects which my doctor told me several times had nothing to do with the iud. Some of those include intense spells of itching, generally feeling unwell all the time, thinning hair, no sex drive at all, allergies to new things, frequent yeast infections, constant fatigue and headaches. Then I did some research and found that people can become copper toxic and as a result become oestrogen dominant which is what I think happened to me. My breasts swelled terribly for weeks and I thought I was pregnant but I wasn't. I guess that can be a sign of oestrogen dominance. I had it taken out two weeks ago and I'm pretty sure I'm detoxing as I have headaches and my skin is breaking out like a nasty hangover on PMS. But in every other way I feel sooo much better. My advice to anyone considering getting a copper IUD would be to make sure you are positive that you aren't allergic to copper first and make sure you check out your copper levels and hormones especially if you start getting funky symptoms. I don't know if doctors are covering something up or if they just don't know but don't just take their word for it. It's your body.

I have had similar symptoms after removing my IUD. I bled for a week. Stopped for a couple of days and now am bleeding heavier than before with huge, scary clots! I also have suffered from extreme fatigue and weight gain and wondering if it was due to my IUD. I had my hormones checked and my Estro and Testosterone were high and my progesterone was low. HOping all will even out now and I wlll lose 15 pounds and feel more energy. Did you lose weight after removal?
